I loved the way Tashi’s line at the start of the movie when talking about the boys next match against each other. “I just want to watch a good tennis match”, is continued throughout the entire movie, Art and Patrick are just playing her tennis match, they’re trying to win her and Tashi is just dragging them along to create her idea of the perfect tennis match. the way she describes tennis as a relationship between the two playing tennis, is also continued as we see Patrick and Arts relationship be destroyed by Tashis game

I agree Tashi wanted a good game but I don’t think they were fighting for her. Art wanted her but Patrick didn’t care. I think Patrick just wanted art sexually too and didn’t care about much else. He loves Art but kind of resents him bc Art is timid and weak. So he wants to rile him up . He knows he can use Tashi to do that and make art more like him and not a nice guy. But also it’s a lust thing because Art loves Tashi so Patrick reasons that if he can’t have art he’ll just take what art really wants . Like childish payback
@kikikramer666

Does that scene tells us that Zendaya's character realize Mike is more like a kid she has to lead in the career, the same way Josh always lead Mike?

Yeah that's one thing in the review I don't agree with: I don't think this movie is about being in love because I didn't get the feeling that any of the three characters were in love or even wanted to be in love. To me the message of the movie is more like you can argue that all three had victorious ending, got what they wanted, but is that really such a good thing?

@ericmorrow4040 listen man and again, not to sound like a dick, but clearly artistic films that are written with high-level literary elements and shot with an expanded creative vision just might not be your cup of tea...and yeah to each their own, but it's not really the films fault that you didn't connect the dots or didn't understand what the puzzle pieces it had laid out were trying to show you....but yeah I mean some people see a sunrise as the pinnacle of nature's beauty and others see it as a sleep killer and the start to a terrible work day.

If this had just been a typical Hollywood Rom-com, the fact that they are tennis players would have been completely incidental. @zach.avenarius
@zach.avenarius 17 дней назад
my interpretation of the movie: art is ego, pat is passion, tashi is discipline. The characters are placeholders for these qualities and how they interact, their relationships and careers reflect these qualities. pat was the better player of the two when they were younger showing passion is a strong source of motivation and progression to oneself but art always wanted to win, pat just loved to play. This leds them down different paths when tashi is introduced. Tashi is discipline(damn near obssession), art and pat saw her life and who she was and were envious, they wanted her and fought for her, passion won. Pat went on tour and that distanced him from tashi and art, his discipline and desire to win(ego), this led to their break up because she simply "didnt want to be with a tennis player that sucks" (her words not mine). When they broke up, coincidentally she had her career ending injury immediately after, when discipline loses passion it needs new purpose. Art comforts tashi as your ego should. tashi decides to become his coach, and he gets to become a successful well known tennis player, and she gets to live through his tennis career, Pat became a bum. Art begins losing and loses his will to play but is afraid of losing tashi if he retires. Ego is afraid of letting go of something that encompasses a very large part of itself. Art worked so hard to get to this point and is afraid of letting it go because its such a big part of who he is. Before Pat and Art's match, tashi and pat meet and do cool stuff. passion finds discipline again and his drive to win. The game is even, showing that passion and ego can be equal motivators to ones purpose. As the match reaches the end both players had submitted to each other, pat submitting to his desire to win and art overcoming his fear of loss in pursuit of enjoying the match. this final match they finally all 3 come together for a moment when they are aligned. Much like a player in any sport, a moment when your drive to win, your passion for the sport, and your training and hardwork are aligned is best described by tashis monologue. So it wasnt important who won only that we got to see them play and how each of them brought out what the other was missing. //feel free to tear this apart I just felt this had good continuity and these experiences are pretty relatable to most//

The cinematography is impressive, the dynamic editing and music make this film pulsate. He has beautiful composed shots but sometimes it feels that he and his cinematographer avoid perfectly framed medium shots as they want to keep some sort of naturalistic feeling. It shows in the editing as well. He is not afraid of having his scenes feel a big roughly cutted and roughly framed. Great movie! Great cast!

I can see why people have issues with this film. its really complex. it requires some digestion and maybe even a second watch. but I love films that are something real. something that can be understood without actual words. What I love most about Lucas films is how easy it is for him to film emotion. through all of the elements, you get EMOTION. i felt our characters anger, stress, and tension. I felt how much inadequate art felt. and i felt how much patrick wanted to be seen by someone. it was almost as if this love triangle was phyiscally binding the three together with a tight rubber band and you were actually watching it snap.

This formula worked for me. Was I into Tennis before the movie? Absolutely not. After? No, but I’d watch a match if it were playing. This was a breath of fresh air. I didn’t think it would be worth the watch in IMAX. I was proven wrong. I may never watch this movie again, but I will watch the final scene. There were corny parts for sure, but those can be forgiven. The jokes for the most part landed and didn’t tire out even it was reused. The payoff was incredible. It was incredible storytelling. I liked how Art’s injured wasn’t even mentioned as to how it happened. The focus was about the three main characters and what they had to do with each other. If it didn’t involve individuals it was both, three, or nothing. I liked how you saw the Zendaya’s first match career go through in the background noise. It was thought out and kept you entertained the whole time. The only thing I would change is use less slowmo. If it wasn’t for the direction of the film and all the other things it had going for it, it would have been unbearable. It is forgivable especially for those last few minutes of the film.

This movie was sooooo good omg. Me and my friend are now obsessed with it. Music was fire, characters were fun to root for because of how good everyone looks, the pov of the tennis ball was so good, we were never bored while watching this. I wish I could experience this in theaters for the first time again. New favorite movie for sure!

in my theater everyone laughed at the....j*rk off scene 😅 i think that's honestly the best way to describe it lol - but everyone was quiet for the tell me it doesn't matter. yeah - it's been a couple hours already and I can't stop thinking about it. it's really something special - for some reason it felt like an old movie and a new movie all at once - like classic but also fresh - i was asking myself "why aren't more movies like this"

7:38 the choppy frame rate in that scene is very obviously a dramatic choice reflecting/building the tension around Tashi/Pat's double betrayal. You may as well call the movie messy because it was stormy as hell in that one scene but sunny in all the others.
