Learned about proper reams through a lucky barrel purchase. It is a 95 Palma match ream for a .308. Had to call a reamer company to find out what I was even looking at. Long story short, I stumbled into a 1/2MOA barrel from a great gentleman who doesn't produce a high volume of barrels. For less than $200 I got a tack driver of a barrel, and learned an incredible amount about barrel reaming in the process.

Hi, mark another great vid buddy. Some sexy looking rounds on that bench mate. I love a 50 bmg round had loads of fun on the ranges in iraq and Afghanistan with the Barrett m82. Have you ever had the chance to shoot a ssk ind 950 fat mac? Crazy crazy rifle , I was fortunate enough to shoot one at a good friends of mines range in the states it’s a pretty pointless rifle which weighs the same as a small island but it made me laugh .

Hope everything is well Mark. Always enjoying the video. Did a test with the 225 Hornady ELD in 300WM yesterday and I’m disappointed lol. I should have listened to you. The new 220 long range hybrid has a touch higher bc than the 230 hybrid so I’ll probably get them a try. Hornady needed 50 more FPS and .2 mil more of elevation at 1260 yards to get the same impact.

That’s interesting. I’m currently getting a smith to do a 300wm. For Hornady 225eld match. It looks a good bullet and I’m hoping to get it to a mile occasionally: Mainly 1,000 yards though. He’s suggested bartlain no8 with a 9 twist. 26” I’m kinda guessing it up...as it’s my first winmag...and relying on him. Have you gone down this route and decided to recut it for Berger vlds ?

I have thought of a long range 338 Win Mag, great cartridge, but at 1200 yards compared to a 6.5 Creedmoor it has more drop, and only 10-20 more energy. It would be a little bit different, which sometimes is worth it.

Hi Sam and Mark, Very informative video as always, In regards to jump, and long range shooting etc, what would you lean to being to greater jump? I've had this discuss with many ppl, most don't get to shoot the distance you are. Ive got a 7rem mag sako. I hunt as well as long range so the mag length sets my length. I run 168gn vld bergers that have 140thouto 150thou jump. I shoot game, and at 2k target with this load. Not ideal interms I could run it longer but it works. Pros and cons in this from your perspective? Cheers
@markandsamafterwork
@markandsamafterwork 4 года назад
Jeremy, well no set rule, I run close if I can, away if it helps, at that jump I would expect accuracy to be compromised, but really all about your combo, only way to know is as ways to test, Cheers

My ex said it wouldn’t fit. I said just ream it damn it. She said it’s too hard now & she’d hold onto it forever & not really use it before doing that. Bigger isn’t always better she added. **** it! She loved that little 308. Magnums aren’t for everyone & not for every application.

What’s the best contour for ELR in your opinion? I’m looking for a customs barrel and stuck which contour to choose
@jeremys8360
@jeremys8360 4 года назад
Brandon Rastello not an elr shooter but I would imagine the heaviest barrel you can deal with. Heavier barrel heats up slower and vibrates less (this advice is coming from someone who isn’t an expert)
@tommyofthehillpeople
@tommyofthehillpeople 4 года назад
There is a lot to consider there for an answer. A heavier barrel will reduce vibration, felt recoil, and take longer to heat up(also slower to cool down). All of that aids in producing accuracy and consistency. So is heaviest best? It's possible but depends on your needs. If you compete or decide to compete, you might have weight restrictions. You can consider fluting(a small additional fee) to cut some weight while it adds surface area to help cooling.(a fluted barrel is just neato-mosquito regardless of benefit) Consider the round of choice and what you need. If you are shooting a 6 or 6.5, the "truck axle" might be a bit overkill and regrettable later as you lug that thing around. If you are into 300 rum or 338lm or larger, maybe look at the heavier barrels to help keep it under control as an addition to vibration dampening. My best advice would be to call the manufacturer of your choosing and discuss your needs with them. From what I hear, they tend to be more like suit tailors and less like used car salesmen.(no offense to any used car salesmen reading this. Just using the stereotype to make a point). I hope that helps. Subscribe and share! Haha
@markandsamafterwork
@markandsamafterwork 4 года назад
Well as usual, I do not make recommendations, yes I would generally say heavy is better than light, but beyond that there are many details, as said in the video, talk to your gunsmith or barrel supplier, club, etc, Cheers and all the best.

Hey Mark. Could really use your help. Looking to get out to a mile. I have my rig set up except for my scope. I am in between the B25 5-25x FFP Illum. H59, or the Leupold Mark 5HD 5-25x (unillum.) with either the H59,Tremor or a TMR. What would be your recommendation? I love everything about both. I am comfortable shooting with all 3 reticle options. Really just unsure which one to invest in. Thanks.
@markandsamafterwork
@markandsamafterwork 4 года назад
Hi, sorry I do not make recommendations, also I have never used the US optics scopes, so couldn't say anyway, I would look at all the features, compare with what you are needing, then check the reviews and forums to make that decision, but make it with your own logic, you have live with it, Cheers

If on mobile, Go up to the title of the video and click the icon on Mark and Sam Afterwork. That takes you to their main page with the full list of videos. Up top you will see a list of options from left to right like videos, playlists, about, and community. Go to the right where you see "about". Hi Cameron, thank you for your support recently, as for that sort of thing, we are open to doing projects like, but not in a place to do on our own budget, so if folks want help us on the budget for barrel, chambering, brass, dies, etc, we would be happy to build one of those and test on video, Cheers
@markandsamafterwork
@markandsamafterwork 4 года назад
Hi Cameron, if we set up a system that let people who are keen on seeing a particular chambering tested on the channel, express interest of helping, say $100usd ea, and we can get 10 pledges for that, then we would put in the rest and build and test that rifle, would you be interested in something like that, and do you feel other people might too?
@cameronschmidt3508
@cameronschmidt3508 4 года назад
That’s a nice idea. I have a thought to add. Would there be away to set up on your website build ideas that we could donate to? And would it be possible to have it set up to see the amount left to complete the build?
@markandsamafterwork
@markandsamafterwork 4 года назад
OK, yes I think we can come up with something there, probably could do it on a video where we could explain, and folks could make suggestions of chamberings/or other in the comments and then other people could let us know if interested in the comments. We then we could see if its a start and let know what the cost will be in the same comment section, then if everyone is happy we get donations for that project, and can give direct feed back via video and email per donation info. Sounds like a idea I think!
