A self-tapping hex head screw, with battery grease, and a nut driver works great for this application attaching a ground for to an existing old pipe that's not being used

Best of luck with the antenna. I have the chameleon emcom 2 and found great performance boost when used in a sloper only configuration. From 5 feet on a fence post to 40 feet on a spiderbeam pushup fiberglass pole. For a year i had it to low and it was more of an nvis antenna. Kd2knh

A great video of an install of this particular antenna, on a beautiful site, with great people. I enjoyed watching, too bad we are that far, a possible QSO while not impossible, would be hard to achieve from that part of the world. My warmest 73 to the 3 of you, have fun and good DX ! Chris HA7WX

Love the practical style of this video. And what a beautiful location! I hope this works out for her. You may need to have a shorter ground wire as it becomes a counterpoise once in near or surpasses the length of the band you are working on. Bring the Chameleon box lower to the ground to less than 5 feet.73 de N2LRB

Very nice setup , antenna work s great . Now she can work the world.may be you can make a regular segment couple of times a month where you help a fellow Ham or would be Ham get started in antenna setup etc just a idea 73🤔😀

Interesting but it would have helped my understanding to have a drawing of where this antenna went to and height at both ends and direction of the wire. Did you use a tuner in this situation?

I'll sketch a diagram and post it on my website next week. We did use a tuner as the SWR was between 1.5:1 and 3:1 depending on the band and frequency. Our initial thoughts in using the Heathkit was that since it has tube finals, it would be more forgiving. But we switched to the Icom and it doesn't have a built-in tuner, so an external tuner was necessary.

I checked the user manual and it doesn't specify. I know the Hybrid Mini and Hybrid Micro use a 5:1 balun. But I'm guessing that since this antenna uses a 130 foot radiator, it may be a 9:1.

I noticed in the background when you were sitting at the rig, there was a white rectangular column behind you...with a metal conduit I think for AC power connection. Hey Michael - it’s been 4 years since you made this video at St Anthony’s. I was wondering how Dr. Lori was doing with her Chameleon Emcomm 3 base antenna you helped install for her.

Unfortunately Dr. Lori left St. Anthony's in 2021 and is working in a different position at the local university. The antenna is currently in storage. We hope to get it on the air again when the opportunity presents itself.

You should be able to, you can work the US mainland on either the 20 or 40 meter band from Puerto Rico.

I wouldnt buy anything where they hide the inside components from view !! Gave no explanation of the counterpoise length or Instalation. Lots of jump cuts skipping parts and installments.

@@v4mp1el I am not saying anything negative! IF you search Amazon for this antenna it gives specifics about antenna length, counterpoise length etc with about 6 diagrams. I have worked HF on End Fed, Center Fed and Off Center Fed dipoles, with good success!! Kind of surprised that the diagrams for this Ant says... Ground Optional !! ??

You guys are sad. Put the antenna 30 to 35 ft above the ground. And have you ever looked at a plumbing code book ? I would not count on continuity to ground thru bell and spigot type cast iron pipe. Just saying. Oh and that is the ugliest install...
