Clinton Portis was a straight up baller in Denver. Back to back 1500 yard years his first two years, averaging 5.5 yards carry. There was a game where he had 218 rushing yards and 5 rushing TD's. The trade was extremely fair, and Denver was straight up desperate for an elite CB.
@Mr813Fla
@Mr813Fla 5 лет назад
The Offensive Line was a Beast and Running Scheme, Portis was good; the O Line and Scheme made him look elite. Champ is a Elite Corner on any team no matter scheme.

Every rb for the Broncos during that time period was very productive. It’s unfortunate we didn’t get to see more of TD. He was as talented as anyone.

He is my all time favorite NFL player, Im a broncos fan. And he is the most gifted athlete at the position ive seen, he led the team in tackles one year and kept the enemy scoreless at his position for 3 years straight. What more needs be said.

Both teams got great players, but Denver edged Washington with the 2nd round pick and Champ was better for longer. Not often though that both teams get productive players in the same trade.
@certifiedyaminspector-dadd6224
I agree 100%.... Especially in hindsight, but at the time, it was definitely a 'running league' & the value of a top tier RB was much higher than that of a top tier CB. It just so happened that about 5 years after the trade, the league started to transition to more 'pass heavy' offenses. It's funny how the league has done a complete 180 in such a short time period.
@HunkMine
@HunkMine 6 лет назад
Running backs were more important then, it was a fair trade
@certifiedyaminspector-dadd6224
As a Skins fan, I hated to see Champ go, but Clinton Portis and the Miami boys quickly became my favorite all-time Redskins players. What sucks so bad is they traded Champ to keep Lavar and then ended up botching his deal and ultimately replaced him with Warrick Holdman 😑. In the end, they lost a top 3 CB, a top 3 OLB & a 2nd rnd pick. Denver definitely won the trade but not because because of the players, more credit goes to the Redskins horrible management....
@geneticfreak2411
@geneticfreak2411 6 лет назад
They paid Lavar instead of Champ, safe to say not only do the Skins fans regret that trade but so does the organization.

What people are forgetting is that the Redskins were going to lose Champ Bailey and get nothing for him. He wanted out. That the Redskins at least managed to get one of the best running backs in the league in return was a coup for them.
@Mr813Fla

If they offered him a Elite corner deal, Champ would have signed. They didnt want to pay Champ, so they took a dummy deal and paid Lavar A.

Broncos won the trade but Clinton had a 1500 yard season, was about 10 yards short of another 1500 yard season, had a 1300 yard season and a 1200 yard season. And his pass protection was second to none in Washington. Dude balled his ass off. But champ is a first ballot hall of famer so the broncos won the trade.
