That's really unusual. I've talked to a ton of breeders and they all have had the same experience I did. All of the Argent breeds are known for being standoffish and lazy. 🤷 I'm glad to hear you've got some good ones and are enjoying them. 😊

@@SpragueRiverHomestead do you think there would be any value in cross breeding them with the american silver foxes? I have absolutely no experience with breeding of any kind i am just wondering if you can keep making the breeds more diverse as far as potential colors while keeping the good fur qualities by doing that.

@@andrewwashburn6080 no. There are certainly breeds that can be matched up. Champagnes and Silver Fox are very different breeds. They silver in different ways, the fur is completely different, the size and personality are different, and they have different head and ear shapes.

I'm not sure why that needed to be all capitalized, but okay. Generally rabbits eat them as they come out. Cecotropes are extremely sticky are not like the ordinary rabbit droppings. You will see some that the rabbits don't eat end up under the cages, but not many.

They are more difficult to breed in my opinion than other breeds I have owned. There seems to be a very small window to get them breeding (between 7-8 mo), and once they start you really can't let a doe sit open without kits for more than a month or two. The trouble seems to me that they get fat very easily, due in part to their overall laziness. The things that have worked best for me have been cutting their feed by half for a full month, going back to a full ration for 3 days and then swapping their cages for 24 hrs (her in his, him in hers), then put her back with him in her cage. Usually that jump starts them. I attempt to rebreed three days later, and if still nothing, three days after that. I hope that helps. They can be really aggravating to get breeding. @@SpragueRiverHomestead I know I am finding this late, but it might also help to add ACV in their water. I will use your tips as well. We are plagued with hot, humid weather where rabbits just don't want to get moving.

@@KKIcons ACV helps with a lot of things but doesn't really directly do much of anything when it comes to breeding and fertility. Low libido and poor conception in rabbits is typically low vitamin B or the rabbits being too fat. If obesity is the issue the ACV can help with flushing the system and getting the metabolism to function properly.

In WA, Annie Wilson is the only breeder I know of. She has beautiful Champagne D'Argents, and is a very kind and thoughtful woman. Her info is on a couple if rabbit breeder sites, so just Google her. Thanks for the kind words about our videos, and thanks for watching.

The reproductive lifespan of any creature is based on a ton of variables. A doe kept at the appropriate weight, bred for the first time at maturity, 3-4 litters per year and fed a well-balanced diet should be reproductively sound until age 5. Genetics do play a role in there as well of course.

Depends on the area, but they are far from being rare. As I've suggested to others, Google the Champagne D'Argent Rabbit Federation. If they don't have a breeder listing then email the club directly and ask who's in your area. Good luck!

We prefer the American overall. Their growth rate, temperament, mothering ability and hardiness make them perfect in our eyes. We find them to be big, sweet goofballs. They readily come to the front of the cage to see you and aren't as flighty as other breeds. The challenge can be finding stock, as they are a rare breed. Thanks for watching!

@@SpragueRiverHomestead Do you know where to find one? I am fine with a mixed breed but I don't know where to find them. Also, I have a new-to-me doe that is 3 yrs old, had been breed before but the previous owners sound like they were irresponsible and didnt put a nest box in and all of her litters was born on the wire and died. I had her bred on 4/22. Day 17 I noticed she had a pile of fur in the corner of her cage. I put the nestbox in just in case to allow myself time to ask what to do and if she may just be shedding. Later that day she had a pocket built in the box and the next day she has quite a bit of fur. I don't know if I should remove the box now or just clean it. If she kindles this early, I don't think they won't be viable. 28 days will be 5/20. Do you have any suggestions? She a pure NZ white.

@@terrim.602 some does are early nesters, so it's not out of the norm for one to be nesting two weeks ahead of time. If she does kindle early, it is entirely possible for 28 day kits to survive. I have two harlies that go 28 days quite often. Are you asking where to find a champagne or an American?

@@SpragueRiverHomestead from what you say, the Americans have more of the temperament I am looking for. I don't have a solid preference of meat rabbits. I have some very general ideas of what I would like to see- good mothers, solid and consistent litters, realistic grow out times at 4 1/2-5 1/2#, hardy and don't get sick all the time, and I really want them to have a good disposition. Oh, and must be wrapped in a tidy pretty bow, lol! (Nothing like asking for my cake and getting to eat it, too!)
