Hi Chris, great video. I would like to make a suggestion, It would be nice to hear the amps that you repair. Maybe use a looper pedal and have someone play some guitar licks on the looper then plug it in the amp and show the viewers how the amps sounds.... thank you
Totally agree here. There is a really excellent electronic channel (not going to name it because...well, read on) where the presenter is exceptional, technically and in the actual presentation, but he is not a guitarist. He makes no attempt to play. However (!) because he does not play, he has his neighbor (I presume here) come over to demonstrate the amps...and also, because the presenter does not play, he does not realize that his neighbor really can't play either! (I don't mean to be a snob...been playing over 50 years and have played professionally and taught for years...so I love it when a decent guitarist plugs in and puts a good tube amp through its paces.). Its a bit frustrating to hear one of us old guys play licks that are at about the level of a first year guitarist...not doing the amp justice...not doing the channel justice. But yeah, someone of a professional level to play these gems after they're finished. Cheers!
That asbestos mod...think I'll do that on my amps...do you know where I can get some asbestos? :-). Maybe do some deep breathing while I apply it...slower than the death cap, but same result. Ahhh, the world of valve amps...(here ACP* we call them "tube" amps...not very descriptive that, what?) :-))))))). *across the pond. Cheers
At 15:00 I see you twisting the volume and reverb wires. I've been advised to use a grounded RG174 cable center conductor for the input jacks and volume center connector (both going to the 12AX7 preamp tube grids)...thoughts? Thanks
Chris, just a thought: you’ve measured for the largest current production 6V6, but for those that might want to try NOS valves how about measuring those 6V6s in the Champs next to you?
Regarding the '67 VibroChamp from ATB, did they not ask you to also replace the original filter can caps? At nearly 60 years old they surely can't be relied upon.
What valves are you putting in the 57 Tweed builds? I hope mine will have TAD 6V6's. Not a fan of JJ valves at all. In fact a whole complement of TAD would be great!
Hi Chris, two questions, 1, re the asbestos, will ATB have to put any kind of warning on the amp for future customers and 2, does it matter how much you twist your cables to help the signal reject interference. Cheers, Jim.
Hi Chris, great video as usual, it's a really nice to start the sunday like this..;-) I was wondering (and I am not an electrical engineer and/or amp tech) with the reverb wires in the PR18/50, would the use of isolated wires make sense?...those tweeds with the G12 100 Celestions are amazing! I wonder, but I could imagine a 1x12 cab for the Dexter with these speakers would also be awesome...
Possibly, although there's no way of knowing a) which type of Asbestos this is (could be Chrysotile, Tremolite, or Actinolite) and b) whether the clear coat would cause an adverse reaction.
