Nice tiller, but you definitely need one for the Massey Ferguson 231! When you get one, be sure to get a 6 foot gear driven model. I had one for my 231, and recently sold it.
Thanks for this. Have one of these and wondered about a couple things. Mine is making a high pitched squealing and smells like rubber burning after running for a few minutes. Wonder if the belts are loose or worn
Thank you for checking the video. So far I haven't had any issue, but I would definitely check the belt. I don't think they are too high quality so depending on the hours you have put on the machine they may be about the fail.
The gear drive transmission calls for 0 or 00 grease. You can top it off with heavy weight gear oil, it will thin out the grease a little but not enough to hurt it. I would not remove the grease and run straight gear oil in it you will probably run into a lot of problems doing that.
I have a Earthquake Victory and it looks similar to yours. The transmission grease looks the exact same "cold" as your did. In my manual it calls for Mystic 00 grease in the transmission. What I find interesting is that the manual says to operate it for 30 minutes for the grease to warm up. Then let it sit 5 minutes to allow the grease to settle. Copied word-for-word from the manual: The front wheel transmission and rear tine transmission share a common reservoir. Recommended grease is Mystic 00, or equivalent, transmission grease. Oil must have an API - E.P (extreme pressure) rating of GL4 or lower. Higher E.P. rating ie -GL5, GL6 etc) will cause the bronze components to soften. For partial fill-ups (a few ozs or less) use SAE 140W or 85W gear oil or SAE 80W-90 weight gear oil with an API rating of GL4 or GL5. When replacing grease, the tiller transmission hold 18-22 ounces. Do NOT OVERFILL.
@@themichaelcreed Thank you very much for your comment, very good information. Somebody else also mentioned it is very important to leave the grease. I was totally mislead with the label only oil. So I ended up getting Mystic 00 in Tractor Supply and replenishing it. So definitely needs grease 00 + oil. Thank you also for sharing the amount of grease. I think I added more than that, still bellow the top but as I was running the tiller it seems pressure build up inside and grease was being pushed though the o-ring and out. So will drain and add the 18 oz you mention.
Hi, i know its not related to this video but i have a question regarding your "basque" axes.i was wondering how they were holding up? i remember that some people were saying there were some quality control issues few years ago, but im very tempted to get one, they look very aesthetically pleasing but also very practical.
Hi, they are holding up very well. I don't use them on a daily basis but they are great axes to have around. I really enjoy the 4 pounder the most. The little one it is great for small branches but I will definitely one day change the handle for a rounder and beefier one.
Looks like the tiller did a good job. Might be able to pour a little diesel fuel in the gear box to help break down that grease and flush it out. Hope you can one day get a tiller to go behind the 231. Enjoyed the video.
Diesel!! that's it... thank you for the comment. I will do that tomorrow I'm sure that will help flush it out much better. A tiller for the 231 is int he wish list, but first I need to get a box blade, maybe in a couple months. Thank you for checking the video.
DO NOT DO THIS!!!!!! That is 00 weight grease that is what it was designed to run that's why it is in there! You can top it off with gear oil if the level drops from the grease migrating to the rear after use. But you do not want to run straight gear oil in the transmission! #0 or #00 grease ONLY!
@@woodendoors1075 Thank you very much for your comment, I will get some 00 grease and will ad it back into the reservoir. it is confusing the fact that calls for gear oil but it is plenty full with grease.
