John Carlone, superintendent at Meadow Brook Golf Club, tells us what all goes into cup cutting and why it's so important at the championship at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.
Well tomorrow is Sunday at Shinnecock and they will be cutting the cups out of dirt, due to the USGA once again burning out 18 holes worth of greens at this famed course, guess they didn't learn anything from the last time the USGA was there.
JasJones123 I was there. I mowed greens 2 and 17 twice a day as a volunteer from the Sunday before the tournament to the morning of the final round. Never once did I think they had pushed them too far. The greens were amazing. J.J and his staff are first rate. They had the greens right where they wanted them
If you read my 1st post on the 2018 US Open the USGA certainly did have everything just the way they wanted it, so they could avoid defining the best player that week, their goal was to embarrass the best players in the world. The one who got it right was Zach Johnson, if a Masters champion says the greens have been lost I think I will be listening to him over a guy who only knows how to cut grass.
