you know, being someone who has been a fan of chance. it kinda feels like i grew up with him. I was 17 when Acid Rap came out and I was into Childish Gambino at the time, so I naturally heard the tape. and i gotta say... and i know its annoying when people say "i miss the old chance" or "he switched up", but Chance was so unique. not saying that he isnt still. But being a young adult myself, very lost in life. very sad. just got into drugs. very questionable about my existence and my place in this world, my relationship with God. Chances tape was very important to me and i know it was to alot of other kids my age. The weird and odd and like, awkward charisma Chance displayed had never been replicated like that. Maybe some similarities to Mac Millers vibe but still,. His voice cadence, his simple yet powerful lyrics, his raspy high-pitched delivery, his quirky image... it was such a breath of fresh air. His perspective on God and social problems and drug abuse and his place in this universe reasonated so differently than anyone ive ever heard. and as I've seen him grow and mature and find his path religiously and embrace god, it feels as if he is a sibling or close cousin with whom I've kind of grown up with and impacted my life so greatly but it is very clear he isnt the same and you know... maybe its for the better. Its his life and I am just thankful to be blessed with what he's done for me individually. All in all, Acid Rap will go down as a classic and probably one of the most introspective, unique, and impactful projects of my generation and if you havent heard it on acid, i can honestly say you are missing out ;)
