BDC Parfum is all about the Sandalwood. That's why the lettering on the bottle and box done in a Sandalwood color. The top notes are similar to the EDP but the dry-down is all about the Sandalwood. Niche quality juice!
I never could stand BDC EDT at all. I liked the EDP but never could pull the trigger. However once I smelled the parfum version I handed over the 💵 and didn't twice. I couldn't be happier!
IMO the EDP has quite a distinctive soapy note to it which I dont love. The parfum is much deeper, richer and complex so I'm happy to pay the extra. Plus everyone knows BDC is very popular, however 90% will still be using the EDT or EDP so this can give a slight edge
I enjoy the EDP the most but I can't deny that I really enjoy the parfum as it is creamier and smoother vs it's two predecessors. It definitely is more mature/sophisticated. Overall I'd say the EDP is now the overall better buy vs the EDT (post reformulation) and the parfum. I grabbed the parfum asap and don't regret it since I am collector and I love Chanel fragrances. Great review! At the end of the day we can say "Hey at least it's not another L'Homme!"
I really, really like it, exactly what I expected. The transitions are way smoother, And lasts hours longer then the EDP. If it was called 'Intense' or 'Noir' or 'Sport' or 'Platinum' , etc... I would expect something a little different, but I didn't even consider this to be a "flanker" Chanel is definitely due for something new, but I'm not sure why everyone seems to think that this was it...
Here are all great perfume experts ,,,, they think if they have 5.10 perfumes nisha are connoisseurs! This Chanel fragrance smells like one of nish quality
From my perspective, Bleu Parfum is designed to be the most intimate option of the three for the wearer. The fragrance isn’t to attract the attention of everyone but rather, the one with whom you have chosen to share your personal space. Smooth, sophisticated, warm and magnetic...
You summed it up perfectly. So many complain “it doesn’t project as well as the EDT/EDP”. Well, it’s not supposed to. It’s darker, smoother and more refined.
Hands down the best and most honest review of this one! You're the first non to jump on the hype train and say "best Blue de Chanel ever" "best release of 2018" "best scent out there" and bla bla bla... I agree this is a money making move and I think it could be a useless addition if you already own the edp and/or the edt. Especially at that price...
You made a great point; I agree that this release is a money grab. I don't mind flankers when they're good, but it is highly disappointing that Chanel has not released a new fragrance DNA for men since releasing BDC EDT in 2010. That's ridiculous. The EDP is what the EDT should have been (imo), and although I haven't smelled the Parfum yet, it seems totally redundant. I'll still get my nose on it though. Thanks for the review, Sebastian.
J Copeland agree!!! I wouldn't have anything to say if they were creating a complete line like they did with Allure, but these ones are just same scent-different concentrations!
The best fragrance trilogy in my opinion is Terre d'Hermes EDT, EDP & Eau tres Fraiche. Then the next is Dior Homme, Dior Homme Intense and Dior Homme Parfum. I do enjoy Bleu de Chanel EDT, EDP and Parfum but as a trilogy it just have the 3 out of 3 like the Dior and Hermes. Not many houses do trilogies it's usually flankers with the same bottle but totally different fragrances/scents. Hopefully you will do a fragrance trilogy review of your favourite trilogy
Love the scent for sure! Great opening! Can smell the sandal wood as a base note after 30 minutes. Sadly after 1 hour, I struggle smelling the scent & have to dig my nostrils into my skin. Though it’s a great scent it lacks performance & projection.
Tested it alongside the EDP. My first reaction to the Parfum was "this is lame..". I accidentally said it aloud which caught the attention of the saleswoman. Struck up a conversation with her and I told her why I said what I said and how I couldn't justify paying more for the something so similar as far as the top notes are concerned. So compared to the EDP, its boring. Your first BDC? By all means, the BDC DNA is amazing.
I think this is a fragrance to please the impatient Chanel fans. Based on their history they take approximately 10 years to release a new line of men fragrances. The gap between the Allure line and the Bleu line was also more than 10 years. The frequency of new releases from Dior is way better.
I am fine with it smelling the same as the previous versions. As the name says it’s BDC parfum. I only expect a stronger performance so I don’t understand why that would upset anyone.
I don't really have a problem with BDC Parfum, but I think people are upset mostly because it's been nearly a decade since there's a new perfume DNA (or a flanker that's significantly different smelling) for men by Chanel.
The EDT has never worked on my skin. Even the EDP goes really flat on my skin. Fortunately for my coworker. the EDP smells awesome on him. Fortunately for me, this new version, the PARFUM is the answer for my skin. Not only does it come alive on me but it projects and creates decent silage. I’m looking to buy a full bottle but 🤔 I’m starting to feel the same as you Sebastian, I really want something new from Chanel. I understand they use in-house perfumers but gosh lee - we’re starving out here. We need something now - like right now.
Maybe i'm in a minority ,but on my skin there is a big difference between EDT and EDP , so trying the parfum version is a must.SOTD Fahrenheit 32 by Christian Dior
Thanks for the update Sebastian. I have the EDT and I might go for the EDP after my bottle finishes. But it sounds like this new Parfum version will not cut it based on your review.
i have both the edp and parfum and they definitely doesn't smell the same to me.. the parfum is like a mature young older brother who is the ceo of a company while the edp is like a popular extrovert highschool younger brother who loves socialising.. both are great in their own ways but i prefer parfum more for a formal event
I sprayed this on my hand and thought it was ok. Then I sprayed my chest and the heat totally changed the fragrance the citrus cane out in actually really happy with this juice. I will need to give it a few more days to see how I really feel.
Excellent review Sebastian. I have to concur that I think this is repetitive and we need something new. I went to smell this today at Bloomingdales and won't be buying it as it just isn't anything groundbreaking. Nice scent, but the EDP is all I need. Thank you for the great review.
I am loving this one over the EDT which I have just a tad left so I needed a new bottle anyways. This lasts longer too and is creamy. I skipped the EDP. This is Oliver's first time in charge and he did this one but he will probably create the next new fragrance. Their best since Egoiste.
MY GUY SEBASTIAN!! You and I were literally in the exact same boat. My commentary on my channel may have been a bit more abrasive lol, but it was the same message. Glad I’m not alone friend lol!!
Sebastian called it with flankers. Instead of extraits it's elixirs 😆. As an overall blue fragrance, all designers, I like this parfum best❤. Next will be elixir lol
The parfum version projects less and has less longevity than the EDP. Plus, I got more compliments with the EDP, which is less expensive btw. I will keep going with the EDP :)
Great review, you're right with what you say. I have all three of them and your review is spot-on. I'd love to have a very aggressive version of Bleu de Chanel, with far more projection and longevity. I was hoping the perfume could be just that, but it isn't.
Too bad Chanel didn't take a lesson from Dior with their Homme Parfum release! It's time for Polge and Chanel to pick up their game and give us something new after 8 years of waiting. Thanks for the review.
I think they'll ride it out for 2 more years and perhaps they'll release something new then. Unless they plan on making another flanker to BDC. We will see.
Dior and Chanel are different taste,,,dior go with SWEEEET fragrance and Chanel most with fresh!!! A sweet fragrance stay longer on skin insted fresh one
I totally agree that we need something new from Chanel, but I’m surprised that you found it to be so similar to the EDP. I experience it as being so much darker and woodier than that, with a very different feel and wear. All 3 have their place for me. It’s hard to choose one... so I won’t try!
Thank you for the great review! I couldn’t find how to describe my mixed opinion about the release but one person in the comments first found the right words. “Just the bottle is gorgeous” (c). I am a little bit disappointed of my purchase this 3rd edition by wearing it for about 2 months and i was trying to convince myself that it was excellent. But I’ve given up. It’s just ok. Unfortunately it’s sad but true. Somehow it reminds me the movie “Back to the Future “. The first was so exciting, “Back to the Future-2” was well but just ok. And so on by analogy. Have a nice day)
Having not ever smelled the edt or the edp, I would love to get a sample of this parfum version. It sounds like something my boyfriend would love. Plus, it even sounds like something I could wear. Thanks for another great and honest review.
Thank you Sir! I was thinking to just order it off the Chanel website but you just saved me over $150.00 cuz I have both the edt and edp. I'm with you, they need to release something new for the men's side. Excellent video! When I run low I will just stay with the edp and reup it.
Thank you so for another solid review . I think Channel needs to come up with something new. If you are to make a flanker make it have more bang for your buck . The most solid in my opinion flanker was Layton Exclusif .
I writing this in future. It’s now 2022 and just last year Dior released a bold elixir version of their blue fragrance that presented a dramatic turn. I’m watching this and curious if Chanel will follow this trend and release a bold and engaging reimagining of Bleu.
I was able to sample this today, I do like it better than the EDP, but there is no need to rush out and purchase this one I’ll wait till the EDP bottle runs out.
I disagree completely on flankers. It allows for variation and modernization. For example, Bleu de Chanel EDT doesn't smell very good to me, but has promise. On the other hand EDP takes that promise and fulfills it.
Great review Sebastian. Enough informations here to avoid to buy it, but i’m still curious to try, we never know might want to have it even if I already have the eau de toilette and edp versions. And yes something new would be amazing!!!
I agree. I’m probably about the same age as you. Back in the 80s when I used to buy lots fragrances, you had the main release and then a year or two later, you got the ‘Sport’ version and then that was it.
Thanks for reviewing. Enjoyed it Would of been nice if they did at least 1 thing different to make it special. I love Bleu de Chanel though but don’t own a bottle yet. I would go with EDP. ✌🏻
your right Sebastian, im also tired of this flankers, we need new, something unique and interesting rather than putting this on a market, i prefer edt Sebastian, awesome review Sebastian love it
Chanel are always playing it safe. I will not be getting this and just stick with the EDP. Dior are so much more daring than Chanel the Dior Homme, Dior Homme EDP and the Dior Homme Parfum is how you make a trilogy of great fragrance each different than the other but improved. Chanel should take a leaf out of Dior every time they have made a Parfum it's distinct I.e Eau Savauge Parfum 2012 or Fahrenheit le parfum
I wouldn’t mind seeing a Chanel version of Baccarat. Is it original no but I’d still buy their twist on that fragrance...I also would like a Parfum of the Egoiste fragrances.
Enjoyed the review. I've only sampling the Eau de Parfum a handful of times and, to be honest, I find the EDT to be the better all-around option...and less expensive too. Since I'm down to under 10ml of my EDT, I now need to answer whether I should get the EDT, EDP or, now, Parfum. Anyway, the Parfum sounds interesting (and I will have to sample it) but I almost positive that I'll re-purchase the EDT because it's a people-pleaser (similar to the EDP and, I assume, Parfum) and I enjoy that it's a big louder and gets noticed. Of course, if someone wants to gift me a bottle.... :) Cheers, Seb! Oh, I see the Parfum is not listed on Fragrantica....that didn't take long.
So what I’m hearing is the new Chanel doesn’t hold a candle to Dior Homme Parfum which is in believably good and differentiates itself from both the EDT and EDP.
Great review as always & In my opinion, it's pretty much the same as the EDP albeit a little more refined & polished I dare say... I already own the EDP, along with the original EDT which I got back in 2010/11. I have to agree with you that the line is becoming repetitive with its releases & will soon be on par with the DIOR Homme line of fragrances which isn't a bad thing per se but like you, I would like to see something new & exciting from CHANEL' men's line of fragrances. I do love this fragrance DNA as a go-to everyday frag when you just want something to throw on in those quick, rushed moments; can be worn at any time no matter the occasion so with that said is a great versatile frag, but If you're already the owner of the EDT or EDP I would say wait till your bottle is finished before making a purchase for this as I see buying this along with having any of the others as a waste of time/money, unless you are a reviewer, collector or simply have the money to burn? Also if you like the in your face sharpness of the EDT you won't get that with this at all, it's subtle & much more refined, one could say that the sharp notes in the EDT have been greatly smoothed out & polished for a more subdued & rounded off finish.
I have the EDT, and I love the scent, but the performance is definitely lacking. I might have to get an EDP soon. That’s unfortunate this isn’t beast. I thought for sure it would be. I have to try it, but it doesn’t sound like I would need to buy one
@@ThePerfumeGuy please keep up the good work Sebastian. I know it's not possible now, but are there any guest star videos planned? I really like Dana, Dalya and Ashley.
I would like to see a new original men’s fragrance from Chanel. If you discount all the flankers and versions there are after all only 5 fragrances specifically marketed towards men to choose from. Bleu, Antaeus, Pour Monsieur, Allure and Egoiste. I am hoping for at least one gem in the new ‘non gender’ Eaus they are meant to be releasing in June.
I'm sooooo disappointed... BDC was the first fragrance I bought from Chanel. I was hoping for something great but I guess its the same strategy as Apple, keep releasing the same stuff, just slimmer, lighter, etc.
Very thorough! There is one solution to the flanker fad - people need to stop buying them! I know, easier said than done. lol But in this case, money may speak louder than words.
Absolutely. Versace Man is a great example. The Eau Fraiche flanker has literally nothing to do with the original, yet both are excellent designer scents IMO. Ditto with some of the Luna Rossa frags. Although....2 flankers is where I draw the line I think. lol
I have been using Bleu de Chanel for years but I am curious about the refined one. Does anyone know if it smells better than the original one? Or does it smell like the original one just more intense?
Not worth the money. I was very disappointed in the longevity and sillage. Smells nice, but nobody else is going to smell it unless they stick their nose on your skin within 5 hours of spraying it.
CHANEL's pricing on the so called 'parfum'(as in high concentration) is just perplexing. 100 milliliter of Bleu de CHANEL "parfum" costs $150 while the other parfums from CHANEL such as No.5, No.19, and Coco Noir cost up to $200 for a tiny 15ml. Why?
Because this likely isn't actually a real parfum. I'm assuming they wanted to make a deeper and more mature version of the EDP, but they couldn't call it Intense because it's actually less intense. Maybe they should have called this Noir
