Me too! Nothing alienates a customer more than taking a beloved product and putting out an inferior version of it. I just don't understand. Even drugstore companies do this! Looking at you, Milani! I am still not over Milani ditching their lovely 12 pan formula that was perfection and was better than high end or any drugstore products.

I think it's because it's almost always due to cost cutting. Sometimes it might be because of a shortage of an ingredient or a switch to vegan recipe like with Bite Lip Mask.

@@ChrissieSM YES!!!! Same with Givency Linterdit! When they released it again, I was so excited! It smells NOTHING like the original which was a huge letdown and I still HAD a tiny amount of the original that I had kept for sentimental reasons so my grown up nose smelled both!

Reformulation or recipe overhauls are never good though brands lived off the reputation from their OG product for years. I'm glad Social Media drags them now when they try to sell us sth for better while it's clearly not. It's always cost cutting while profit maximizing.

The new Brun arrived this morning & I like it. I was afraid it would be too dark for my pale, pale skin, but it does go on light enough to build. But I’m beyond happy that I repurchased Alezane, Jersey & In Love last year when I got a backup of Beige Tweed after hitting pan. Have to agree - I’m not crazy about the orangey-yellow undertones of the new compared to the rich blends of the old.

I prefer a more pigmented blush because of my skin tone. If I have to build and build, it can show my texture in my cheeks. That probably isn’t an issue for some people.

I have the "old" jersey and it's such a nice, natural-looking blush for when I'm only wearing minimal or "office" makeup and want to have just a little something on the cheeks. I love it.

Why not release a *second* line of blushes in the new formula instead of messing up near perfection? Chanel releases new lines of pretty much everything as it is, so a new line of blushes wouldn't be off character.

160.000 🎉🎉🎉Thank you so much for swatching the new chanel blushes. I do not understand WHY they did it. I will buy some of the older version as a backup . I am so disappointed about the new Dior Lipliner. They have them for ages and I use 593, Brun figure, at minimum 15 years. Now I bought the new Lipliner in No. 100 , nude, and I‘ m not ok with the new formula. Less pigmented and on my lips it does not last. So sorry.I bought also backups for this liner, it‘ s one of the shades that I always use mit a nude lipstick. They should ask their customers before reformulating winners!

I agree! I think cosmetics companies need to come out with a way of reaching out to their customers (if the customers agree to it) and get a feel for what they think before they start changing colors on beloved products and reformulating. That would also help the company too because I am sure they are going to lose money if the majority of their customers aren't fans of the new formula.

I bought 4 Chanel blushes before the reformulation, I would have picked up more had I known. Love “original” Chanel blushes. The pigmentation of these is perfect, quick and easy, blend themselves.

This was so helpful . I’ve been thinking about replacing my super old shades for new ones. Knowing now that the formula has changed and isn’t as good...I will repurchase the shades I can in the old formula . Those shades are 64 Pink Explosion and 99 Rose Petale . The third shade I have they no longer make. It was shade 15 Orchid Rose which was the perfect shade to wear with any makeup look bold or natural.

Hi dear Michele, actually all colours look amazing on you!!!!!!!!!!👍🤩🤩🤩🤩 But i know how much you love blush, i don't, i always HAVE blush😂 (to) much red undertones in my face. I only can handle the lightest blush shades, or i don't use it. But it's true about Chanel, collection finished is collection finished, i don't know why companies do that!!!🙃 I love their eyequad from Christmas 2019 (Les Ornements de Chanel) so much, but i know, when it drops on the floor, it's finished. THANK YOU for this PSA, I almost fainted, Joues Contraste has been a luxurious staple!!! I have some in my stash that are over 10 years old and they're still glorious with the rose scent...just hauled Pink Explosion, Rose Initiale, and Malice in the old formula from Bloomingdales. Looks like online retailers have the new shades with the old shades in the new formula in a separate tab vs. the old shades and old formula.

I liked the colors of the old formula much better than the new one, especially for my cool complexion. I don’t currently own any Chanel blushes, but I was considering picking up the Alazane. I definitely want the original formulation! And I agree with you on the difference in texture. The old version is much smoother than the new one!

Just typical why do Beauty brands do this? Every time a product is reformulated or colour changed it is never for the better and they’ve been doing it for years. I’ve lost count of the number of foundations, eyeliner pencils, blushes, perfumes etc that I’ve loved, only for them to be replaced by something inferior or discontinued altogether! So frustrating!🥰💜

It’s like a long bait and switch. Humf! Why degrade a good thing and your brand name. Because when you degrade your product you degrade your brand name too. I just don’t understand it. It makes me feel that they’re trying to use lower grade ingredients and production to get the same price for lesser cost output. They forget that their customers are smart and KNOW the difference. It’s such a shame. I hate when companies do this. When Under Armour came out with their first athletic shoes they were PERFECTION in every way ~ design, fit, impact cushioning, stability, streamlining, construction, etc. Then in less than two years when I went back to get another the joy was lost as the construction of their crosstrainers where no longer superior. I was SO disappointed as they prided themselves on giving their customers a superior product. It was truly like a bait and switch or they decided they no longer liked their profit margins and decided to “sneakily” ~ no pun intended lol! ~ downgrade the product to get more profit. Whatever the motivation it was truly disappointing. 😫

And we've been sucking it up due to good marketing. Brands lived off good reputation up until 50 yrs. Glad that's Social Media is now around and finally we can expose them to less informed costumers though it seems boomer age executives haven't catched that we don't accept getting lied to because of their profit margin anymore.

Thanks for going ahead and buying the same shades to compare with the "old" formula. I put that in quote because I loved the 90s powder formula and still have a couple of those compacts. When I started buying makeup again a couple years ago, I wondered why the blushes look so funny like plastic in the pan. The only baked one I own is the new spring duo, and the pan of the blush side is already seized up. I can’t say I’m sorry to see the baked formula gone except it’s a shame for those who like it. But as you said the blushes take a long time to use up.

Great comparison video. Clearly different colors to me and they all looked orange to me except the pink one. I ordered 4 of the old that were in my basket for months so should be ok for a long time. Wanted to know what you think of the new Melt blushes?

@@mumu87 I can tell because they have Chanel blushes listed twice on the site and I am familiar with the shades of the blushes in the old formula so that I can tell the difference. For instance, my favorite blush, Pink Explosion, is a lighter shimmery pink in the old formula, while it's a deeper, more matte redder blush in the new formula.

Not only is the older formula for alezane smoother and more pigmented, but I noticed that the blush has a dome shape (old) vs. a flat surface (new).

@@ultraviolettas Yes, judging from Michele's video. I purchased mine 2 years ago and has that dome shape. Today, it still maintains that shape as a little goes a long way with Chanel blushes.

This is why I stopped buying Chanel. They kept discontinuing all of my favorites. The reformulation of the bronzer was the final blow for me 😢

The reformulation of the bronzer was the ultimate let down. I think they reformulated the loose powder as well, but not sure if they did with the les beiges pressed ones. I have an old les beiges powder in a deeper tone as I use it as a bronzer, and haven't bought a new one yet to compare.

@@tineegonzales7365 now that you mentioned it, my powder didn’t feel as nice or last like how I last remembered. The new bronzer formula broke me out and didn’t last. That was my final return and never again. I now use Tarte, Kosas and Tower 28. I’m coincidentally also moving towards clean makeup brands/options. I notice in general, products tend to be changed and companies don’t always say. It’s so frustrating because it feels like they insult our intelligence like we won’t notice anything different.

@@punkypudgy480 Sorry to hear about that. The most likely suspect for you breaking out is the coconut oil in the new formula. Not a really good idea to be putting that in any make up or skin care product.

@@tineegonzales7365 I agree! I've had an allergic reaction before to other coconut oil based products. Just not the fruit itself. I feel the Chanel move was to join the trend and bring new customers versus working on retaining customers. I'm not sure if I am explaining myself correctly. That reformulation alone was what broke the camel's back for me (sorry for repeating myself) and decided to try new brands all together. The same happened with Huda Beauty, Too Faced, Marc Jacobs, Dior and Glossier. The list keeps going on. All either changed packaging for the worst, discontinued or totally reformulated products/formula.

I tried getting a Chanel powder blush before but they all turned so warm on me and the shades I liked were too sparkling. Hearing that the new ones are more matte sounded promising, but the colours actually got even more orange. I'll just keep hoarding backups of my Chanel cream stick blush (N°23), thank you :P Thanks for the cheek swatches it is the only way to tell true pigmentation!

I just received a new formulation. I am weird in that I love scented makeup or skin care. It is a big part of the sensory experience for me. The scent of Chanel blush was iconic to me. I have used it since the eighties. And now the scent has a barely there rose/chalky scent. Additionally , while I enjoy many different brands of blush, Chanel was the best in my opinion. While it is not horrible, it is definitely a step down. I am sad.

Hi Michele, thanks for the demo and comparison swatches. The new Alezane and Jersey look more golden than the prior formulation, which would not be flattering on me. The new Brun Rouge is a gorgeous shade. I wish brands would be more forthcoming when changing the formula of a beloved product.

I got rose urban 602 and burn rouge 604. Love both! I have fair skin and do not like to be super careful with application. 604 is also great as bronzer, so I am actually happy with my purchase. I don’t feel the new formula is horrible in comparison to the old one. It’s always about the right color , I think

When I got on Nordstrom the new formula actually says new! The older formula is just normal.

As much as I want to run and grab any old Chanel blushes, I can’t. I already have quite a few blushes from them, and I don’t want to buy just for the sake of buying. I am happy with the ones I have because they are sooooo beautiful. I have (in the old formula) Foschia Rosa, Rouge Profond, Rose Bronze, Golden Sun, Rose Petillant (my fave), Quintessance, Tweed Evanescent, and So Close.

Are the new version slightly less dome shaped? I can't tell if it's the angle or they actually look flatter in the pan. When did the new formula come out? I bought Malice about a month ago. Is that probably the old formula? I threw out the box, so I don't know what the ingredients are.

Oh no. But to change such a cult product?? These were iconic, loved by the world, what kind of decision is that?.. That baked formula actually exists since the late 70-s or early 80-s (I watched a broadcast with one of Chanel experts and she said that) My favorite Chanel blushes however are the tweed blushes. If they ever decide to mess with those, I’d have to get a life time supply.

I am old enough to remember the formula change to the baked formula in about 1979-80. THAT was a reformulation that was exciting and actually for the better!!!! It ALMOST looks like they reverted to that old old formula 😢. WHY CHANEL?!?!?! They have broken my heart (I am looking at my empty Soliel de Tan!!!)!!!

I found a Chanel blush shade I think you might love only still available at Harrods. It is 15 Orchid Rose. And Reflex is nice too. Original formula for both. Orchid Rose, when swatched on white tissue looks like a shimmery version of the in pan new Rose Bronze. But what I love is it’s similarity to Golden Sun! Golden Sun has been a staple of mine since it first came out in the 90s or before. . It was discontinued then came back a couple of times, then recently discontinued. : (. It is slightly lighter and a hint less brown but still very neutral. On my cheek ( light-medium olive skin) it is a hint warmer than in pan which makes it appear very similar to Golden Sun. Grab it before it disappears! Also Reflex is a beautiful glowy shimmer brighter ( for Chanel) peach.

I could tell from the web site that the colors had changed. I got Brun Rouge and it, like several of the new colors, looks orangy on me. I'm still waiting on Alezane but after seeing your swatches, I think I need to get the original.

Michele, I wonder if your old Chanel blushes are US version or European/ Asian baked version. I got elegance #370 at my local counter and it’s baked. I ordered the old jersey and alezane from Nordstrom and I noticed they are not baked? They look to be of pressed powder.

The brun rouge colour looked really flattering on you! It really grinds my gears when brands reformulate but keep the same names and just pretend like it's the shade you always knew and loved. Surely you could come up with new names if you won't recreate the OG shade (maybe due to materials not being available anymore from suppliers? Who knows though, it's not like they're ultra expensive multichrome pigments)

I have 5 Chanel blushes, 4 of them powder formulas. I do have Jersey and Malice, and completely agree about the new Malice looking like an improvement on the old one -- and as much as I enjoy the old one, that's saying something. The Brun Rouge looks wonderful on you; not too dark at all. My question is this: How do we know when we order whether we are getting the new or old version? Is there some way to differentiate?

I have a VERY old Chantal blush which I love. The pigment is perfect, the texture is perfect and I feel that it must be self regenerating! It never appears to wear down in the case. The mound has the same slope... I'm going to be buried with it rather than go with one of the new formulations. PS I've used with many different brushes and always perfect results.

Well for me Chanel is batting Zero for 3 in reformulations. I don't like any of them - loose powder, Soleil tan de Chanel and now the blush. Disappointed! These are definitely a pass for me. I don't see why companies redo formulations when nothing is wrong with the previous. It is irritating! Thank you for all the comparisons.

This explains so much! I got rose initiale a month ago (I’m in Europe) and I was so disappointed with it.Takes so much time to build up and even then it’s just flat like Michele says. You can’t return make-up here so I guess I will toss it 💔 I don’t mind holding on to good make-up even if I don’t use it often, but I don’t even want this in my collection

Sorry that this happens Michele. I don’t understand it either. Unfortunately marketing and reaching new consumers and competitors makes brands under pressure to move forward. Sometimes good and sometimes not. I think the older is definitely a more beautiful formula. Glad u found some that you did like though.
