I have a Coach bag that I bought when I was 18 years old. I still carry it to this day. (I'm 66). It has had no issues whatsoever. I would never buy a Chanel bag with all the quality issues people are experiencing. I feel bad that you are dealing with this, considering how much you spent. Should not have happened. I feel that the quality in many luxury brands is slipping due to the greed of the higher-ups in these companies. It's like they don't care that the customer gets they quality they're paying for. Honestly, Chanel’s quality has been getting bad around 2010, and it really started going down the toilet when Lagerfeld died. It’s an insult to charge such an outrageous price for something that has similar quality as a fast fashion bag. If someone really wants a Chanel, it’s best to shop the vintage market. The quality on the older Chanel bags are amazing. They were made to last a lifetime.

That’s why I bought a preloved Chanel Jumbo and classic from 2008 PURPOSELY. 24K gold - never has rubbed off- quilting is still soft, smooth like butter and puffy. Chains are heavy and I would never purchase a brand new one from the boutique. I’m sorry you are experiencing this especially with a bag that costs so much money. We need to stop buying these bags - that’s the only way Chanel will improve their quality!!! Wish you luck - please update us!

It's just outrageous ! Don't apologize. It's ok to be so disappointed. The same applies with Balenciaga and other luxury brands. Quality is not what it used to be any longer.

I really wanted a Chanel bag before. But after realizing high price does not equal high quality, I decided to get the Strathberry East West mini in black/gold. It really cured my itch for the Chanel bag and actually I think the Strathberry bag looks classier!

It's ridiculous to buy something brand new and send it off for repair on that same day you purchase it! Chanel and that Chanel SA should be ashamed of her/himself!

I've had my Chanel bag repaired three times with my own money...bought it new and have had it for 5 years...even the clasp had to be tightened...each repair has been around $400...would not buy another...the quality does not warrant the pricing. Thank you for sharing!!

Chanel is THE main brand I think of when it comes to the topic of decreasing quality, I have friends who still use the bags their mother bought decades ago and still amazing quality, holds up well, worth the price paid. looking around Chanel now with the modern version of the same bag, it's like "Chanel you know you're supposed to be a luxury brand? what happened? [greed]" the prices don't reflect what is expected.

I would love a follow up video about what the quality control person says! Anything you spend that much money on is a big deal and being upset that it isn't holding up is totally understandable, I would be too.

That doesn’t only happens with Chanel. It’s happening with all “luxury” brands. They simply just don’t care at all. They know that they will sell everything so they just keep increasing their prices and lowering their quality to have a bigger profit, and people will continue buying because basically most of the new customers want to show off what their buying, or simply buy to resell (same thing with watches). These type of brands are not what they used to be. They are no longer exclusive, they no longer offer quality or a good buying experience. Before they use to give a high quality service, now you have to wait outside as you were going to buy potatoes at a marketplace. And finally, don’t worry about saying that you are not materialistic, even you were. You are saying something fair.

This happened to mine (bought in 2011) recently and I took it to Chanel and they fixed it for me free of charge. I also had to get the CC hardware changed as the silver underneath was showing. This cost 60. Sad to say I’m not going to buy anymore bags from the boutique due to the price increases and decline in quality: Get it vintage, much better quality and better value for money.

I have found that any purse, regardless of brand (or lack there-of) made from stiff material and has narrow compartments like you have shown, will crack or de-thread where it bends or folds. I remember when I went to Caesars Palace in Las Vegas about 15 years ago seeing those Channel bags for $1,300. I thought they were steep then, and the quality felt 10 times nicer than they do now. They had an incredible weight distribution to them that doesn't exist now.

You are not alone in this. There are stories all over youtube concerning the drop in quality.

Such price for JUST a bag is ridiculous. Even if you have a lot of money why pay so much? If you are rich and everybody in your social circle have Chanel bag it doesn’t make you stand out or whatever. It’s just like being a student and have Zara bag.

Agreed. Quality doesn’t live up to its price. Just hype and branding. I’m quite disappointed as a long Chanel brand purchaser. Their prices have gone insanely and ridiculously high. Its really discouraging, buyers like you and I would probably invest in other quality brandnames like Mark Cross, Delvaux, Dior, etc. Reasonable price point and good workmanship and product design. Agreed 100%. The vintage Chanel bags are worth it but the new ones are so not they are literally no different to high grade fake which you can buy for about $200-$300. Totally not an investment but a great waste of money feeding the ‘monster’ investors in these luxury brands

That’s why I sold all my authentic designers and started buying super fakes and guess what? The quality of these super fakes has exceeded all my expectations. My days with designers are over. Between the disgusting Balenciaga scandal and the Chanel price increase for Quality dicrease I am all set.

I had serious quality issue my medium classic flap cavier with gold hardwear bought straight from Chanel boutique. One month after the purchase, the gold color from the front knob had come off in part and I could clearly see the silver color underneath. I took it back to the store and they acknowleged it was a problem and offered a full refund or exchange even after the 30- days return period had passed.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I have my mini flap that I used to death and have not experienced anything like this. Also, my jumbo flap bought in 2015 and never had any issues. I hate that newer bag’s quality is so bad.

I know that Channel has always been the most exclusive, at the very top but I’m so happy I didn’t give in. Thank you for sharing. I’ve had genuine leather boots that I’ve walked around in snow and rain that have never given out and I’ve had them for 20 years for less than 200. I can’t ever imagine a channel bag could ever really be considered an “investment”.

I totally understand where you’re coming from. I’m also thinking to invest in a designer bag, like you I would rather one statement piece in my collection that I can style differently but I’ve realised that as you said, as the years progress, the quality worsens, it’s definitely not the same quality as it was years ago and it’s annoying that there are literally fakes and replicas that match the quality of the real. I’m thinking to buy vintage as the quality is better, you can always get it repaired and I feel like there’s more story behind vintages, you can find a special piece that not everyone has. Ugh so sorry to hear that! I just bought a WOC and wore it once to Target. The back Mona Lisa pocket popped a stitch in the same place Kiki’s did. I had to pay for insurance + s&h bc I live over 3 hours away from my closest Chanel and couldn’t drive in. They still have my money and my WOC that I bought for my bday and I would suspect they prolly sold it to me damaged and I didn’t catch it in the store.

Thank for sharing! I purchased a boy bag in Chicago and had to take it back the next day. There were several defects including hardware disproportioned and a pop stitched. I did not notice it until I went home in a very well lit area in the house to view the bag. The SA who sold it to me said the bag was pristine. Took it back the next day and showed them the pictures/the bag. Return went very well. Repurchased in TX taxes much cheaper.

I feel your disappointment and emotional pain with the brand. I bought my jumbo preowned. It’s from year 2015. I watched your video and rushed to inspect mine. Luckily, I haven’t had any issues, but this gives me a distrust feeling about my bag. Do I have to start babying it? I’m glad you disclose your issues publicly. I truly understand your frustration, especially considering the significant cost of these bags. It's disheartening to see this happening. I have a the same bag, which I purchased six years ago, and it's still in pristine condition with no issues. My suggestion would be to return to the store and request a replacement rather than a repair, as trying to fix it might lead to bigger problems down the road.

Hi Blessy after having aprrox 80 Chanel bags in my very long life, I can say the side stitch coming lose is nothing to worry about. It happens all the time. You can go and have it fixed while you wait at Luxury Bag Repairs 19 North End Road Fulham, it cost s£50 and he has fixed this exact problem for me many times. Or there is Chanel Care and Repair on the 5th floor of Harrods, they are so lovely and helpful there. It will be a quick & free repair. Once it is back you will be in love with Chanel again. The course of true love never runs smooth, as they say. Harrods Chanel Care and Repair have changed the locks on approx 7 of my bags and hardware etc some of these bags are over 25 years old. They look after their customers!

I'm sorry for your experience. With all the horrible quality issues Chanel is having, I refuse to pay $10k for their bags. I'd rather spend it on an Hermes at this point.

I own a Chanel WOC and the leather 'ripped' off and this has never happened to my other 'luxury' bags and I do take care of my bags relatively well. I took the bag back to Chanel store hoping they will repair the bag and the whole process took them 6 months to sort. During the 6 months, no one contacted me and I had to pay the store a visit x3 (not happy especially when you're paying a premium price, you would expect customer service) ! Honestly, for the poor customer service and poor made quality bags, I would much rather spend it on other brands with better craftsmanship and good customer service.

It's senseless to me to pay that much for ANY designer bag it's just a status symbol and promoting the designer when you carry it. They laugh all the way to the bank. I stand alone. I don't need a designer bag to carry to get attention. And now your 8000EU bag is falling apart. Is it worth it?

The same thing happened to my seasonal flap bag from Chanel. I got it repaired for free under the warranty and then I sold it. It wasn’t worth keeping, because I’d worry about it happening again after the warranty was gone.

Thanks for the video. I find the poor quality shocking given the very hefty price tag. I have many bags from Aspinal and Mulberry and find the quality of them far superior to many of the higher level bags. I can imagine how disappointing this experience has been, I know I'd have felt the same. I was considering getting the same bag, more so as an investment piece, but now am thinking twice ☹

Here in the US, there is a problem with knockoffs being sold at the designer stores. It is crazy. People are returning knockoffs and keeping the originals. They are so good that the SA cannot tell.

I'm a fan of LV and Gucci, I bought my partner a Gucci bum bag and had to go through 4 of them to pick one that's with less flaws. LV bags are okay so far. But I agree, all the designer bags quality is going down hill while the price is going up, the brands are not even worth it anymore.

I am so so glad I started and finished my Chanel collection by 2019 when all the issues started. My ML classic flaps (I have 3 of them) are in pristine condition - lower in price in 2016 when I bought them and way higher in quality. Sorry to hear bae :(

I have a small flap in caviar and I had a lambskin WOC in lambskin. None of them were bad quality. It probably depends on who is purchasing this. I did sell my lambskin WOC because I barely used it and it became too small for me but I prefer lambskin over caviar. Good luck in the future with your luxury purchases.

The quality of Chanel has been rubbish for a while now. They don't even gold plate their hardware with 24k gold anymore. You're better off buying real vintage, pre 2000s. But with the hikes and the crappy quality Chanel is becoming a brand to skip completely. It's become cheap ( and yet so expensive at the same time)

You should have bougt a vintage one. The quality is insane! Your bag is nice but there is nothing special in it. Cavior leather looks cheap and exactly the same like the bags I saw in a market in Turkey. The same leather, the same look ,the same quality. What's the point to pay sooo much when you can't see any difference. Sorry to say but If I met you in the street I would probably think that you had bought it somewhere in Turkey.

you are absolutely right. these quality issues should not exist for the money these bags cost us. Chanel is making major profits based on their name and these issues should not arise.

Have had the same bag for at least five years, as good as when I purchased it. I don’t baby it but I do have multiple Chanel bags to use in turn to avoid the exceeding wear and tear for any of them

I walk into Chanel stores only handful of times during and after covid, I didn’t look at the price tag, but the leather feel too much processing so it feels plasticky, I had vintage pieces from my mum, they definitely feel much better and not a stray thread for one of them being same age as me 37 lol (push gift from my dad back then) their quality feels like Kate spade now and they are focusing to create trends than classic pass down to your daughter kind of bag

I broke the mystery of the Flaps when I went to Neiman Marcus where they got a lot of display, no staff bugging me and I was touching all the bags available😂. I was able to check details, weight,leather quality etc. The YSL display is just next to it and the leather quality no matter what they say is not that far apart. It broke the mystery to me, time to time I'd still go there to check new releases and it still didn't make my heart flutter. I end up getting the LouLou small at the Outlet, a discontinued beautiful Grey Khaki color for $2550 tax included. It's 2900 plus tax at Neimans.

It's funny but, I bought a 1:1 Chanel replica and an original, and the original looks like the one you'd expect the replica to be. Chanel is a crazy thing. At this point in my life, I don't care to buy from luxury designer houses anymore, except for Dior or Hermes. Thanks for your video!

Samething happened to mine, however after watching a RU-vid video on repairs I was able to stitch mine up perfectly!

Bought a Celine nano belt bag this year and zipper came off after FIVE MONTHS. As you mentions theres warrenty mine was for 2 years and I have the same thought as you- who knows what's gonna happen after my warrenty cus it's broken a few months after I got it. Honestly have no idea which brand still do quality bags that matches their price now.... and this Chanel double flap has always been my dream bag.... and just saw another video that lady's chanel lock has discolurations ...... Now I might go for a vintage one rather than a new one....

I really really wanted to get a chanel bags but I have seen a lot of bad reviews with the quality 😔 I have louis vuitton's but never give me problems ( so far ). To be honest, my coach bags and dooney & bourke brands have more quality than chanel. It's just my opinion 🤷😊✌️

That's really helpful information. I was at DBX Airport. They were selling Medium Classic lamb skin for 7800. I was about to but don't know why I didn't I thought I better get Cartier love bracelet in that price.

What I do love is that even with a vintage Chanel, you can send it in and they repair for free. I recently had a vintage tote repaired there. You won't have to pay anything.

It's tricky with fast fashion because you can pay significantly higher prices for luxury but then the quality isn't there. I wanted to buy this but have heard too many likewise issues. I have had a primark bag for 10 years and it's fine. Sure it doesn't look like Chanel but I'm not trying to impress anyone

I have to agree with you. Similar things happened to me too. Lack of quality. We just paid big price for the brand.

Bought my black caviar single flap large size around the year 2008 for £2,500 in Selfridges, London the last one left before the price increase and Chanel reverting back to the double flap sometime after. I would never have afforded the prices now plus the single flap is a lot more practical.

sorry to hear that you experienced major quality issues with Chanel. Had problems with mine as well. all purchased after 2019. My coco top handle had malformations/bumpy edges on the flap that would not smooth out (due to extra carboard i think inside) despite being reassured otherwise, so got that replaced within a month. The replacement was perfect, got lucky there. My mini reissue had issues with thread fraying. My SA said the threads come like this these days and they would repair if it worsens. Guess what, the repair happened a year later and the bag came back with much less fraying but one end of the bag was sewn too lose. Went back for another repair (at my insistence) and now I'm just using it less frequently to control further fraying (as the material used looked the same). :( Do you have an update on your bag? How did they resolve the issue?
