I’m a biola alum... I read her full prayer and I’m confused 90% of it was asking for God to help her hate. The only thing God wants us to hate us sin not people based on the color of their sin. So sad. “We can’t be reconciled to God until we’re reconciled to each other ” (5:41) 😳 that’s backwards... because we have been reconciled with God we can be reconciled with one another.
Mercer University theology professor Chanequa Walker-Barnes wrote a prayer in which she asks God to help her “hate white people,” specifically, “the nice ones,” such as “the Fox News-loving, Trump-supporting voters” who “don’t see color.” She published the “Prayer of a Weary Black Woman” in the book A Rhythm of Prayer: A Collection of Meditations for Renewal. “Dear God, Please help me to hate White people,” the professor began in her prayer, titled, “Prayer of a Weary Black Woman,” which was published in A Rhythm of Prayer: A Collection of Meditations for Renewal edited by Sarah Bessey. “I want to stop caring about them, individually and collectively,” Walker-Barnes continued. “I want to stop caring about their misguided, racist souls, to stop believing that they can be better, that they can stop being racist.”
The bottom line is: Living life hear in this degenerating world is that Jesus stepped into this world to teach us how "God" would related to the issues of "life". In His teaching, the human construct of "race" was not the focus of his lessons. Jesus instead focused on "individuals" accepting His concept of truth, justice, mercy, compassion, love, forgiveness, helping others, and hope. When my communities - both black and christian - adopt "another way to bring justice" to the church to follow as "a" way to resolve the "issue of the day", the church has lost it's way. Consider, "what kind of behavior attitude does the church think Jesus will be looking for in His people when He returns"? The answer: the same as now, as He rules from heaven! As a 50+ year old black man I understand the issues that face "our world, our nation, the church, and the black community". I get it; the church failed to address the issues of race and gender discrimenation in the church. But to abandon the scriptures to find or explore answers to human issues in the church is as Paul would say, "of the flesh". Remember: "the Spirit gives life, the flesh profits nothing". Please remember that the word of God needs to be applied and spoken in the language that will reach the people - all people, not just WHITE PEOPLE. Black racism against other groups of people "made in God's image", needs to end too. Additionally, keep in mind, the LORD Jesus did not come to fix all issues the first time, nor did he commission His people to become political advocates, social engineers, or reconstructionists. Jesus called us to "make disciples" for Him! Finally, Jesus will fix ALL the problems when He returns to earth, including the problem of some articulate and gifted speakers who take time away from His ideology and message to communicate their own! I'll speak in the flesh for a moment: When black people are ready to deal with the problem of the thousands of black folks killed by other blacks each year in America's cities, come out of denial about it, and stop vilifying everyone who mentions that fact, then I think some "others" just may muster the strength and courage to join us in our fight for justice and equity. Hotep Brother Albert. So much needs to be understood by you for us to even write to you. Nevertheless, it must be realized that race and racism didn't exist 'til the 15th century. Also, we Africans cannot be racist because we do not have the power to affect anyone's lives the way the European power structure here in the US and around the world affects everyone's lives. Please stick to science when attempting to analyze reality. So far as spirituality, your attempt to check Sister speaker is not Biblical. Paul clearly stated that he said some things by order of the Holy Spirit and other things he said by permission of the same. Clearly Sister speaker has brought an important message for us, one of prescience, that is so timely in this BLM moment. In fact, her message will never be irrelevant. We pray our Brothers and Sisters at Home in Azania (South Africa for the foreigners) are watching this one. Finally, it would be a good idea for you to look in the mirror and don't move until you love what you see. Because clearly you have issues with your own Africaness. Again, stick to science. Interesting that she knows what sociopathy is and yet displays it with the words in her voice. Certainly her ancient hatred is nothing new. It's good that Biola has speakers like this display what is provably un-Christian to Christians. Otherwise the good students of Biola may not believe people exist that can be as hateful as Dr. Walker-Barnes.
I listened to this whole thing to see if she wasn't totally crazy like her prayer book. Turns out she is only slightly less crazy. Speaking truth to power is needed in new creation on BOTH sides. Whites aren't the only ones who need to confess their sins for reconciliation to happen.
Is being a "womanist-theologian" somehow offensive to the transgendered community? Seems to me that is way too "binary" an approach for the healing you seek to bring to the legacy of racial and gender oppression...I think it time for you to become even more "woker" - Just saying.....
Wow. Your god wants you to curse white people in order to be reconciled to them? Whatever happened to her, I am really sorry about that. I pray for that woman's repentance and trusting in Jesus for the complete and total washing of her sins. Jesus reconciled His church to Himself by His blood, not because we are reconciled to one another.
