In this Premiere Pro video editing tutorial, we will learn how to pick out and change the color of any individual element of a video. HSL Secondary allows you to target and key a single color range in your video and change the hue, saturation, tint, intensity, or pretty much any property of that color using some simple color wheels and sliders in the Lumetri color panel. To the ones asking about HSL color editing to multiple color selections, here's a method that works for me. Instead of apply HSL edits to your footage directly, create a new adjustment layer by going to file>new>adjustment layer. Make sure your project panel is selected when you do this or else you wont be able to create a new adjustment layer. Drag your adjustment layer from the project panel and on to the timeline, above the clip you'd like to grade. Grade the adjustment layer instead your footage. To grade another color on the same clip, place another adjustment layer on top of the first one and grade that one however you wish. If someone has a better or more organized method, please do share. After all, we are all here to learn :)

Final cut allows this. I use both premiere and final cut and honestly I like final cut better. less crashes and issues.

Can anyone HELP ! I have to use regular paint as blood, so i need to color correct only this "paint", so do i use a darker or lighter colore? Wich one is easer to color correct? (or do i use a green screen/blue screen colore instead ?)

While I knew exactly what to do in the HSL section of Lumetri Color, in a much more real sense... I had no idea what to do. haha. This definitely helped, as its a section I almost never adjust. recently, the white balance I've been shooting with my GoPro has turned all shots of my daughters Pink jacket into an orange jacket. Now I'm good to go... Thanks for the help!

Great tutorial Thanks, quick question Is it possible to change not one but two or more colors using HSL Secondary? I was not able to do so , only way I found to be able to do it is using individual adjustment layer with HSL secondary filter for each color.

Brilliant! Is there a good way to "mask out" thing you don't want to be affected by your changes in HSL secondary? For example that building that also got effected when you worked on the trees. Or if that biker had blue shoes and i just want to change the blue shirt?

You can add multiple layers of Lumetri to your clip and mask off certain sections frame by frame. Then use the HSL in each instance to only affect the masked area. If you want to affect the area around the mask you can click the "invert" box.

This was so awfully slow for me, until I realized that I had to enable GPU acceleration on Premiere, by opening it with the NVidia graphics card, instead of the integrated Intel card. Then I had to change the project options… Can't believe I've been working with premiere for 2 years and I still didn't know this.

Is it possible to isolate a specific portion of the frame to which I can apply this effect (for example if I have two yellow pillows, and want to change the colour of one but keep the colour of the other, in a still shot)?

Adobe really needs a plus sign on the HSL adjustment to allow you to add multiple secondary adjustments on the same lumetri effect. That way we can do multiple colors.

Actually, just found out... you can click the drop down menu on the Lumetri Color panel. It allows you to "Add Lumetri Color Effect." This adds an additional instance of Lumetri Color onto the same clip. That way each instance of Lumetri Color can target a separate color. That being said, I realize your comment is 2 years old and you may no longer be wondering about this. :)

It's not motion taking....yes it do affect. But you can control that by using masks

Some tutorials show an invert button right next to the black/grey panel, but my program like yours does not, it only has a reset button there. Can you tell me where the invert button is on this version?

All well and good but if I want to make a blue shirt yellow for example, I cannot. This only seems to allow me to add yellow to my already blue shirt and I end up with a green shirt. How on earth do I get it from the pure blue shirt in my video to the nice bright yellow shirt that I want. I must be doing something wrong, right?

I click on the color yellow/lime whatever that shade is, and it makes everything BUT the yellow area, grey. Whats that about ?

I dont know why, but those things passed the broadcast limit and the lumetri scopes are both clipping in shadow and highlights in the first clip.. I know that you arent explaining color correction on the whole thing but if you want to color correct a specific area you should color correct all the area first. just saying.
