2 points that I read everywhere else. 1. Only turn it in one continuous direction, not back and forth. 2. Dampen the stone with water or honing oil. I see your disk is quite worn and this will help to prevent so much wear to the stones.
I would definitely agree that it's a great investment after hearing what you said about 2 blades in 6 years. I wasn't sure before watching this if I actually thought it would work (so many gadgets do not). Thank you so much! I'd rather spend my money on pretty fabric!
I just used one for the first time and it worked beautifully. Here's what I did. I used a drop of sewing machine oil on the blade and turned in one direction only against the brown side for 20 turned. Then I turned it against the dark gray side for 15 turns in one direction only. My blade was super sharp afterward and wouldn't cut butter before.
