This video isn't actually just about changing eye color in Photoshop, it's also about adjusting colors more generally, and selecting specific colors in Photoshop CS6. I also explain how to use hue/saturation adjustment layers in Photoshop CS6 to easily adjust eye color after an initial change has been made, and other odds and ends of color adjustment stuff.

Hi Alex, You can select the brush (they are all round, by default) by pressing the "B" key on your keyboard, or the brush icon in the left-side toolbar. Then, above the left toolbar, there will be a brush icon, and next to, to the right, will be a drop-down panel for selecting the size and softness of the brush. You can also change brush size with the square bracket keys on your keyboard: [ for smaller, ] for larger

I just painted around it. Since there wasn't much color in the hair's shadow area, it just wasn't important to get it absolutely pixel perfect. I use a Wacom pen-tablet when I'm doing this sort of thing, which makes it easier to paint where I want. - Matthew

Matthew's reply for a similar question :"In part, it's the fact that it's a moderately high resolution image, and just a head-shot, so I'm not zooming in too much. If you download the image, you should get the same results. I also am using hardware acceleration in Photoshop (under the "performance" menu in the preferences), which reduces the amount of jagged edges from aliasing. For that, you need a supported graphics card, but lots of them are."

Hi TBT, If I understand you correctly, then there really isn't a way unless you're in a cop-show on TV. If you've got an image at the 100% zoom level or smaller, it will not be pixelated, but as soon as you go past that, the pixels just get bigger... there's no way to get more detail out of the picture. If you use the "Image Size" command & use the "bicubic smoother" option & make the picture bigger, it smooths it a little, but it's not really more detailed.

I wish that GIMP were good enough. I've tried to switch, and it just doesn't cut it (for the work that I do). The main stumbling point for me is the lack of adjustment layers.

If you zoom in far enough on any image you'll get pixelation (and the grid). In this case, it's simply a high resolution image with the face as a large part of it... so it can take a lot of zooming. Did you try the sample image?

The skin was processed by the photographer; as I mentioned, this is just a stock photo that I was using for the purpose of demonstration. Part of it is lighting, part is makeup, and part is post processing, I'd guess.
@MatthewGore
@MatthewGore 11 лет назад
Hmmm. Are you working with a color image? If it's set to greyscale instead of RGB, that would do it. Check under the "Image > Mode" menus. Otherwise, I'm not sure. Are you using any other adjustment layers or masks?

There's some 3rd party software that helps. One is called "Genuine Fractals", another is called "Blow Up". Both are used for printing images at larger sizes without getting pixelated... but the results can look a little cartoonish if you go too large.
@MatthewGore
@MatthewGore 11 лет назад
Well, I'm stumped, then. Another thing to check is whether your Brush's blending mode is set to normal. Just like layers, the brush can be set to "overlay" etc. Good luck!

With something like this, you'd usually have to make a mask. If the hair and the shirt are not overlapping, though, it would be pretty easy to follow the procedure that I mentioned for changing the couch color, and then: 1. Select the layer mask for the hue-saturation adjustment layer (white box on adjustment layer, in the layers palette) by clicking on it. 2. Get a black paintbrush 3. Paint over anything (like the shirt) that you don't want to be affected by the adjustment layer. - Matthew

Hi Kristina; there was nothing special about it... I just used a moderately small brush, normal blend mode, with the "softness" set to around 50%, although a completely soft brush would have worked fine, but it would have to be a little smaller. In fact, even if you paint over the reflection of the beauty dish, since it's white, it will stay white after you change the blend mode for most of the blend modes that I mentioned.

Well, the easy way is to hold down the CTRL key (Command on Mac) and press the + and - buttons. You can also use the Navigator panel, and there may be other ways that I'm not thinking of...

I'm a beginner and I don't know what to do after I change the eye color. Do I use inverse or not?..and if I save it will it remain the color I changed it to or will it revert back? Also I couldn't figure out how to get the slider to change the color so I just use the color it gave me.

I would actualy do the eye part different. What I would do is to paint the eyes 50%gray. And then add a solid colour to that layer and blend it after that. That way you got alot more controll over the colours.

hi matthew.i have a question.how did you zoom it without getting it blurry or pixelized?
@jessicapatterson2011
@jessicapatterson2011 11 лет назад
Most likely, you are using a low-resolution image. Best results are achieved when using a high resolution jpeg, or even better a raw image. Digital images taken from the internet contain about 72ppi, whereas jpeg and raw images contain many, many more pixels. Therefore, when zooming in, image integrity is maintained. Hope that helps!

What do you do if you want the eyes to be two colours at once? So what I want is to have the outer parts blue, and then the blue just kind of blend into a really sharp metal colour. I'm trying to make something like a robot eye but not using any other pictures because that's really hard. I just want to use normal colours to make it blend into each other. I have a photo I could show you of an example if you want.
