On July 17, I began an attempted thru-hike (with a few detours) of the Colorado Trail. I’m heading southbound from Denver to Durango.
This is Episode 8 in the series in which I approach Lake City, CO, and the San Juans. The video includes San Luis Peak, San Luis Pass and Snow Mesa.
Total trip days in this video: Day 23 to Day 25.
The Colorado Trail segments includes in this video are: Colorado Trail Segment18 (Colorado Hwy-114 to Saguache Park Road) (partial); Segment 19 (Saguache Park Road to Eddiesville Trailhead); Segment 20 (Eddiesville Trailhead to San Luis Pass); and Segment 21 (San Luis Pass to Spring Creek Pass Trailhead).
Liz is making videos too. At RU-vid: “Liz Kidder”

Who doesn't love a good Taco? Especially in the Wild West. What are your and Liz cowboy names? You'll never see stars like that in the city. So glad you're still on trail. Awesome to see you both still making steps. Trail on ☺️

New to your channel. I've watched about three of your videos on this hike. I follow Liz because of her dreadlock business but got started watching her hikes and love it. Loved that you all hiked together and, Taco included, and decided to take an extra day. Can't hike now due to disability, age and fat, but these videos are so refreshing to my days. Loved that Liz left her mark on Taco😊

@Evan - you're from the Lou!!! You have that general affability that I appreciate so. I don't hear the "38, 39, FARTY" sort of accent, tho!! Cheers.

Evan, you said exactly what I have been thinking throughout your hike. I didn't realize how expansive the open land was out there. Pretty incredible! Have a great day....

Enjoyed seeing you on this segment of the CT and I'll look forward to more of your hike. I've volunteered many summers with the Colorado Trail Foundation and in 2010 I worked for a week on the segment beginning at the Eddiesville Trailhead. Caught a few nice trout fly fishing Cochetopa Creek on our day off. Good to see the work we did 13 years ago is holding up well. Thanks for the nice scenery and memories.

Evan thanks for videos you are the best. You know how it is out here in the North Carolina mountains? You have hiked them many times. I have been out to colorado montana wyoming and other states many times. You said it right them states. You don't realize how big they are unless you get out in them. You hike drive and look at those mountains. And you go around a big mountain. And the same thing as far as you can see more and more, big mountains. The views are unique. It's just a different beautiful area. It gives u. Alot of different feelings . I tell everyone here they need to go west and see. I'll be out there the last of Sept. After some people have left. Will hike for 2 to 4 days . Good to meet guy with horse. Thanks for your videos... oh yeah. What is the cook pot Liz is using. Thanks

Can sure tell when the elevation gets to you in your speech and thinking, I spent a few weeks in the area of Durango and up into the San Juans mountains and it affected me as well. You guys are doing a great hike though Thanks for bringing us along.

Rock glaciers. Freezing and thawing causes the rocks to slowly creep downhill. You can find them in the Appalahians, too, though they no longer move but did move when the Appalachians were tundra during ice ages.

Can I ask why you don’t use something like the Gaia app for navigation? So many map layers available on it and nice features.

Yes, I said I had the national geographic map. I am using Gaia for that. I had to download maps. Keep in mind that I don’t usually have service.

You didn't summit San Louis? I did in 2021. No sheep for you. Sad, I saw thousands of them when I went through there. You are approaching the San Juans! My favorite part of the trail!!! 🤠🦵
