In this Physics video lecture in Hindi we explained the change of state of matter for class 11. Normally matters have three states, viz., solid, liquid and gas. Although there is a fourth state of matter, namely, plasma; but we are not discussing about that in this video. When matter converts from one state to another, the process is called the change of state.
When solid changes to liquid the process is known as melting. Change from liquid to solid is called fusion or freezing.
When liquid changes to gas the process is known as vaporisation. Change from gas to liquid is called condensation.
In some condition a matter may convert from its solid state to its gaseous state directly, which is called sublimation and the opposite, i.e., conversion of gas to solid is known as desublimation or deposition.
The temperature does not change during the change of state in matter.
The temperature at which a material changes its phase from solid to liquid is called the melting point for that material. Melting point varies with applied pressure. The melting point at standard atmospheric pressure is known as normal melting point. For water this normal melting point is 0 degree Celsius.
The temperature at which a material changes its phase from liquid to gas is called the boiling point for that material. Boiling point varies with applied pressure. The boiling point at standard atmospheric pressure is known as normal boiling point. For water this normal boiling point is 100 degree Celsius.
