That zoom in as his facial expression shifted from contentment to distant sadness and longing, as well as the match-cut to some years down the line was absolutely wonderful. Not to mention that dead *silence* on the soundtrack during that scene between him and the guard. It did not *feel* tense. It *was* tense.

Why does it have to be funny? This was absolutely perfect.

Of course the male_09 tries to out right provoke the CP

I like how, I assume, the dispatcher calls that CP to apartment raid from Half-Life 2.

I just love how this man actually had the guts to stand up and directly oppose the Metrocop. He knew that in the past it was better, and he knew that people had dignity, so he decided to stand up and just spit into the cop's face: "You want this bench? Come on and take it, fucker."

Interesting exploration into citizen life before and after.

I just realized the citizens that were alive before the war probably have PTSD of the war and are probably depressed the people born before the war or during it just think this is the normal way of life

Even though it's not a funny one, it's still beautifully animated.

Really well done, when I previously played Half-Life 2, I looked at all the Combine buildings and towers thinking nothing of it, because of course, we only jump in when they're well into their control. We see the underground people and the rebels, but except for the first few parts where you see apartment raids, not much citizen life is seen.

Sorry this isn't a funny one, I started the channel with Half-Life 2 content, and it's been too long since I've gotten back into it. I have a lot of Half-Life projects that are either scrapped or in dev hell (including this one), so it's nice to get one out again. Don't worry though, the funnies will back soon, along side more somber projects like this.

I see what the guy is doing in his flashback. When he's ordered by a metrocop to get up from the bench and go on with his day, he does stand up but disobeys the order to "move along". He's given about 3 warnings, the third the metrocop pulls out his stun-baton, threatening the man. The man notices people are staring at him and in that moment of people wondering what the hell is going on, he raises his voice to the metrocop and says "Go on!" He knew that the metrocop would show brutality for such a minor thing as sitting on a bench. This however did not happen as the metrocop radioed dispatch and was told to "disengage" as there was another problem happening. The metrocop chuckles, turns off the baton and proceeds to do what he was ordered, showing mercy. In short, the man was resisting the oppressing force of the Combine and saying "Fuck it, hit me with the stick if this is such a problem."

I like how aged the citizen looks like in the future, actually adds to the video.

CP: Move away M: .... CP: *pulls out stun stick* this is your final warning M: ..... CP: Back away M: Go on! CP: Man this guy has some balls

I would honestly love to see more content like this. Keep up the good work.

Very little is directly told to the watcher, but you still managed to get the point across. Even someone who doesn't know much about Half-life would feel the gravity of the situation. Very well done, sir!

This is really powerful, it makes you think about how nice life was, and how we should savor our lives, before something tragic like this happens

this is cool. 0:38 he really almost was gonna move along. but the CP pushed it, trying to exert his authority too much, it offended the man's dignity. "Really? I can't even sit on a bench anymore? No, you're gonna have to take it from me if you want it."

Honestly, this is beautiful. Keep it up man. Funny, or serious, your SFM's are a treat.

The way he looks around at the end is really sad he probably thought "What happened here?" "Why everything changed so drastically?" "Why time passed so quickly?" (Also Please do more animation's of this kind. It really brings the feeling of sadness and nostalgia Your serious video are really good.)

The last chuckle from that Combine almost felt like a "Ohoh, citizen, you scamp! Get on outta here, you!"

That's the only thing that makes me be grateful of the fact the water has been adulterated to make you forget... If he actually could remember those last 20 years and the times before the disaster...

This made me cry at a moment,a citizen still dreaming about a normal happy life,forgetting the horrors of the word he ives in.

One thing I really love about this animation is how it shows that any act of resistance, no matter how small, is an act of resistance, even if it's as simple as saying "No, I won't move" to a metrocop. Even if that metrocop kills someone else later, and even if this moment doesn't last forever, that was our protagonist's way of temporarily reclaiming a small piece of the world he once had. Truly an amazing animation

I really like how that male_09 model makes him look older compared to the flashback one.

"Local Protection Team Units report on residential block 6" sounds like a miscount in their block due to certain individual with a goatee and glasses

That is really beautiful in a way, that I can't describe with my own words. I can feel the anger and the loss in that person. And I'm really impressed by the facial expressions. It's maybe the best SFM I've ever seen!

Sometimes I just remember this adorable SFM and immediately watch it again and again. One of best SFM of all time(if not best of the best).

This animation is very well made in my opinion that for some of here can reflect on time going by at a somber moments feeling tranquility for that man he certainly wishes to go back to before the seven hour war. SFM is an art truly well put together with great minds with remarkable talent.

This is such a seriously well made film. All the characters' mannerisms are on point, especially the metro cop. It's good to know there are still some properly skilled & talented animators on RU-vid.

This got to my feelings, poor elder had a happy life until the combine took over and now things are never the same. and when he told that CP to basically hit him (what I can understand from him saying "Go on"), I wonder if he actually wanted to pass on from the world he was living in, to live a better life than the one he's suffering in.

This is an amazing SFM! It's nice to have a serious animation that isn't over the top and filled with clichés like the ones that go into the saxy awards

0:43 I love how you can see the citizens entire train of thought during this stare at the CP, such provoking emotion that it's genuinely disheartening At the beginning, his stubbornness turns into him trying to empathize with the protection unit, his eyes filling with sorrow in an attempt to brave the question to the unit "Do you really trust the Combine?", "Why would you do this to yourself? Your people?" When the CP takes his stunstick out, his empathy has turned back into frustration, before he looks to the onlooking citizens. He looked to the floor as if to say "If it's what I have to do to get a message across, I guess there's no other option."
