Very useful info from you. Thank you! Unfortunately, I will have to repaint a large part of it in a CMYK canvas, as I used a colour gradient with watercolours. At least I can use the outline from the RGB canvas.

@Ja-rt6lg

Hey! From what I know CMYK will always be the duller version of our RGB artwork because RGB is more for digital work and CMYK is for printed media and it has a limited amount of color space to pull from. I would say to better the colors of your printed artwork try to find the closest match of the RGB color to the CMYK color :) Hopes this helps!

is there no way to get a cmyk file to be less dull?? like what if someone's art is brighter and more colorful and when printed as cmyk, it is totally dull and muted? i mean can the hsb adjustment be done in a cmyk procreate canvas so it resembles the more vibrant colorful rgb art?
@DirectorRose13

for example, printers with inkjets instead of cartridges seem to be printing more vibrantly as of recently so maybe it could be possible to print bright colors??

I figured it out i think. Ok so I fumbled with this myself. What i did is: I kept the file in RGB, but i noticed when you go to export and print the color is off because printers use CMY and it alters the color. So i just went to the Hue/ saturation tab and lowered the saturation ( it will be set at 50%, just lower it to about 38% maybe lower) and then when you go to export the file will look more like the original. I havnt tried to print just get but so far it looks like the file retained the original color. And isnt so bright and over saturated.

Can you "PREVIEW" CMYK while working in RGB (in Procreate)?

Unfortunately no. You'd need to export a flat image and import it into a CMYK doc. I found sometimes the colour would only look different if I then exported the new doc as a PSD!

Thank you so much for this helpful video. I have just created a children's book and the designer created all the images in RGB instead of CMYK. I have a question: she sent me all the Procreate files, if I copy them over layer by layer is the quality likely to be better than if I simply export is as a .psd and upload it? It's very important to me that the colours of the printed book are bright and not washed out. She's not really helping me so I would really appreciate your help with this as this is a very important project.
@iPadCalligraphy
@iPadCalligraphy Год назад
Hey Martine! It might be worth testing how the print turns out keeping in RGB format. You are printing professionally by the sounds? Call the printer and ask what he/she suggests in this case. They might even allow you to submit .psd files and run a test both in RGB and a CMYK version to see which comes out better. They could then more easily change the colour format for you as well. In a situation like that, you're better off using software that will allow those colour changes easily (like photoshop) and a professional print shop will definitely have that. Hope that helps!

The colors available in CMYK are more limited compared to the colours displayed onscreen (which use the RGB format). I’d suggest working with a CMYK palette to start with, that way you can choose from the color set and stick to colors that are possible to produce when printed and won’t be comparing with the screen RGB colours

@iPadCalligraphy
@iPadCalligraphy Год назад
Hi Jay. If you are working with CMYK they will be more muted than the RGB palette. Depends what your goals are. If you plan to print, CMYK is the better option and the muted colours onscreen are a more accurate reflection of what the printed version will look like. It's not muting the colours but giving rather you a preview of the print palette.

I have found the colour change is only really obvious when you export the artwork from Procreate. In the video, I suggest using a .psd format for this as it is compatible with the CMYK colour spectrum.

Hi I don’t know when this tutorial was made, maybe it’s from a previous version of Procreate, but Can’t you just go into the tools and under add click “copy Canvas” it copies everything you have showing in one layer and doesn’t flatten your original layers, then go back to the gallery and make a canvas the same size but with CMYK then go back under tools under add and hit paste? That’s how I’ve been doing it, it usually totally changes the colors unfortunately cuz I like using bright jewel colors, so I’m guessing it’s fully converting it to CMYK colors. Is there
@iPadCalligraphy
@iPadCalligraphy Год назад
Hey Lara, thanks for that! Brilliant tip about the 'copy canvas' option. It flattens the canvas when you paste into a new doc for me though .. does it work differently for you? I'm running the latest version
@iPadCalligraphy
@iPadCalligraphy Год назад
the reason you would do layer by layer is to preserve the layers in the NEW doc as well so you can continue working non-destructively.
@elisacota1769

To copy the layers you can simply select them all and then drag and drop them onto the new canvas, so you don't have to copy them one by one
@iPadCalligraphy
@iPadCalligraphy 10 месяцев назад
Thanks, and that is such a good tip! There's a little trick though, you need to drag the layers onto a blank layer in the layers panel (not just the canvas itself), otherwise the position and order will mess up. It also won't keep any of your layer properties or blend modes.
