In the 70s, Grandma and I walked to Kienow's when she lived off of 53rd and Stark St. She had never driven in her life. Grandma had a horse ring on the curb in front of her house. There was a milk box on the front porch for Alpenrose dairy. My Uncle had a TV repair company and he would come test the TV tubes now and then in his jumpsuit. We went to Presbyterian Church at the place they now call "Taborspace". I got to meet all the old timers growing up back then thru her. These folks all had stock piles of can foods, etc. because they lived through The Great Depression. Portland is NOTHING like it was. I live in Arizona now. Thank you, Jesus RIP Portland

I lived on the SW corner of 18th & Belmont st in 1984. 18th dead ends where the concrete staircase enters Col Summers park. I was 19 yrs old then. The house I rented was a 3 bedroom with a full basement. We rented the house for $300 a month! We called it The Belmont House.. We threw kegger's every weekend & went through as many as 5 kegs a night, sometimes selling more than a 100 cups! We charged a dollar a head at the door! We had money to burn & life was good!

I turned 1 in 1974, but about 21 years later I lived across from Col. Summers Park, and it likely hadn't changed much by then.

I loved growing up in Portland and moved from SW to SE in the late 70's. Definitely felt more a sense of neighborhood in SE. I love my city and pray there's a way to restore it to it's beautiful self!

I’ve lived all over really, 31 & Ankeny - 38th and Madison. I moved over to 23rd and Burnside back in 2002 and lived at 735 St Claire on the 22nd floor. Which by far was a great time in Portland, it was right when the Pearl was still pretty empty and burned out. Lots of Artists/ musicians and me and my roommate at the time owned a clothing line that we ran out of the apt. With that sad. I’m absolutely sick about what the city looks like now. A lot of my memories certainly don’t match up with the current views of the city.

I grew up on SE 28th and Division. Then move to SE 45th st and Raymond by Steele street and correct me if I’m wrong. I think that’s where I went to Richmond elementary. Remember Portland Wrestling? There was a gym right by Richmond elementary called Loprenzies. I heard about it watching Portland wrestling. Jesse Ventura worked out there. I used to do the crossing guard thing in the fourth grade and one afternoon I had an idea and told my partner, you want to go meet Jesse Ventura? I was a kid with a huge imagination and just knew that he worked out at that gym. So me and my buddy told the teacher that we had to leave early to do the crossing guard thing because we were on the post farthest away from the school so we wanted to get there early. I was a little thinker. Haha. So we used that extra time to go and we walked into the gym with our crossing guard uniforms on and the guuys at the front were laughing at two little kids in our crossing guard outfits with our flags. And I said, is Jesse Ventura here? And the guy at the front yelled “Hey Jesse, you got a couple of fans out here. So he came out in his leotard all big and muscular. And he put in the show for us kids. It was so freaking cool. He was a bad guy wrestler but we liked him. And he was talking trash on the good guy wrestlers saying , you kids like Dutch Savage and Jimmy Snooka, huh? And we said no way man we like you and Bull Ramos Jesse. So he laughed and I asked him. For his autograph. So I gave him a piece of paper and he got a pen and I got Jesse Venturas autograph that day. Haha. Cool story. I was something else as a littler kid 🤣

I grew up in SE Portland. I went to Woodstock Elementary, Richmond and Hosford in 1st grade. My favorite memories were living in the Woodstock area. I played baseball and was the best pitcher in our little league. That made me feel pretty good as a child. The little guys feared my pitches and sometimes I would throw a fastball and they would just duck and not even try to hit my pitch. That was crazy, I was throwing heat in the third grade LOL But my dad didn't like baseball much so I became a basketball player. I tried out in another league and they had me fielding balls and I sucked at it because I was a pitcher and catcher. I didn't play outfield, so I quit baseball after we moved to Vancouver and they didn't have the sports programs like they did in Portland. But I got in to basketball a lot, that was great. Played starting point guard all through high school

Probably a copy of the original color video tape. Tape cost more back then, so they would archive footage by re-recording it at slower speed in B&W.
