In the UK we have changes to highway code 2022. The question is why? Why these changes? What is the reason for the highway code 2022 to came with these changes. New rules on the highway code about giving more priority to pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and more, and I'm sharing in this video why these rules came. Laws and rules don't just come for no reason. It comes because there is a problem which needs solving.

I agree drivers are very unpatient even towards learner drivers, they forget that once upon a time they were walking and learning to drive. My only hope is that pedestrians do not abuse this law.

I really like your point of view, the law is there for a reason, we are both drivers and pedestrians, we should be considerate of each other. Thank you for the video!

I think so many people don't know about rules on road so many people don't giving me way when I am standing on zebra crossing and on side roads they're thinking all priority they've got not other road user's and it is so bad and dangerous aswell🙄😡

I agree with you but I saw some people run in front of vichle
@simonavarne9635
@simonavarne9635 2 года назад
Give it time and people will get used to it and then it will become the accepted norm. Just like what happened with seat belts, not drink driving etc. Also remember that all roads (apart from motorways, level crossings and a few bridges and tunnels) are all historic foot paths on which vehicles are allowed under license. So pedestrians always have had priority. Hence rule H2: "Pedestrians may use any part of the road and use cycle tracks as well as the pavement, unless there are signs prohibiting pedestrians."
@ssb2341
@ssb2341 2 года назад
I am worried that most of people when crossing the zebra crossing they don't look or stop if the vicle is very near to the zebra crossing which is dangerous. In my opinion please stop, look then cross. I understand people have right on zebra crossing it doesn't mean when the vicle already on the zebra crossing do not run because padistrian have right .
@simonavarne9635
@simonavarne9635 2 года назад
It was the law to give way to pedestrians on zebra crossing before these changes so you should always slow down and be prepared to stop when approaching a zebra crossing. The new rule says you should give way to pedestrians waiting to cross. This of course makes sense as they might step out just as you approach so it is safer to stop and let them rather than carry on and hit them.

Yes, we should look after the more vulnerable & elderly but the reality on the road is not as simple as that. Ex1: Pedestrians. This new rules will desensitise pedestrians of the natural fear of oncoming or turning cars which may not be prepared to stop because the light is green & this could lead to more pedestrians death in the UK & worse abroad on holiday because this rule doesn't apply oversees. Ex2: Cyclists & e-scooters: Such group never respect any rules anyway therefore now, it's free will. Ex3: Motorcyclists. Known for reckless road conduct including slipping in between cars & riding on the lane divider solid white marking, engine ravebombing to bully their way forward, will now think they have more priority to rodeo & do flips on the road as they wish. Ex4: Cars. The impact on journey delay will increase with unecessary bottle neck cause by pedestrians because you're now tempering with the automatic & computerised traffick light control algorythm that have served well up to now not to mention butt collisions due to sudden deceleration & breaking. Who will pick up the mess worse? The pedestrians & the insurrance companies.

I agree with you about the reasoning behind the changes but I do not agree with how they are being implemented. To just put new highway rules does not change attitudes. We already have so many rules that are not being followed eg drivers going over amber and red lights. It also in my opinion potentially puts pedestrians at risk because we might stop to someone cross at a T junction, and another driver suddenly comes round the corner. For learner drivers I feel it puts more pressure on them to do the "right" thing when most are not.
@simonavarne9635
@simonavarne9635 2 года назад
Changing attitudes takes time but it is quite possible. It was done with seatbelts, drink driving and increasingly with speeding. In a few years it will become so normal that our roads will be safer and more pleasant to be in for everyone

The "should" rules may not be law but the law does say if you don't follow them and have an accident then you will be liable which could well cost you a lot of money. Also being kind and considerate to pedestrians is just the decent thing to do
@cheekydevil69ER
@cheekydevil69ER 2 года назад
@@simonavarne9635 new so called rules is pretty very dangerous and will increase accident. I'm not listen to tory lawmaker because they are reckless. I did give way to pedestrians most of time like asda, zebra cross, and open road when it's safe to do so.. But at T junction? No fat chance I'm not having a risk for someone crash into me from the behind which cost me more. I'll give it a pass. Cheer
