Thanks for sharing - Gave me the confidence to have a go. It was much easier than I thought and took about an hour to quietly and calmly change the plug.

Well done Martin, that was a good job done well. You seem to have a natural ability to make an awkward job look straightforward, logical and easy. Keep up the good work and posting. Enjoy your trip

Thanks, this was a great help and gave me the confidence to take the job on. I also found details of the wire colours in the caravan handbook so I photocopied this page and it gave me a ready made checklist. I should have listened to your suncream advice - I had my shirt off and now I’ve got a back like a lobster!

Glad the vid helped, I don’t know why all manufactures don’t use the same colour coding. Yes sun cream is essential for this job 😂 Thanks for comments and watching.

It's great to see videos on useful jobs to do on Caravans with someone who obviously knows what there doing or if you don't work it out and explain succinctly how it is done. All to often I've had work done by NCC approved workshops and they either forgot to do it, or poor shoddy work, I've even had damage, found screws in the carpet, and charged a fortune..

Thanks for the feedback, I’m always in the mindset that if I can do it myself I will have a go and save some money. I’ve had previous vans serviced by mobile approved and sometimes found things go faulty not long after! Thanks for watching 👍

Another great little video to help us fumble fisted types. Good tip to write it all down. I’ve had to change the socket on the car a couple of times, they get filthy, and it’s the same principle but very much more difficult to get to. But you can lay down on the job!! 😄👍🏻 keep em coming, Trev.

Thanks Trev. I’m not great with fiddly jobs but managed ok, hopefully won’t have to do the car as the electrics on tow bar have life time guarantee. Don’t know if that’s my life time or the cars!! Cheers Martin 👍

I didn’t know how to do it or if there were any special things to avoid. So I followed your instructions and blew the 12v fuse cos pin 9 was live. I hadn’t seen a wiring diagram so I didn’t think anything connecting to the vehicle would be live. Cheers

Enjoyed the video Martin and useful know. What I have experienced is a neighbour had his twist when off so the plug did not align with the socket. Not sure how he got around that although I have seem a simple tool to rectify it on FB but for the life of me I cannot find one. Thanks again.

Hi Martin, just playing catch up on your older vids. Reccomend that you get a green cap for your plug. It will help protect from the element also a bungee to kepp the cable out of the way when towing and storing. Regards Mike
@TheCaravanNut
@TheCaravanNut 5 лет назад
Hi Mike, I’ve not seen the green cap, will look that up. The cable goes over the top of the hitch so it doesn’t hang down when towing. Thanks again for your support and feedback, Martin 👍

Another great video, very useful, the Fridge and interior lights, stopped working on the van shortly after we had it serviced. Fridge and lights etc work off the 12v battery but not when plugged into the 13pin on the car. Checked fuses and Going to trouble shoot through the manual; if that fails will look at replacing the 13pin socket. Was it expensive?
@TheCaravanNut
@TheCaravanNut 6 лет назад
I got the plug from amazon, £8. The fridge when traveling only maintains the temperature, they recommend running it on gas for a couple of hours to cool before towing. check which setting the fridge should be on when towing. Not sure about the lights. Not long until your France trip 😊😊👍

Thanks. I have to change mine and you've made it look simple. Do I need to isolate the caravan power from the leisure battery in any way? Is there power going to any of the cables in the connector you changed please?

Yes disconnect the battery first to be on the safe side. Cheers

This is a fiddly job with so many cores to control. The makers of your old plug were cheap to use steel screws instead of brass. Must have saved them nearly a penny! @4:25 - tricky to get the wires through - I would cut the wires back to the sheath, makes threading the grommet etc easy. Then cut away the sheath (outer and inners), lengths like before, to expose a new length of cores. Reveals fresh uncorroded copper for better connections too. Pull an extra 2" from inside the van to make it up. @4:50 - silicone grease is the way to go; it deters water too.
@TheCaravanNut
@TheCaravanNut 5 лет назад
Cheers for the tips 😊 there’s always an easier way to do things but you never think about them when you’re doing the job! 😊

Had same problem but all what you need to do is unscrew the front part and screw the new one back on. You don’t need to do all rewiring.
@TheCaravanNut
@TheCaravanNut 5 лет назад
Yes thought of doing that but the plug connections were looking a bit rusty so decided to do the whole plug. Thanks for watching 🙂

Well done! It looks like a very fiddly job! I can wire a house plug socket no problem but this looks tricky but I would attempt it if it saved quick a bit of money. How long would you say it took you from start to finish?
@TheCaravanNut
@TheCaravanNut 6 лет назад
Hi Maureen, it took about half an hour to do, the main thing is to make sure you write all the colour locations down before taking old plug off. Thanks for watching, Martin 👍

Martin, again very brave, (electricity gives me the creeps? wiring ahhhhh? don't know what am doing?) actually very good, confident way about you, when doing something, thats great. Tell me, when testing that fitting! plugging up the van and checking the lights? all worked , fine, but what about the other connections? IE== 13 Pin Euro Trailer Wiring Diagram Pin No. Wire colour Trailer light Function 1 Yellow Left Indicator 2 Blue Fog light 3 White Earth 4 Green Right Indicator 5 Brown Right tail / side Light 6 Red Brake / Stop Light 7 Black Left tail / side Light 8 Pink Reversing Light 9 Orange 12v Permanent power for Battery 10 Grey 12v Ignition on Battery charging or Fridge 11 White/Black Earth for Terminal 10 12 White/Blue NOT usually used (you said this?) 13 White/Red Earth for Terminal 9 How would you test for all these?
@TheCaravanNut
@TheCaravanNut 5 лет назад
Good question Bryn, Testing lights obviously easy as for the rest you could check them with a multimeter. I don’t have one so I just checked the fridge 12v indicator light and the battery is charging when towing by checking volt meter in the caravan. The annual service should pick up if anything is not working. Some vans have different coloured wires but if you put them in the same pin in the plug all should be fine. My advice to someone doing this job would be, if your not sure don’t do it! 😂 cheers Martin 👍

Gave you a thumbs down. Only reason I'm on here is to learn how to take the plug apart, you did that in a half a nano second. I rewound many times but still couldn't tell how. A classic "you just pull it off" well mine doesn't just pull off. As John Wayne once said " yer hear how fast I'm talking, well that's how fast I'm listening" "yer can do it once slowly, or 10 times quickly"
