When defending attacks while using mma gloves changes must be made. You are no longer protected by the cushion of the 10oz boxing glove. Today, via request, I breakdown the changes you should recognize and starting utilizing if you are going to be competing in MMA gloves.

One thing I noticed with small gloves and kick defense is that it is waaay easier to hurt your fingers. Especially on the three point block. I never paid attention to my finger position on the catching hand in big gloves. Caught a left kick on the fingers of my left hand twice. Not fun at all. Talked to others about it, apparently I am not the only one. So you guys out there: don't hurt your fingers :)

Its good rule to finish the combo with a left hook or a jab to get back in stance and when you do end the combo with a right hand than Use head movement and Roll out to the right side. It works 🥊😁

What about Charles Jourdain's defense, he seems to use the technique of a flat hand guard which you suggest, but his style seems to rely on the shell method, which he is very good at. Haven't seen any fighters rely on the guard as much in MMA to his degree of success.

It is interesting that the style becomes more similar to (old style, '70/'80) karate. short combinations, foot work and distance, counters, etc.. That does not change the fact that karate is a degenerated style, affected by many merely traditional techniques and a limited arsenal. but it help explain where its approach comes from. after all, it is "the way of the bare hand".

Do you prefer fighting/training in boxing gloves or mma gloves???
@sylascole5254
@sylascole5254 Год назад
Training in MMA gloves is usually more fun, but probably better to train in boxing gloves if you spar regularly I think. Lower risk of cuts, eye pokes, small hand injuries, but it is fun to try to slip shots through people's guard, and being able to grapple properly.
@Nergal123
@Nergal123 Год назад
The heavier big gloves are harder to punch hard in and take more energy, so I prefer them as a training tool. When you switch to small gloves after training to hit hard with big gloves there's a noticeable difference for me then when I train just with small gloves.

@@RageNg Yep. Other things I like about the small gloves is just the convenience, you can grab stuff, make gestures etc. I feel they also make me more calculated in sparring, as it's easier to get hit, while at the same time having to keep good control so you don't hurt your partner.
@izzygarcialionibabaloipici6293
Coach in the little gloves in there any worry of your hands breaking from guarding. Since they're smalles doesn't the force of the shots travel deeper into your hand's tissues? Can someone break their opponents hands by attacking them in the little gloves?

@DaveElwoodCutter
@DaveElwoodCutter Год назад
@@Tungsten-le1wy It’s important to note that you should stay within your striking range. If you evade a punch with backwards movement be able to spring back from that to land your own shots. Most people move too far away essentially “running away” every time the opponent attacks. Shakur Stevenson or Mayweather jr are great at evading just enough to not be hit but still be able to quickly counteract. Samart or Tawanchai are great Muay Thai examples.
