As screwed up as this appears to be the first half a dozen times you watch it, it turns out to be an excellent tutorial on replacing your locks in a 1997 Toyota Corolla and a 1991 Toyota pickup, even though the lock configuration is not exactly the same. the brilliant part is when he says that he installed the new lock into the door handle while the door handle was outside of the door. Tight fit, but can be done without removing the handle bar, which did not want to come out of its seat. Beats trying to do it with one hand up thru the door. The lock for the Corolla did not so much as snap into the handle as it just lay in it so dropping the darned thing into the door when you fastened the handle in place was a major annoyance. I had to do it 3 times. Showing the orientation of the lock was very useful and noting that the orientation is actually idiot proof, because of the shape of the seat, helped this idiot to do it right the first time. I watched several videos that did a good job getting the door panel off but were lousy at actually replacing the lock. I now have a good lock on my corolla driver door and one for my pickup passenger door. No, they are not the same so had to order two sets, and no, I was not crazy enough to replace the good locks because this job is really hard for a novice. So, yes, 2 keys for the pickup and 3 for the Corolla (the trunk cable is busted). When that gets too annoying I may just replace those good locks. Oh, the quality of the keys supplied with the cheap door locks is poor. I will be getting new keys cut ASAP.
Nice looking truck I have 95 reg cab. Do you mind sharing info on the air intake you have in yours, I installed one in mine and 2 weeks later got check engine light.
It will be very helpful to show how to place the lock cylinder in and how to remove it. My concern is that i was able to place the cylinder but when the key is inserted it pushes away. How to prevent the cylinder from moving away from handle?
Ginger P, after actually replacing a lock using his video, I understand exactly why he did not do it step by step. This is an incredibly ornery job to accomplish even though stepwise it is really simple. Tiny hands helped me a lot. Once you manage to get it in, by trial and error mostly, you are not going to stop and redo the sequence for a step by step unless you are a saint. I am thankful he provided all the information needed even if it did require watching and listening closely a half dozen times.
