This is such a good cooperative compromise that satisfies both parties desires. Glad they were able to negotiate instead of turning it into a fight. I took my husband’s last name and happy I did! It helps my maiden surname was so basic and boring lol

I was the girl who was so anti name change and here I am married for two years and no name change. When push came to shove I couldn’t do it. 😂😅

@@suslarry7 But we are not in Spain and yes a lot of cultures wives don't change last name but in the West we do and it is a gesture of love

@@Dhuxul9In the west? Spain IS in the west, it’s in Europe. And Spain is not the only example of western countries where women don’t change their last name after marriage, here in Italy we don’t do it either, it’s just not a tradition that we have, it’s pretty rare. And Italy is very much a western country. The same thing happens in the Netherlands, and in Greece it is even ILLEGAL to change your last name, even after marriage. Soo as you can tell many western countries have this tradition, and many eastern countries as well, in fact in Islam for example they believe that when judgement day will come, everybody will be called by their father’s family name, therefore it is expected for muslims, including married women, to keep their father’s last name and NOT take their husband’s. Changing your last name is actually mostly (but not exlusively) an anglosaxon tradition, that’s why is common in the UK, the US and other ex british colonies like Australia or India, but it is not something that happens everywhere or in every western country like you suggested.

@@Dhuxul9oh, and “we do it as a gesture of love” cit. Suuure… that’s why the US and Canada (another country were women take their husband’s last name) are 2 of the countries with the highest divorce rates in the world, with both being in the top 20, while Italy’s divorce rate is lower.😉 So the moral of the story is: taking your husband’s last name is not a universal costume, and women that don’t wanna follow it should not be judged, since they’re getting married and not adopted😂

Love that you kept that identity and he also. The downside to it is as a nurse the computer charts suck w a hyphen. Lol.

Actually this is the norm in Spanish-speaking countries. At least in Cuba, specifically. What typically happens is the wife will hyphenate her surname to include the husband’s, the children will receive both her surname and their father’s surname, but only pass down the paternal surname to their children. For example: Grandma’s last name is Gaz, Grandpa’s is Hos, so their child will be Priscyla Hos Gaz. When the child grows up and marries Anthony Perdomo Reyes, her name will change to include her husband’s paternal last name (Perdomo) and drop her maternal last name (Gaz), resulting in the name Priscyla Hos-Perdomo. Their future child will only take on the paternal last names of each parent, starting with the father’s. So, their child would be named Francis Perdomo Hos. Does that make sense?

@@africandream_... You mean marry her cousin?
@suslarry7
@suslarry7 4 месяца назад
@@africandream_are you not aware of cultures where women keep their last names like in spain, its not that deep, some people would just rather keep their family's identity with them. I mean even way back hem theres a time when last names werent even a thing for most of them world so its really not a big deal
@suslarry7
@suslarry7 4 месяца назад
@@africandream_ exactly so my point is you shouldn't ridicule women who decide to keep their family's last names cause it's not like there's some law hat says all women should take the man's name, people choose what they want and what works for them, and it's not that deep
