@@SailingUma Fine Cabinetry in a house or a boat will follow similar principles. While I can agree that everything "should be" able to dismantle, the practicality of commercial construction doesn't allow time spent on those fine details. [add] By rebuilding the interior, you get to choose what is hidden and not. I like how you are able to take things apart. I'm a designer too, and a builder.

Love the evolution of the show. The more popular they get, the more sponsors , gifts, etc. Since they are on a budget you can't blame them for getting upgrades. As for the boat or future boat, why not, if you want to sail the world you want to sail in comfort and safety. I am no sailor, if they decide to cross the Atlantic would it be better to do it with another boat or boats or do people decide to go at it alone on their first time?

Had a C-172.....they are great fun but one cannot go anywhere without burning fuel and they are too small for habitation....unlike a sailboat :)! I enjoy watching you two renovate your ship....it always ends up better than before. I've been trying to decide what the best head for me should be and so I'll be all ears. The Wynns like a composting head but right now I'm with Dan....too hands on. I think the Coast Guard requires that a lockable 'Y' dump overboard/holding tank valve be locked to the tank while inside the three mile offshore limit.

@flyingdutchman6984

It is the electricity that is the main concern with incendiary toilets as the burn chambers often require a minimum of a 120v 15a circuit. Many marinas I have stayed at couldn't even come close to supplying 15a on shore power and no way I could flush without running a generator for the toilets 60-90 minutes cycle time. There also needs to be a vent installed which can be problematic on small vessels.

It is going to be interesting to see what solution you come up with to make the head legal in U.S. waters. I found a c-head in the trash years ago at a marina and have been using it ever since. Separating the liquids and solids is what makes composting toilets work. Anything else is just a bucket of poo and dirt.

I find it interesting. When I had my boat on the Great Lakes, anytime I did work on it at the dock I got watched like a hawk. Cutting ANYTHING near the water always had the local water police saying "keep that out of the water". Fiberglass was a HUGE NO NO on the water. I did work on my dock to put a step in (water levels were getting high, and the 2-1/2 foot climb to the get on the boat was way too much for my family. I've watched you guy paint on the water (oh hell no in the Great Lakes where I am, and so much more that you'd be told NO. most of the projects you did would have REQUIRED a pull-out on the hard where I am. Yea, lots of projects were never done on my boat because of that. Don't own her anymore...really don't miss her. If I want to get back into boating again I can get a boat tomorrow.

Got a partial refund. about 3 weeks after I got home the Captain of the sailboat sent me a letter. yes that long ago. saying thank you for the help and that there was a blockage in the lines. which was cause because of lack of maintenance.

Enjoying your channel. On this topic, haven't seen many sailors talk about ventilation in the head. Is that not common (unless the head has a window to crack)? Have you seen any sailors with incinerator toilets?
@SailingUma
@SailingUma 3 года назад
Most heads have a hatch or port that opens. Ours has a soffit vent. As for incinerator toilets. No, not on boats. They make sense in cabins or in an RV, but on a boat, it's just a very complicated solution to a very simple problem easily solved on boats. Besides, they require WAY more power to operate than most boats have available.
