I AM NOT A PLUMBER.
After having various plastic uPVC "Y-pices" / joints break over the years and having had numerous floods in the kitchen due to this, I decided to replace my "Y-piece" with something stronger. Since there does not seem to a be purpose made part on the market, I decided to build one from a coupe of parts.
The parts used were all bought at Screwfix. I have listed them below along with their part numbers as of 14th Aug 2013.
www.screwfix.com
L-SX Sealant: part 23614
Appliance T - 15mm BSP (3/4" x 3/4" x 15mm): part 24030
Straight Tap conn 15mm x 3/4": part 36420
15mm Copper Pipe:
Tube Cutter 3 - 28mm: part 49428

great video thank you . I am moving house so today I looked at the washing machine and dishwasher and under the sink to suss out what I would need I figured I would need a brass y piece I had seen on e bay I tough would be the job but was not sure about the waste water pipes as I only have one outlet for waste water . I went to the small plumbing supply shop today he's a good bloke and not too expensive but he had no brass y pieces . I got a white plastic adapter to fit 2 waste water pipes on to one outlet pipe off him and pretty much what you have above plus a brass joiner as the hose that comes with the washing machine is too short there is an existing hose there . as I was cleaning out the attic yesterday I found a short piece of pipe I will need and had kept it in case he told me I would need a short piece of pipe I was lucky I found it . I have a basic knowledge of plumping . I was looking for a plastic y piece then instead of the brass but he said they are useless and don't really suggest using them because the mains pressure bust's them . so I will be doing a bit of plumbing I have installed heaters over offices years ago so I am used to it . good job I watched your video It reminded me need to buy some plumbers grease or what ever too

Did you say you are a plumber at the start and then say you are not at the grease part?

hey just found your video Im moving house and need to fit a washer and a dishwasher lol Iv never done this before and im guessing from what my landlord said that the pipe needs a Y fitting for both just like you demonstrated thanks How did you proceed with your waste pipe im getting mixed reviews about removing the ubend and replacing with the double ended ubend with two outputs. Iv never done this and would appreciate your advice on the waste pipe like and subscribe thanks bear

Hi your video is great, so pleased to have found it as it makes me think my idea might just work. I fully understand how your not a plumber but I wondered if you could give your opinion on my idea as you seem really knowledgeable in this field. I want to install a shower into my bath. My bath has walls to three sides. The taps are to the right with a traditional hot and cold tap and a mixer telephone shower head hose attachment thing. I have a window positioned on the length of the bath but unfortunately its toward the right hand side (Tap end) so I cant use the right hand side to either install a shower or use the shower hose that is already attached to the taps. So on searching the web for a solution I came across your video and thought it maybe might fix what I want to achieve. My Idea is to place a compression appliance on the hot inlet and one for the cold inlet too. Run one feed from each T to the taps. Then the other hot and cold feeds from each T would go under the bath with some plastic pipping and come up through the left hand wall to install a mixer shower. The bath taps and shower do not need to run at the same time but they do both need a water supply so that they can run independently. Would this work? Your thoughts would be much appreciated. I'm lucky that my bath has no slope on the left hand side so standing at the supposed wrong end isn't an issue. I also happen to have a brand new mixer shower in my garage that I was kindly given and would like to ideally use. I also have a spare couple of tiles to fill in where I would come through the wall for the water feed if I was to break any. Thanks Susie x

I was hoping you’d shoe how to cover the water pipe as well? As there is only room for one.

I’m doing the same here! Did you use compression reducing couplers 22 x 15mm to connect the appliances hoses in?

Hi just wondering, would you apply the same device for the waste pipes as well. Trying to see if I can do my own dishwasher and washing machine rather than hiring

Hey Bekki. I wish I could give the you the answer, but I don't know is the honest answer. My gut says yes, but my knowledge is not good enough to say yes. I did have an issue with the waste pipes of both my machines in the past. The hoses kept sliding off the Y piece. I solved this by using a "hose clamp" over the y-piece and the hose, to tighten them, so that they cannot move. www.amazon.co.uk/Hose-Clamp/s?k=Hose+Clamp Anyway good luck.

Are the Y-pieces completely unreliable then? I'm about to install one but should I look at this option instead?

David , the plastic y-piece is okay, but will eventually leak. Had two in ten year, and this is a better (more solid) option. [Reason I found this vid]

hi are we not forgetting a check valve
@johnbull5394
@johnbull5394 9 лет назад
Probably not. Most washing machines incorporate backflow protection. As such a check valve is not required in the pipe work.
