I think for 3+3 headstocks, the rule would be 5, 4, 3, 9 ,10 ,11. Basically mirroring the clock on the right side. Makes sense to me anyway. Might need some adjustment depending on if the tuners are in a straight line(gibson) or an angled line(PRS).

Watching having to go thru the back makes me love my wrap around bridge even more. Playing an Epiphone Les Paul Junior with Ernie Ball Slinky 11-48 stainless steel strings. Good watch for when i can order my locking tuner. Slowly modifying my LP Jr one part at a time

yes you can because there is no way you can pull the string tight enough by hand beyond the lowest note you would tune the string to.

No, you would. When you put the string in the lock, although there isn't slack, it is still more loose and low than anything you'd ever drop to. Plus once the string is stretched out, there will be even more slack (if you were to loosen it again). You should have no problem dropping to any tuning.

When you're stretching out the string you're diving the trem which slackens the tension, seems pointless. Good video though by the way.

@@katryanaorange2092 To stretch the string after replacing you need to add extra tension which is the exact opposite of what this guy is doing.

When you tighten the string down, isn't there a problem with grip on the string? Seems like if you bent a string hard, it might slip?

I try to do mine so that I have 1/2 wrap to no more than 3/4 wrap on any string. I have had the 90 degree wraps let go before.

Should I stretch the strings before I lock the tuners? Or lock the turners and than stretch?

As soon as string is placed thru tuning post, you are Locking it in place. Then you can Tune-up and start to gently stretch. I repeat this process 3 or 4 x's and you're usually good-to-go.

Should you have to change tunings, will you have to change strings, or will you be able to tune up or down a half step without fussing with the locking tuner?

you could and that's as far as I think you could go. I would only try a half step, but don't quote me on that.

Why would you not just put the strings straight through, lock them, and start turning? Isn't the whole point of locking tuners to minimize string windings for the sake of tuning stability? What you are doing makes no sense whatsoever.

Yes but alot of times they tend to slip due to human error. Lock them too loosely. Too tightly etc. Hes basically showing how to get them intune quickly as possible. Ever noticed when you change strings they become out of tune alot and youre constantly tuning? This method is helping you be able to change strings and start jamming/recording without having to return everytime you do a few bends.

B standard is standard tuning on a 7 string so yes you can

@@shaneleclaire6912 it's not too different from having standard tuners. The only difference between having locking tuners is you're gonna have to leave less slack when restringing which makes restringing alot faster

what if it's a reverse headstock? do you go 1 2 3 3 4 5 instead? or do you still follow the steeper angle on thinner strings?

Might be a little late, but just applied some clock logic restringing my Strat and determined for a reverse headstock, the clock increments (from Low to High E) would go 7, 8, 9, 9, 10, 11.

Why would you not lock the strings tight until after you've tuned and clipped them? This makes no sense. Why not lock them down before you start stretching and tuning and then clipping? I see no advantage to only tightening them part way and then tightening them tighter afterwards
