Hello mate coming to this in March of 2023. This video has given my old as the hills pedal a new lease of life big thanks for taking the time to do it!
Thanks for the video. I purchased a GT-6 when it was first released. The reason people lose their user presets when changing the battery is that you only have a very short time to put the new one in. I can't remember how long exactly, and can't find it on the net anywhere, but it was only seconds. I always had the new battery ready to go and never lost my user presets. Hope this helps.
You're awesome, thanks so much for doing this - I thought it would be pretty straight forward, but I really appreciate seeing inside before I crack it open. Also, I feel like an idiot because I had no backup and my GT-6 was warning me about low battery for months and I ignored it, then I turned it on today and it said "no battery", "factory reset". I thought I lost all my patches. Luckilly I left it plugged in (for no reason) for a few hours and then turned it off and on again (accidentally) and all my patches were back!! Pure luck. Needless to say I've backed up my patches and am doing the battery right now! Thanks again!
Hi Greg, thank you so much for this easy to follow video. Your instruction is so easy to understand that I would like to make this my one-stop source for all things GT-6. It has always been difficult finding "meaty content" for this unit. That being said, would love to see content showing you setting up things like your own custom patches, how you setup the 4-cable method effects loop, how to integrate other effects pedals with this one (i.e. - where in the chain to add a Boss 7-band EQ, compressor, etc.) Keep on keeping it real. Thanks again,
Just tried this with my gt6 with the power on and all presets are still there as normal , thanks for the vid gave me the push i needed .it was showing a battery low when first switched on i also dusted with a soft brush and a vaccuum
hey thanks for posting this! I just changed the battery in my GT-6 and freaked out a bit when I turned it on the first time and had all the strange characters....I thought i'd killed the unit somehow. But after watching this, I scrolled up to p36 and found all the factory pre-sets working fine. Thanks!
wow.. my GT6 it's still working up to now. but seeing this video,, i think have to change the battery right now.. thanks Greg for this video and for the info.. 👍 "2032 coin style battery"
Hello Greg, Thanks for posting this. I've used my GT-6 for over 12 years on guitar and bass. Changing the battery with the unit off appears to cause loss of all user presets. It looks like the user presets are no longer there when you power it up. I'm going to change the battery in mine while it is powered up. I previously backed up all presets doing a MIDI Sysex dump just in case any data is lost. I may post an update after I change the battery. Thanks
How did it go? Did you keep yours powered on whilst changing the battery or opt for the quick, non powered switch over. Did you retain your patches? I've got to replace my battery. ..
Good job, shed some light on something I didn't even know was an issue. Had mine for twenty years and recently got it back out, fortunately it's still working, but now I know what to do if I get that message. Can you recommend a Librarian (Windows) for the GT-6. Had a copy of GT Manager but wasn't impressed.
I've owned mine since it was released aswell but no idea how to use libraries. Saw an old video yrs ago but never tried. Would LOVE to know how. Cheers 🍻
hey dude, found your vid because i just had to do the same thing in 2023 (bought the pedal in maybe 2000?)... battery lasted a while i guess.... anyway, when you turned it on it said "value locked"... i have the same thing when i try to spin the wheel that goes through the bank of presets.... so basically can't scroll through anymore using the wheel how did you get rid of that block?... i lost my original paper manual that came with the unit
Good morning.. I've replaced the battery but every time I turn on the pedal board always ask to reset the software and start again, so I can create any sound or other, because I'll lost everything again turning off .. someone have something to suggest? Thank you
Cool man, cause I bought some days Ago This Bass fx processor e o cara que me vendeu, o Márcio Souza do OLX, Uber lá do PArá, vendeu uma dessas sem bateria.. E pintura toda ruim, por isso o preço baixo us$145.00 mas é f... O cara podia estar me avisando. E ainda enviou sem nenhum plástico bolha. Poxa, é f...
we did the same thing to my bandmate sir.we changed the battery, after switching on,the display has been changed after showing the boss gt6 model.how to restore it sir?
Pls help bro, my gt6 is going up and down voltage after switching on. I would have benefited a lot if you could show me the adapter you have. Or if you could tell me the amount of voltage, it would be very helpful for me.
@@GregTalksGuitars so 20 years lost of set ups and fine tunings to make it sound just right with my Amp. Nevertheless thank you Greg, you are a Hero, I think you just saved me some bucks, I want to change the battery nonetheless and now I can do it myself with no worries. Take care!
My gt 6 will automatically function by its own. Like the overdrive/distortion on/off will automatically show up on the screen. What do you think is the problem on this case.
Not sure what that would be. If your settings are staying saved then I would assume the battery is good. A switch dirty or failing? Sorry, that's beyond my expertise.
@@renzbadon5129 I had the exact same problem in my boss GT6B the preamp would come on and off by itself at random basically what I did was completely disassembled it blew it out with air and electrical cleaner and now it’s fine something is making the switch contact and that’s why it’s doing it by itself most likely dust or dirt
