Are my eyes playing tricks? I've watched about ten of these British guard changes on YT and that slow march step. Some of the soldiers just put their foot slowly ahead and step down. But others do a slight two movement hesitation step almost like a muscle cramp in the ligament or twitch in their step. Is that taught in marching drill? Watch a couple of these vids and look closely. You will see I'm right.
Yes I know what you mean. On a slow march, you slightly lunge your body into your step which is why you see a slight 'twitch' in the march. That is the correct practise, however some don't lunge and just step normally, which is just down to them and their own practise (but it's not correct in the book). Sometimes, especially in the band, they don't necessarily follow this practise as they're busy focusing on the music, so in that case, the lunge of step is the least of their worries.
@@leobruce7196 It is meant to be two movements , foot projected out in a flick forward , as the guy below says ,toe slightly out, gives you some balance for the second movement of the glide step. I don't agree it is upto them nor the "lunge", it is all to do with the leg , the upper body should not move from the vertical -ie lean forward. You never have your own practice in the Army. You practice this , it is automatic. Cheers
