Tips to make replacing the HVAC mode module easier. If your hearing a buzzing sound on startup coming from your dash or air not coming out of some of your vents this will be the remedy. Part number on the package is 87106-35120 Servo SUB-ASSY

Thanks for posting this! I just did this on my son’s 04 GX470. The bottom right screw that goes from the servo case to bracket was tricky for me. I found that unscrewing the 2 accessible bracket screws first was important. That allowed me to pull the bracket up so I could access that bottom right screw. Also, I installed the white plastic “wheel” first, and then attached the servo motor. The key is to pay attention to the orientation of the wheel when you remove it. Even if you don’t though, it’s easy to see how the wheel will need to sit in relation to the half moon connector that is on the servo motor. I found that it was MUCH easier to attach that wheel to the 3 arms FIRST, then connect the servo motor to it. At first I connected the wheel to the servo, and it was very difficult to get the arms in the channels. At first I thought it would be a guessing game to figure out which “channel” each arm should go into. But if you look closely at it, it actually is evident which one each should go into. Thank you again, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to do this job without your vid!

Chris, my wife's 04 GX470 won't blow anywhere but the face. I have been looking everywhere to find what part needs to be replaced. Was your issue with just the selecting the mode of Floor/Vent/Defrost and if so- what was the name of the piece you replaced to fix it (some "Servo" or one of the 3 "Actuators")? thanks

Unscrewing that upper second screw on the bracket is probably the most frustrating thing i've ever attempted. Thanks for posting this btw.

The buzzing has been an intermittent problem for a couple years in my 03' 4Runner. It acts worse in the extreme heat of Arizona summer. For the most part the function was still there, it just buzzed intermittently. Then on a 100 degree day, I lost the ability to direct the AC to our faces and it was hot as hell. My wife was in the car and started talking about selling my precious (260k and going strong)! Hopped on RU-vid and found your video. Thanks! I've been trying to figure out how to change this part for two years. Nothing seemed reasonable to try at home. One video I watched drilled a hole in the AC duct work where the cabin filter sits in order to get the last screw. Your method is totally doable with patience and standard hand tools. Once unscrewed and disconnected, I found it easiest to bring the old module over the top of the bracket. Brought the new one in the same way. I got it all aligned in the white linkages before screwing it back in. Thanks!

I used a tie wire through top somewhere across the door tracking plate and tied it tight then used hot iron to burn a hole in cabin air cavity to access straight to the hidden screw. Once all screws are out then use flat screwdriver between motor and guide plate to pop it off the actuator shaft(wire holds plate in place during switch out. reverse procedure.

I wonder if a flexible screwdriver shaft and a right angle adapter can get in there for that 3rd screw. Are you in NC? I see your Hatteras and Uwharrie videos. I've biked the Uwharrie mtb trails. I did an adventure race out there and we hiked some of the ORV trails. Would a slightly lifted t4r do ok on those trails?
@Salty_reviews
@Salty_reviews 2 года назад
Even with that it'd be very difficult to get to that screw without seeing it. I am in NC over in the Piedmont. I'd say a T4R would be fine on any Uwharrie trail that doesn't start with the letter D with a small lift. I actually also have a Tacoma with a 2.5" lift and it gets me around quite nicely.

In my 4 Runner the air works fine, it's just that there is no air passing through the cabin vents.

I'm working on this issue right now on my GX and it looks pretty much the same. I may have messed up and disconnected the yellow air bag connection and all other connections when disassembling. I heard that could be sketchy and maybe I needed to unplug battery prior? Do you have any thoughts on what to do now?
@Salty_reviews

I didn't unplug the battery when I did the job, just made sure the ignition was off and the key out of the cylinder.

I don't know the start position, what do you recommend to install in sync? Also I can't find the part number for temperature - or I do but the blend door pops up if you happen to have it. There is nothing on the drive side at all... So now I am tryin to figure out what the hell to do... was your heat working or A/c and was it both sides that it worked on or just one? instead of buying the entire 200 dollar module, is it possible to just buy the 35 dollar servo motor and put into the existing metal bracket?

If you can disassemble it and are good with electronics then yeah. I will tell you that mine is a 2006 and that old plastic is very brittle, tabs and such that hold it together break instead of bend when trying to pry things open.
