CHANGING THE LINE OF SUCCESSION? | The Sims 4: The Royal Family | Season 2 Part 92 

I COMPLETELY forgot to say this in the video, but thank you to those who left comments on the last Royal Family episode! I’ll try to respond to as many as I can, but I likely won’t be able to get to most of them. But reading everyone’s favorite Amira moments was such a nice trip down memory lane🥺 thank you all for sharing and for your kind words🙏🏼❤️

The succession plotline is SO interesting because of course we're all rooting for Sahar to get a place in the line of succession but if adopted children can succeed, could expecting parents potentially rush to get their children adopted by royals in order to get ahead themselves? What happens if Sahar ever DOES meet his birth parents/family... would his priorities change? Would that cause a conflict of interest? I feel like it's not just a tradition and a bloodline thing but also could open the door to a number of conflicts in the future.

If Arya gets her way with the succession it could lead to not just public outrage, but full on anti-monarchism, because if someone who's not of royal blood can break the bloodline of monarchs, then people could start thinking if anybody could become monarch then why do we need a monarch / why do the royals deserve to rule? or could lead to a coup from a legitimate person in the succession. SO much drama!

I feel like I could write a dissertation on this episode alone 😅 Oasis Springs: I think while Arya wanting Sahar to be in the line of succession is nice, but it's also a dangerous game to play. Arya isn't only just wanting to undo years of tradition, but she could also cause a domino effect if she does undo the line of succession. She could risk her relationship with Manuel and Priya. She could possibly influence Ajay to fight for the title of Marquess of Oasis Springs. She could damage many relationships if a distant cousin + Sahar marry and possibly produce an heir vs. those of the actual bloodline who stayed in their place and did their duty because that's what's expected of them. What if any of Adrian's mistresses decide to reveal the true parentage of their children to get a place in the succession? IT'S GOING TO BE MESSY. And let's say this happens. Sahar is not going to have it easy. He'll have to face immense scrutiny since he's not of the bloodline and every single act he does would be viewed more harshly compared to any other heir. And whose to say he even wants to be an heir? And this act could make Arya unpopular to her people. If Arya does such a thing, she better get ready for the consequences to follow. Windenburg: I think AM is doing the best she can but wow, this meeting went left so fast! I can see Jonah being a bit frustrated of DQ attending the meeting because of the politics. Windenburg & UKSD are close due to the family relations, but maybe one of Amira's siblings should've showed up instead. Peter is a prick but AM can't be throwing drinks at people lol. I could see Peter being a huge influence in Windenburg politics, even if he retires, since he could represent a lot of the traditional and wealthy politicians that have a grasp on Windenburg society. It could cause some trouble for AM and could make her an unpopular queen during her first few years into her Queenship. But I am hoping she learns to channel her anger in a productive manner instead of throwing drinks lol QX: The mod looks great! I knew Akio and Kaito would start to grow distant so I can't wait to see how the father-son dup interact in the future. If Guang Xi or Qin Xing and Sulani come together, it would be quite interesting to see how their cultures come together. Why do I feel like Izumi literally has to push Akio out of any room since he gets into so many arguments 🤣 But I can't wait for future videos! Great job!

There is an unbelievable amount of potential for drama not just within kingdom politics, but also within Sahar and Arya's relationship all depending alone on whether or not he'll even want the throne, there's so many ways that this could go, whether it's strong resentments or determination or even complete apathy, this is bound to be really interesting

I personally don't think it's a good idea for sahar to inherited the title of crown prince. To undo the line of sucession can go wrong in so many ways. Even if he marries someone from the blood line he still isn't apart of it and there are many sims with a stronger and more legitimate claim to the throne. For as selfless as Arya thinks she is being she is in fact being really selfish, she tryin to change the rules, the tradition, just because she wants something. Honestly the way I see it she is putting the whole family at risk, and the monarchy. For as powerflull as the Queen is, this can make it so people, and nobles get angry and discontent enough for more drastic mesours to happen

I kinda feel like mannuel should be part of the conversion around sahar being heir, since it will affect his family.

I feel like a lot of royalists would be opposed to Sarah getting a place in the line of succession, to ignore centuries of precedent could put not only the monarchy in danger but also its relevance in question. really interested in how this plot line will go, amazing episode as always!!

Regarding succession, in modern day, there's also WAY more to it. The royals can't just decide to give the throne to someone outside the family. I don't know if you consider Oasis Springs at total monarchy, or if its closer to monarchoes in the real world. Because if its the ladder, politicians would have to be accept the non-bloodline succession as well. And also the people of the country shoudl be okay with it. I just want to point out. It's not just the monarchs decision. If they just dictate that he's to be heir, there could be a huge backlash. But again, that could lead to some very interesting stories in the future. :)

Can you imagine if Caspian was in that meeting? 😂 He’d be torn between holding back AM and fighting that advisor himself 🤣

Oasis Springs: I don’t think Arya realizes that she’s playing with fire here! Monarchy hinges on the divine blood right of the royal family. How can Sahar justify his rule if he doesn’t have the blood? I can easily see people be enraged by this. “This kid was picked up by a princess now he just GETS to be king?? Why not me??” It’s fuel for the revolutionaries! He needs to marry someone with a better claim and rule jointly (William and Mary co-monarch style!) otherwise someone may say they have a better claim or the family could lose their titles overall!! Windenburg: He is coming at this with the completely wrong reasoning, but I think Peter might be right here. Why is a royal from another royal family meddling / so involved in the politics of another nation? Familial ties aren’t always enough to keep peace. From his view, I completely understand how he could see this as a UKSD takeover with the amount of influence the UKSD royals could have over AM- a young and impressionable queen. We know the UKSD royals are good, but does Peter know that for sure? Also it is ABSOLUTELY Jabari’s responsibility to be there! I’m honestly appalled that he wasn’t. Yes he lost his wife, but his daughter lost her mother, and she doesn’t get to say “not today thanks!” She has a country to run and her father should be there for her!

As I writer I have some interesting theories 1. I know this a long time of but I feel like Sahar will turn round and say he doesn’t want to be king. I think that could be really interesting especially if the Ariya doesn’t have another child. It’s happened in real life history of England (where I’m from) meaning a different royal family line begins eg Tudor to Stewarts. I think it be really cool if it were to happen even in any kingdoms where there is dispute over the next monarch and there is no direct heir but I think Oasis Springs has the opportunity to do this now. 2. I think AM is coping relatively well. I think it be cute if she had a dream of Amira telling her she can do it maybe this could happen before the coronation like AM could be worried she isn’t ready and wont be a good queen but Amira makes her believe in herself 3. I’m not quite sure how old Zaori is supposed to be but maybe she could end up with Prince Felix or Cambridge depending on what her future preference is cuz they are Charles’s kid so I think it be ironic kinda like their parents didn’t get together in the end so they will 😂 4. If Sahar does end up being king and getting married Lady Catalina who is Naya’s great nice and similar-ish age. Also Fredricks and MG future kids could work they are technically from the Hsu line. I’m finished for now bye ❤

Loving this series so much! AM sticking up for her Dad was awesome! Poor little Sahar, hopefully everything will work out well for him when he's older. And loving little Zaori's storyline. Can't wait to see where that goes.

I feel like maybe Whitacker and AM were both kinda vying for control of the room. I can totally see Whitacker being butt hurt about how problematic he saw Amira being and he may have wanted to try and establish himself to Alice May as someone who always knows best, even over her. Alice May, having now met people who play power games and now learning what to look for, seemed to catch on rather quickly, Whitacker wasn’t expecting, given that she’s not only so young, but in his eyes hasn’t been able to recognize her own responsibilities as heir. (I’m mainly suggesting he thinks that way due to AM’s previous experience with depression and being with Caspian. I can see Whitacker looking at both of those parts of AM’s life and believing she wasn’t ready) AM, realizing this is a power play, subconsciously asked herself what her mother would do. She’s heard stories of how strong her mom was and has seen it first hand. She’d never let anyone put her down, let alone her family. When Whitacker gave that final remark about Jabari, that was it, and while AM realizes she may have needed a bit more tact in that situation, she wasn’t about to let another man make her feel like she’s worthless and incapable. 😍 our baby’s grown so much!!!!

And I completely get if Sahar does not want to be the heir too. I eventually do want his mom and grandma to talk to him about it.

I agree with fellow commenter gbemigreen1386 with a lot of their points on the episode overall in all areas 😊 My thoughts while watching: Arya's handling of the line of succession could really cause some issues and open up a huge can of worms - I see this storyline as the potential to reward longtime watchers of the series, especially if this digs up Adrian's mistresses and their offspring. Devils in the detail as they say! And I'm ready for some TEA 🫖👀 Sahar is none the wiser - he is so sweet! I hope he doesn't take the arranged marriage too hard when the time comes! 💔 "I have dealt with a rotten fish don't make me deal with you too" OMG THAT TOOK ME OUT. I had to stop to process that one! 🤣 @alicessims did such a great job on that palace omg! 😍

Oasis Springs: Love how they are always forward with succession with first child being heir/adopted child being heir. Windenburg: AM thinking she was being a girlboss. I personally think Zamora would calm AM down. QX: I think Zaori would be friendly with anyone that she meets. Aiko and Han are my Roman Empire now 😂. Question: will Tai arrange Shen a marriage?

Really love the more frequent episodes!! I really love this series, so seeing the eps popping up in my subscriptions always makes me happy. For the succession thing, I totally see what other people are saying, but I personally think that just because something might have some possible negative consequences, it doesn't mean we shouldn't do it! Especially because adopted children should be treated equally to biological children. I understand it still might not be plausible, but maybe AM could end up getting her degree later in life (once she settles into her role as queen more). It would be nice to have a portrayal of older uni students!

Also, there's a mod, that forces sims to stay seated, if you need it. :P It's by Amellce and is called Steady Sit & Seat Any Sim

It is a fascinating dilemma one is in here, because the dilemma is based on a question that many nowadays find archaic, the blood relationship. Emperors inherited the throne based on heavenly edicts given to their ancestor, obsession with sacred bones, kings were anointed by god, other monarchs were descendant from gods, some kings were gods, and they are kept within the family because of the grace given to that blood. Many Norse kings of Norway claimed to be in some way related to Harald Fairhair, First King of Norway (it's complicated), in order to pave an easier path to the throne when they coup'ed or took it. Children having to pay for the sins of their parents. The royal Hanover dynasty was considered obsolete simply because their regnant was female and thus all her heirs were of the father's dynasty, and so on. So much fascinating trouble and issues have risen in history due to blood inheritance that I am always fascinated when conflicts arises with it. I mean, Sahar would inherit personal items and fortune from Aria when she passes, because that is part of their private affairs (mostly, I'm sure some of the crowns and other items have significant implications that demand caution), like any child when their parent passes. It is just that the throne is not a private affair, it is not just a fortune or trinkets being passed down, it is, in some cultures, directly related to the bloodline, and if one first challenges the idea that the blood doesn't matter in that situation, then one also opens the can of worms of whether the royal family matters at all. Aria says Sahar should inherit the thrown because it is the modern day, but by that definition, should there be a royal family in the modern day? When will that line stop? (I bear only love for my royal family and I do not want the Norwegian monarchy abolished; it is still a question and debate that will and should rise in our real world) In some way I could understand her if Sahar, when older, expressed his wants and -capabilities-, like how King Henry changed the laws when his oldest child showed potential and will to be monarch when his oldest son did not want to be; I cannot imagine him doing so if he felt like Amira did not have the potential and will to work for it. I guess it is one of the few areas where I find myself at an old-fashioned standstill myself; because I have not seen it happen, I find it thus hard to imagine it. Is this how the old generation felt when they changed laws to allow complete inheritance? When royals married people not of royal or noble blood? It is weird yet fascinating to be standing here, not quite young anymore but not quite old yet, at a crossroad and wonder which way will change by the future generation, and which road I will find myself having chosen and how far I have walked that road by then. - Considering she is not doing it because it is something Sahar personally feels, for me it also looks like Aria is trying to overcompensate for him not being her biological son, or being unable to give birth to an heir herself, by trying to remove these lines in the sand regarding blood relations. It is not enough that he is Aria Hsu and Gabriel Hsu's child in paper, or that he will inherit their things and private fortune when they pass, or that their families accept him as theirs, or that he is given a prince title and will definetely get a noble title when grown; if he was her biological son he would be heir, and so he MUST be heir. I wonder how open and secure she feels about him being adopted, if that is something she celebrates or something that she wants to hide and pretend is not there. These are just callous thoughts from someone who is not adopted and did not grow up in a community where adoption is normal, though, looking for drama where it might not be. The sims definetely make enough drama by themselves, haha. I look forward to see where this goes. And to be a weird, I don't find it necessarily weird or bad if they did decide to arrange a marriage between Sahar and Manuel's children; they are not blood related, and they are young enough that they can avoid them growing too sibling-like relationship, with the expectation that they will be married. If they are going to arrange or even force a marriage for Sahar in order to easier legitimate his future heirs' claim to the throne, then they might as well make it as easy as possible by making him marry the one closest to his age with the best claim to the throne. Otherwise I feel some family feuds might rise up, and Sahar will have an easier time as heir and king (or king co-regnant?). Anddd, there the Sims are at it again with their monkey shenanigans XD That meeting would be a total disaster in real life, because asshole that he might be, Peter was right about his concerns regarding Zamora, as in that setting she is first and foremost a foreign political figure that just based on protocol shouldn't be there, and a grandmother second who STILL shouldn't be allowed to be there. And in the end, if Peter decides to leak this, he can make it look so bad; he, a weak old man, after a lifetime of loyal service to two monarchs, is humiliated by the new young queen's tantrum in front of his peers for showing concern about her mixing private and national affairs, and she now tries to bully or throw him out of the position when he was about to retire in honour and dignity. WE know AM isn't like that and that it was a bout of depression (and monkey-shenanigans) when a guy was being needlessly mean in a meeting that honestly should rather have been postponed if she needed Jabari and Jabari wasn't ready, but the public, or the other politicians in the room (and the future politicians, in particular Peter's successor) have gotten a very intense first impression of the young queen. I mean, the sims are monkeys, but I will give them that, they cause wonderful drama XD To be fair, Araminta and Han's arranged marriage began toxic due to all the scheming and war threats behind it, as well as the familial abuse they both suffered that they found common ground and support in and that it made them better together, not worse (still thinking about the hot mess that would be Cornelius and Anya, haha). I am sure they would make a list of what they liked and disliked about their arranged marriage, and use that to best look for a good match that will be good partners to their children both at home and with their royal duties and better relations with other nations, or their own people. Fun episode as always, I like this nice balance between planned storytelling and observing (and enabling) sims shenanigans. Made me think more than I thought I would do tonight, haha.

Okay, I would like to play devil's advocate here because I think the Peter advisor was right in that Zamora shouldn't have been in that meeting. I love that she went to support AM, especially since she also aided Adric when his father died too. However, Zamora's duties lie with the UKSD, not Windenburg. Sure, she is AM's grandma and would never use any meeting knowledge against her but it is a matter of protocol, there is information that shouldn't be divulged with other Heads of State, it doesn't matter if the countries are in good terms. For example, the US and Canada are countries that are on very good terms but it would be innapropriate for the Canadian prime minister to attend an american meeting that has nothing to do with them. Don't get me wrong, I think that man is an insensitive jerk but it is a bit disappointing seeing how the commoner characters that oppose the thoughts of the monarchs are framed as villains in your stories. Same with the reporters. They were definitely sneaky and nasty but let's imagine those events took place in the real world. Imagine if suddenly an American senator (I'm using a senator as an example since the US doesn't have a monarchy) was found out to be hiding the illegal acquisition of dangerous goods by one of his relatives. That's a massive abuse of power. People would be rightly outraged. We, of course, know that Leilana is a good person and wasn't truly aware but her actions make her seem extremely shady. I think making those reporters as people that want to take down the monarchy simply just a bunch of aholes is a massive disservice to your story, especially knowing how much effort you put into making the royals seem like complex people. The oasis springs storyline you are doing is great for example! The conflict with Han and Akio also seems super interesting. What I mean by this is that, even if that Peter guy is horrible, a broken clock is right twice a day. Putting valid criticism in the mouth of a character that is simply meant to be hated and dismissed is going to harm the overall story and kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Why would we as an audience empathise with the royals if whenever someone points out their abuses or mistakes in power they are immediately shut down? I hope you know that this criticism I'm making comes from a good place. I've watched your series for a long time and go to your streams so I'm certain you know I love your content and will keep watching. And I hope this doesn't come across as harsh. A critically aclaimed show that I loved, Downton Abbey, also does this a lot, to the point that I started disliking it. This goes to show that I don't think your writing is bad at ALL, you definitely tell stories better than me and, if a show like Downton Abbey makes that mistake, you are allowed to make it too. Regarding the rest of the episode, I really liked it! It is interesting to see how grief is manifesting in AM, and Arya's dilemma. Is she right in doing the change or is she pushing for things to go her way? What would Sahar want? Naya's temporary solution seems very elegant but as other commenters have pointed out, changing the line of succesion could spell TROUBLE in the long run. I'm hooked. Sorry for the lengthy paragraphs lol. Love your content!

Personally, I dont think Sahar should be the heir in such a "tradicional" kingdom (in the way that people probably wouldnt let him lead/be king). And not being heir could open a bunch of other histories for Sahar. He could have a history about his biological parents, he could be a rebel and decide that he doesnt want to an arranged marriage, or he could be a machiavelic sim that wants power at all costs and would do everything ti get it (lying, ending other sims, marrying into other kingdons)... Other thing... Maybe Arya is being kind of selfish in this. She knew when she adopted that Sahar wouldnt be the heir. And now she wants to change the rules? Its no fair to Manuel, Prya, the kingdom and even to Sahar. It would be a lot to out in his little shoulders. Maybe she could have clear and healthy talks with Sahar while he grows, and he would undestand (all the other royal childs undestand, and even if they dont, its okay to be frustrated and worked this issue out). And if its okay to pass Manuels and Pryas "birth right", why she doesnt pass her birth right, and abdicates? She wants it all, with no consequences... Or maybe just marry Sahar to Prya and he could help lead the kingdom (I know he is yonger than his cousin, but why not?) 😂 Idk, just thoughts... perhaps I talked too much 😅

I think AM should consider a cabinet change for her reign once the mourning period is over. Perhaps she could appoint a new royal advisor? Someone she knows will be truthful with her and fair to the other cabinet members. Someone new from Parliament or something

I kinda think Arya is noble in doing this, but it will probably blow up in her face. Honestly she should have just lied and like he was her bio kid. She could have stayed out of the public’s eye and told people afterwards. Ex: Reporter : “is it true sahar is adopted?” Arya: “ nope I just didn’t show much!”

It's been a while since I watched your series because ngl I fan girl when I heard my name as a Sim 😂

I love monarchy/politics drama! The arranged marriages! The council meetings! The succession!

I was wondering if Arya would convince her relatives to abdicate because Giselle is 30th in the line of succession and it would stabilize her right to becoming Queen and as Sahar and Giselle ruled together it would be like a similar situation to Queen Charlotte and King George but reversed. Though instead of Giselle having any mental health conditions she would just stay away from the public eye and Sahar would do her royal duties in her name so she would be Queen in name only while Sahar took care of the official duties. I was also wondering if Sahar would be King Consort or Prince Consort it would be interesting for him to take the title of King Consort to show he has a little more say than previous consorts. I also think Arya would try and bribe other people in the line of succession which would help Giselle but also put the Oasis Springs royal family in significant debt.

I believe there’s a mod that helps to keep sims to stay seated. You can find it as “Steady sit & Seat any sim” I’ve watched another simmer play it and it works for them! And it would work perfectly for royal meetings and such!

I feel like maybe Peter views Kellan in a bad way,maybe he thinks Kellan is a wuss for letting his sister be queen when him and his son could of been king and prince.

Regarding Oasis Springs, Hopefully Arya fighting for Sahar to be put in the line of succession doesn’t become like King Jarrod marrying someone without royal blood or lineage. Plus, I don’t think Sahar would like the idea of being forced to marry someone just because his grandparents or parents say so, kinda like Johan and Amira.

HII Rae i know its not related to the episode but what titles will dowager queen Evangeline get now thats amiras gone i was just wondering bc in some contrys if you have a dowager who seen 3 generations on the thone (so her husband,child,grandchild in her case step) a queen dowager will be called a grand queen dowager as of jabarie already holding the title 'dowager prince' and there can only be one dowager that is a widow or widower of the late monarch meaning that if you have a widow or widower of the late monarch before the late monarch they will have to resive the title grand queen dowager or grand prince dowager and same applies to Empresses (dowagers) and Prince imperial consort (dowager) im so sorry if thats confusing but that im trying to say that Eva should get the title Grand queen dowager You dont have to its just for title accuracy so thats my recommendation and btw amazing vid as always and RIP amira we still miss u ❤

You could have Alice May hire a personal Royal Tutor to help finish educating her within her schedule? Kind of how season 1 of the Crown the Queen gets a personal tutor to educate her?

Plenty of places have elective monarchies instead of male preferential primogeniture, Marrying Sahar into the house would be a good idea, if there weren't other perfectly legitimate options that wouldn't cause backlash from Oasis Springs populace and the nobles in particular. The princess can still do IUI (science babies are like artificial insemination) or just choosing a candidate from a different line. If Sahar was made heir, he would always have to fight for legitimacy because he is adopted. The only way I see him inheriting is Sahar marrying into the line next closest to inheriting the throne.

Fun fact! Swedens royalty has adopted heirs in history. But it wasn't a child, it was an adult. Karl Xlll of Sweden adopted the 47 year old Jean Baptiste Bernadotte around the 1800 hundreds. Karl didn't have any children of his own and Jean was a prominent french supporter to Napoleon. He was chosen as the swedish crown prince and is the reason the royal family of Sweden now has Bernadotte instead of Vasa as a surname. So Sahar being adopted and becoming crown prince is not impossible!

Episode Thoughts: Windenburg: As soon as Alice May threw the drink at Peter I thought, “YASSSSSSSSS, QUEEN!” 😂😂 on a serious note, I think her depression looking more like anger is so real. After everything from Kaleo, to a car accident, to the death of her mother, she’s had A LOT of trauma back to back in a very short life. I can definitely see her entering a “The Old Alice May can’t pick up the phone right now” era. Just the Royal version of no fucks left to give and anger as a depression response is incredibly real. Caspian & Cedric are like true brothers. They have my whole heart. So pure. 🫶🏾😭😭😭 Oasis Springs: SUCH an interesting storyline. Also hope the baby’s POV is considered as he’s older. But with Naya mourning I thought for a moment she may have even been looking at how Amira’s death was so sudden & imagining a universe where that happened to Arya & her son was left with a kingdom that technically found him illegitimate. That’d be so hard. So I’m really intrigued to see the OS kingdom’s response. Will his betrothal to a blood royal be enough? Or will there be folks in the press that feel Arya’s line should be skipped altogether in favor of her brother’s? (Could def see some sexist folks leaning on that aspect). QX: The mod is really cool! But also Han & his brother!! 😂 Akio: *breathes* Han: *TRIGGERED* Zaori is so precious to me. I wonder if Han is lowkey jealous of his brothers closeness to his daughter? Like “Hey, that’s MY kid!” 😂 But also I’m so glad Zaori is learning martial arts not only for self-defense but for the confidence. I can also see why Akio’s kids may be a bit jealous since he doesn’t have any daughters of his own, right? So it’s like a new experience for him where he may be hard on her but also giving her a lot of attention & really cares abt her wellbeing as a future heir. ❤ I LOVE your storytelling. Can’t wait to see more. Hope you, Jake, & Bubbles are well. ❤
