Changing The Radiator in The C230

I guess it's time to introduce the new daily. It's been months since my last post, I figured it was best to drop something and start the new year. I recently purchase a 1998 Mercedes-Benz C230 off marketplace and I've been slowly cleaning it up. I'm not sure if I'll be keeping it long but in the meantime there are some things that need attention. With all the love I've been getting from instagram, I figured it wouldn't hurt to show the journey with this car on youtube. It has definitely been growing on me. Watch as I swap out a leaking radiator and do some minor cleaning. I also meet with Arnold, my Mercedes parts guy, to get what I need and to go over other missing parts.

I have to the exact same car except my car is dark blue I owned it 4 years and only had to change brake pads once tires once and a wiper motor that's it and now a radiator being 26 years old with only 165k miles on it must say it's the best most reliable car I ever owned appreciate you filming the radiator replacement looks pretty easy to me hope we get many more miles out of our Mercedes they're were well built back then thank you again for the video happy travels my friend

Thanks bud, sadly the trans seized and I mistakenly sold her a few years ago. Looking back, I now realize that was a huge mistake. It was such a solid car, great on gas and ppl really respected it. As you can see for me atleast, it was very easy to work on. Now that my most recent Mercedes is also gone. I'm not against getting another, sadly I can't find the number of the person I sold it to or id try to get her back :/ regardless I will own another Mercedes again, hopefully its a w202 again.

Pretty sure I may account for at least 10+ of the views on this awesome video ;) . Used this as my guide to replace the radiator in my wife's 99 C280. Her's is the V6 but thankfully the radiator, hoses, etc. are all super similar to the C230. Really appreciate you making, editing, uploading, etc. this as these cars are becoming less common on the road. Relying on 9+ yr old forum posts is not nearly as helpful as a well done how to video like this!

Wow, that is awesome to hear. I didn't think much into it and simply wanted to document the process. Now I wish I kept it and went through the headache of fixing the transmission. I do have a how-to on replacing the PS pump I never put together but hearing this has motivated me to do that. Just being able to help one person is more than enough. I too I've learned very quickly there isn't much info on the Mercedes because most owners just took them to the dealership. I'm glad you got it fixed and thank you for sending me the comment.

Literally thank you, I have my aftermarket radiator coming in on Wednesday. Made me see how easy it is. What do you use to clean? I wanna clean my car but am scared to wet the engine (it’s my first car so I don’t really know much) what psi do you use and what cleaner?

You’re welcome!. Looks like I need get another one of these lol. For cleaner I used purple power degreaser. If you want something weaker you can use dish soap mixed with water. As for pressure washer, technically the weaker the better. Mine is 3200 psi so it’s overkill and I have to be careful when using it. Just don’t over blast one area esp the alternator, coil packs and other electronics. They can get wet but you don’t want to blast water on em for an extended time. Use the 45 degree (white) nozzle as it’s less harsh. I’ll be doing a engine clean on the Honda project soon so I’ll make sure to detail the process for you.

@@charlesboulay8303 I miss it so much. The transmission seized up out of no where, I regret not fixing it. But, getting the newer w203 c230 with the 6speed manual was a pleasant replacement, so I'm not too upset. I love the car!

@@richardmasonhughes At Mercedes maintenance they tell me the transmission is for life you don't change the oil .....big mistake I insist and they change it ........good for you if you find an other one
