As someone who was also forced from their home due to wildfires this year, I can relate and sympathize. Yellowknife is a great community and I hope everyone stays safe as they make their way here to Alberta... Welcome!

When I was younger, the house I was living in caught fire. I stood across the street watching everything I own going up in flames. Just my girlfriend, my dog and the clothes on our backs. We were both in school, so didn't have any money saved up for rainy days. The only thing government aid did for us was put us in a cheap hotel room for a week with meals. After that we had no where to go. An instructor at the school and her husband invited us to stay at their home and rounded up some extra clothing for us. We were ever so grateful for their kindness. It took a long time to get back on our feet, but we got through it. I thank God for the goodness we find on this planet.

Does anybody from Yellowknife know how far it is by road to the next town? Europeans dont believe me, they think its just few km "with fruitstands and cold beverages along the road"
@KumariKumari-fw7nc

I think 750 km..
@keith6706

It's about 90 kilometers by road to the next community, the village of Behchoko, or continue along for another 103 kilometers to the town of Fort Providence, and then 677 kilometers to High Level, Alberta. You pass a couple of hamlets which are nothing more than a few houses along the way. That gets you about halfway to Edmonton by road. Hay River is just off to the side along that route but, of course, it's evacuated as well. Or, let's put it this way: ask them how they'd feel about driving from Paris to Frankfurt, with maybe one place to stop in between for fuel, on a two-lane road and no place to get anything. That's a *shorter* trip then for the people who drove out of Yellowknife.

I tried to explain this to Germans, they just make a fool out of me. They think its like in Europe and one guy actually called everybody a fool who lives more than 10 km from the next store. Oh well.

@@Lucysmom26 Wildfires are getting bigger and more intense - and are burning in places never seen before. A big contributing factor is global warming drying vegetation and soil out, and creating more combustible material.

Ya there's something going on with a " China laser"I heard anyway lol. Who knows these days lol just weird how there are pics of lasers coming from the sky before it happened. Then the one next province over in Quebec Canada started like 100 different places all at once. There was a sat video of it on here.

Premier was more concerned about the drugged up homeless, because the ones that are actually trying to get their life together were leaving by plane. While consequently forgetting about the 20'000 tax payers that were panicking because no one had info on the evacuation. They kept it all secret until the last moment. She is disconnected from reality. Her action caused uncertainty and panick, she should be ashamed of her incompetence. Homeless even had alcohol service from yellowknife, on the plane, to edmonton or calgary. If they would of advertised free booze, she wouldn't of had to drive around to find them they would of showed up for the booze.
