I fritted the night away at your door,
Did my plea not reach you?
Sahibo lagai chani kudraechi yanne wuchmai nooraan chon,
Chani noorukh chum talab yaechi aawaz waechino.
Lord be I sacrificed on your splendor,
since I witnessed your splendor
I roam yearning for that splendor

Kenzi barmai sarey neamachey kheni sahibo aahaem ne zanh,
Andh kun chass mandcheymechey aawaz waechino.
I hoarded all the delicacies in a kyenzi*,
yet you never deigned to come
I lie ashamed inside my room
Did my prayer never reach you?
bael baeli mayi pakke yaechey gael kaetya samsaaran,
Kuman soorchan gachaan myeachey aawaz waechino
Friend, dear friend, don’t strut thus,
how many were consumed by this world!
how many pretty faces were ground to dust!
Did my plea never reach you?
Mehmoodo duniya sann chey saath saath par istighafar,
Kael samkhav qayamaechey aawaz waechino.
‘Mehmood’ contemplate the world, and seek forgiveness
Perchance we might meet of judgement day
