Perhaps people simply like to play a MMO RPG that is not a button masher with no class fantasy. That is what retail is, every class has the same kit, but with different visuals and the goal is to mash as fast as you can. Classic has been insanely popular (albeit with some ups and downs in popularity) since it launched. You are completely mistaken thinking only boomers are playing it. Fact is, alot of the players that would be nostalgic to this game, are not playing video games anymores, atleast not MMO RPGs. Blizzard would not have made SoD if it wasnt because classic had the numbers going for it.

​@@MrBa143 Every class doesn't have the same kit in retail. Saying they do really shows how little you know about the game. There are several classes that are not meta simply because they don't X in their toolkit, or others who are meta because they have Y in their toolkit. I play warrior in Retail and i'm literally not brought to high end m+ because of my toolkit.

@@Torswan A very small percentage of the retail playerbase is doing high end keys aswell as high end raiding. The small differences makes a difference in that regard, but for the "90% of boomers", its the base game we are comparing. You have a more fast paced version which is retail, that is arguably a button masher game with minimal core differences between the classes, compared to classic. Classic is a way more laid back and socially engaging version of wow with way more class identify / fantasy. Yes, saying every class has the same kit in retail is objectively wrong, but the game has been balanced to the point of every class being ALMOST the same with some minor differences, and you cannot deny that. The only exception to this is the augmentation evoker which fills a new unique support role in the game with a slightly different playstyle / feel to it. Almost all classes in retail can be specced into having 4+ cc's. They all have interrupts. All classes have AoE cc variants, which was very limitted in classic. There were simply a bigger difference between the classes and more niche uses / identify. Its not a coincidence WoW had a completely different feeling back then and was crowned the king of fantasy MMO RPGs, even though we already had some great games prior to WoW.

I had a blast in hardcore, but SoD just feels like a watered down version of retail without alot of quality of life improvements. If you have trouble seeing this truth, then I don't know what to say. You do you, enjoy what you enjoy, have an adventure, be happy. @@MrBa143

All specs in retail have decently complex rotations and you need to press abilities at the correct time to be effective. Classic on the other hand you have MOST specs which cast 1 ability (frost mage, fire mage, lock, sword spec rogue). How on earth can you say retail is a button masher game when classic logs will literally have on guy mashing 1 button for 3 minutes? "They all have interrupts." No they don't all have interrupts. Priest does not have an interrupt. Many specs you have to talent the interrupt as well and forego other utility. Retail specs have vastly different playstyles from resource management like arcane / feral, CDR/buff management classes, dot/bleed management, or static CD based rotations. Classic is laid back, I'll give you that and is what I like about it. Its a good RPG but a shit MMO. It is not more socially engaging in the slightest. Most of the player base have sacrificed all social skills in pursuit of min-maxing their 20 year old game so they can finally prove to themselves they aren't dogshit when really they just play 200x more than the next guy pressing their 1 button rotation with less WB/consumes. There is 100% more class identity in retail than in classic lol There are like 10 expansions of class specific content to do and learn about. The spell animations, the armor, the lore is 20x the amount in classic.

yeah i was thinking about getting into it but only on pve server because the pvp looks so ridiculously fried
