Ann Bishop and Mike Schneider co-anchor the Channel 10 News at 5:00 PM from November 18, 1985.
Top story: Hurricane Kate threatens Miami.
The coverage: Dr. Neil Frank tracks the storm, Molly Turner shares hurricane prep tips, Don Noe updates weather info, Khambrell Marshall reports on sports, and Dr. Red Duke explores the history of anaesthesia! (Don’t ask; you have to see it.)
Featuring original 1980s commercials including Puffs tissues (“The softer way to blow”), Toys ‘R’ Us, Walgreens photo finishing, Express Mail from the Postal Service (filmed in Miami!) and “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous!”
It’s a packed half hour, from hurricane coverage to school lunch menus!
Subscribe to the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives’ RU-vid channel and tune in to the fascination and fun of Miami and Florida’s past, captured on film and video and preserved by the Wolfson Archives at Miami Dade College.

I lived in South Florida around this time and they used to tell us to tape the windows in case it breaks it will stay together. Afterwards it was hard to get it off the windows I remember years later seeing tape still on it around the areas.

Interesting to see the old superstitions (taping windows, opening a window to equalize pressure) still being presented as accepted preparation advice. It took until Andrew and later for them to truly get debunked.

Skated through the Straits, grazed Cuba and sailed in the Gulf. A front pushed it into Florida south of the panhandle three or four days after this newscast.
