The fact that Vincent Chansard rather puts out his amazing high-quality cuts on a weekly anime like One Piece over this season of JJK says a lot. Vincent is an incredible animator. His cut here and his cuts on One Piece are amazing.

I’m suprised you didn’t mention mahoraga swimming up the building. I thought that cut was hilarious and amazing.

An absolutely amazing episode. If only it could have been fully perfected with a more stable production. I am scared for what these next episodes will look like. I would much rather have them delay the episodes and make them high quality, than something which is unfinished. People would understand and wait. Releasing poor work would just damage the series. Pay the money for new TV time slots. It will pay off in the long run.

Regardless of what the intention was or the inconsistencies from a critic's perspective (which are completely legitimateto point out), I actually quite liked the weird, unstable shape of Mahoraga throughout.

HoneHone animating the destruction of JJK's production office was the best moment of the episode. R.I.P Kazuto Arai's, Souyama's, Takuya Niinuma's and Sunako's chairs.

I feel conflicted about this episode. On one hand it’s easily the best fight in the series, but on the other, imagine how amazing it could have been if they had more time.

The ghosting was so bad especially for Vincent's scenes, why is it that only jjk gets ghosted and dimmed this much. I sometimes notice dimming in other anime but not to this degree

I swear if Mappa don't fix this terrible schedule especially not finding a way to seperate the 2 high profile shows from seshimo. I'm gonna lose it like that guy from greatest freakout ever video.

The fact that people like Vincent will never work on JJK again hurts me. The people who worked on this episode deserve a second/better chance on this product. I mean as a fan of JJK, saucelot needs to come back for Sukuna vs Gojo, mainly the domain battle section of the fight. I can't even fathom Infinity vs Dismantle/Cleave animated by him after seeing Mahoraga walking through malevolent shrine! It's such a shame what Mappa is doing because they're losing talent and taking away the hype of JJK's most famous arc. For the Culling Games to outdo this, is almost impossible without this staff and the necessary time.

The "what could've been" episode

The episode was insane, as an artist I can't imagine the amount of hard work these fantastic animators must have done to achieve such level of skill and knowledge, its a shame that they weren't given enough time to work on the episode, but it still looked so amazing!

I was litreally waiting for your video, I know the condition of mappa or I should say jujutsu kaisen crew is detoriating but they really cooked in this episode, the visuals, the effects, the bgms were all so good. I hope they get time to give us these type of good episodes back to back

I never thought about animations and animators a lot before, but after watching your videos of animation breakdown, I've started to appreciate the amount of efforts put in to create these insane looking episodes. So, thank you and keep making these animation breakdown videos.

I think the mob psycho art & animation atyle helped this episode to hide it's inconsistencies bc of the gritty nature of this style. If it was polished art then it would've looked way bad at some places. Overall it was a good episode with a handful of shortcomings. Even the director said they could've only deliver 70% of what they envisioned. So instead of nitpicking let's appreciate the animators for such a marvelous work in such a short time.

I think it’s important for you to point out the flaws in this episode; even if the end product does look great. The fact that it is great, and so many of the Rawls are hard to notice without this level of scrutiny, is a testament to these animators insane skill. But the fact those flaws were so numerous regardless, all the unfinished drawing and missing cuts, is a further testament to how much those animators need a break. I truelle hope they take that break after this episode.

11:23 this was the part that made me do a double take because the rest of the ep was so top notch. it looked like one of the looney toons frames on the naruto vs pain fight which does make me feel like it was a stylish choice to convey the chaos.

The thing is that I don't think that people actually understand what even are they criticising. For example, I have seen little to no criticism for the start of the episode, which was reeeallly unpolished. But since the drawings barely move, and have "details" (however bad) its all good. The parts that are getting crucified are unfinished, I agree, but even finished the storyboards would be the same. Sometimes I think that for the upcoming eps they should simply put coloured manga panels with transitions and the majority would be happy. Also massive emphasis on the fact that every single moving element including characters, background, people, effects etc etc are ALL PART OF THE ANIMATION.

How are you going to gather an impossible to get group of people on one project and not even let them finish their work. This is literally something that shouldn't exist (like you said) and the fact it does is just unbelievable. Some of the best animators this planet/history has seen can't see their full potential. :(

Why do animators make the uncessary things 2D like the cars or tables when the time can be spent on the charcters?

I literally haven't see any anime episode with such an ambitious storyboarding and action directions, in many scenes movement in of the surrounding objects was done flawlessly, really awesome, can't imagine how good the series can go if given some time, I wish the series gets delayed to deliver mind-blowing animation, well done every single animator!!

The cuts that were dropped from this anime were a crime some of the most incredible sequences Vincent animated were cut out of this episode entirely

Considering the atrocious production of JJK S2, it is likely that many of the talented animators who worked on these episodes will never return for future JJK projects, this may include series director Goshozono, and not just JJK but possibly any future MAPPA anime, which might include Chainsawman, Vinland Saga, (rumoured) One punchman S3 . Unless the production situation improves, if such production cycle continues, the future of MAPPA will be at stake.

even if it was unfinished. this was by far one of the best episodes of anime i’ve ever seen. the storyboarding was insanely creative & they added so much. i can ignore 10 seconds of jank if 90% of the episode is pure eye candy sakuga lol. i really hope they get a delay. for their sake & for the sake of the quality of the project. if episode 18 does come out next week, half of it is going to be still frames.

I like *some* scenes of Mahoraga looking rough, but you can definitely tell they were incredibly stressed for time in many shots. Despite that it's better than most animes even for their worst shots

We are living in the one timeline out of infinite timelines where JJK season 2 wasn’t objectively one of the top 10 greatest productions of all time, due to like, one decision made by one man over two years ago.

Hopefully when this get released in blu ray or some other form of alternative media we can get the fully cleaned up version of this fight.

It pisses me off so much that JJK is MAPPAs flagship series, yet of all things isn’t granted enough time to be perfected. The business should and has to be around the anime, not the other way around. It’s ironic of me as an american to call the CEO of MAPPA a capitalist pig. It’s the Shibuya Incident, such a big turning point of the story. JJK deserved better, the animators deserve better, screw MAPPA as a company.

All love to the animators for blessing us with this heavenly ambitious work. I'm praying for a long hiatus for their own well-being (though let's be real that probably won't happen). MAPPA shouldn't be focusing on quality AND quantity, but solely on quality. Art takes *time* and it shouldn't be rushed. But unfortunately, MAPPA's CEO and executives' greed blinds them from seeing that.

I saw on twitter where animators posted some of the genga that was supposed to make it to the ep but couldn’t due to no time like build up to simians drip kick or certain transitions. Do you think it’s possible when the blu rays are out,aside from removing blur and ghosting and improving artwork ,they’ll add the genga in the scenes they didn’t have time to do?

I've never been mad at a studio this much.

Perfectly flawed is how I saw the episode. Janky here and there but amazing experience on the whole. The one bit that really felt random was the airplane falling from no where. Seems like they just threw away SB chunks in that section because it felt like there was so much context being missed in that cut.

if i could wish something, i wish that the BluRay version releases this episode the way it should look originally (i know, probably wouldn't)

It’s such a shame that they have such tight deadlines. Something truly needs to happen right now to save the project because I don’t believe that the rest of the show will be able to have decent quality based on all I have read.

This aspect ratio wasnt 2.35:1. It was around ~2.20:1. If you screenshot it and look up the pixel ratios its slightly less wide than cinemascope. You'll find the usual 2.39:1 widescreen has thicker letterbox bars than what appeared in the episode.

How much can be done for the blu-ray release of this episode?

I honestly do not know how to feel. The sheer atmosphere and consistency of last season was so good, and I wish this season followed suit with occasional moments of absolute insanity like this. I just wish this was more polished. But of course it is still insane. Just upset for missed potential not from the animators but from MAPPA's admin.

It is obvious that it wasn't good - but it had some insanely good scenes. This is no doubt a consequence of the tight schedule: a secularized work distributed among the animators to finish on time, the direction almost absent due to the lack of time. Some sort of Frankenstein, of parts attached one to the other without much regard to their actual synergy. A properly worked-on episode would have had a more even style and quality and would have proven to be the best one of the season, fitting for the major names working on it, but even something consistently mediocre is better than something alternating between such highs and lows. I cannot bring myself to see this episode as a success, although considering the schedules it should be called a masterpiece. This is truly the fall of Mappa.
