Come on, John, you are my favorite by far. I have to watch your video's everyday. He was right next to the horse the whole time. There was an incident with tourists and the gatesman when he checked on the boxman when two tourists tried to take a picture inside the box, and they pushed them out, then this asian man came and stood against the guard, and he and the horse pushed him out. The guard said, "What's your problem?" it was a proud moment..... Bravo soldiers WOO HOO!!!
Buska has that recorded , they pushed between the gatesman and the horse so the Trooper moved his horse forward quickly ! If they had brains they'd be dangerous 😂
That 1st Guard on the left is My Favourite. He's such a nice Guy, He's everything You said. He's professional but warmhearted at the same time. Loving Your videos John.
My favorite foot/horse guard, starting his rounds at 25:53 🥰🥰🥰I've said it before, even though he might have sounded aggresive this time when he had to shout "Make way" on both sides, when "short-visiting" his colleagues, on his 15 minute-rounds, but i've seen him on multiple occasions, and he is most patient and kind when doing horse guard. Even on this occasion, as you very astutely observed, on his last round, he was pacing very slowly in short steps, as opposed to many of his colleagues who walk faster or in larger steps, and i think he does this to give tourists time to notice him and get out of his way. And he almost always "short-visits" both his colleagues, left and right, on his 15 minute rounds (as he did now)😊 I wonder what they're talking about on these visits. I bet it's about the latest events involving funny and/or obnouxious tourists🤣🤣🤣🤣 He always checks the reins, the stirrups, dusts something (invisible) off the horse and/or his colleague's cloaks or boots🤭 Thank you so much for shariung these moments with us. I absolutely love your imaginary dialogues between guards or tourists or tourists and guards, they are so hilarious🤣🤣(i often do that, too)
Yes John, a horse that plays with its bit can dribble and froth. And before anyone starts moaning about the “cruel” bits, his rider only has contact on the snaffle rein and even there it’s very light. He’s just playing and chewing on his bit. Lots of horses do it.
Also, if this horse is younger than the other horses we've seen - it's possible this one does not like the bit. I had a horse that didn't like his bridle & the bit. As he got older he stopped chewing on the bit.
I wish the Horse Guards Museum would print a set of greeting cards or calendar with Rob Pointon's paintings on them. I know they'd sell out in a minute but I'd like to get either for here in California. Love your videos.
I like that you deliver a knowledgeable commentary for all your videos... Most of the others are just silent or with background noise - Nice to have an inside track on the proceedings - Thank you !
Horses manufacture that foam to help them digest. And thank you for two lovely videos this evening although I'm still watching. You and the lovely horses were missed yesterday.
Absolutely love watching your videos- you are the best one out there - And you make us laugh - some of the things you say - - we watch you on YTUBE- From Debb and Eric (Melbourne- Australia) Keep up the great work- you were made for this - 😀
Question: Do the guards ever get shin splints when they stomp their foot? First time I saw them do it, my shin automatically hurt. Another question: How do people recognize you? Someone walks up and tells you they follow you like in today's video so was wondering how they know it's you? Would you turn your camera around so those of us on the far side of the 'pond' can put face to voice? Another question? Who puts the subject line on the videos? On other ones I've watched, the subject line is so dramatic that I just have to watch. But I can watch the whole thing and never see what they were talking about. I'd watch yours no matter the subject line ... I much prefer your videos.
John, I'm addicted to your channel with your giggles and the way you spot the funnies. I look out for you and don't bother with the silent videos. December, with no horses, is going to be so boring. There were a very loud bunch on this video. I slight shock would be a perfect deterrent on that chain. But what about when the chain is removed for changing. I'm always surprised there aren't more nippers. These crowds must really irritate the horses. Bless you for a lovely video.
that white nose/top lip is so darned cute on that horse xoxox...and yeah sometimes i think a lil zappy zap would be priceless to see lol...except it can be dangerous for some people and i wouldn't want lil kids accidentally touching it...i'd so love to be able to watch the horses all the time xox thank you for giving us this experience - even from afar xoxo
Crazy - at what point is there too many people to manage and control. People pushing for a picture when the guard is checking on the horse and guard - the people are so disrespectful!!
Today was roughly 80% capacity compared to July and August. The crush back then during peak tourist season was quite remarkable (and actually quite fun 😂😂).
@@kln58cub Absolutely- having served in the military myself. (USMC 22 yrs). If I were in command I would keep the barricades up and the people away - it’s not a photo op but most all think that it is. They can look from a distance. The people/tourists are so disrespectful.
I recognise the Gateman from when he's been on Boxman duty. Nope not a Batman theme but a Prince theme. Damn I wish the Gatesman or any of the foot guards would shout at the disrespectful tourists to move right back out of the way when those private conversations are taking place. Laughter when the couple and babe in buggy couldn't find their photographer for a second... sweet. I enjoyed the Gatesman time he must be a great conversationalist. Horse Guards can trust you John... ka kite stay safe and well 👋
The powers that be should not allow the rudists to be near the boxes during inspections since there will always be those who cause problems. Seeing some of the behavior makes me embarrassed for these people.
In my own opinion their behaviour is "offensive " and totally out of order. I wonder if they would be allowed in their own countries or towns in this countries to behave so badly?
Highly doubtful, I know they on holiday here, but, if they show respect to their own army etc , they can do it in our county, Some countries I'm in no doubt, you disrespect their horses, army, guards , probably few years banged up, few lashes, if your lucky Then they come here, some of them are fun to watch, but others, the utter disrespect they show our Kings Guards and Horses, makes my blood boil
Can you show us the painting I'm interested to see it finished. The horse on our left is so placid ,so beautiful,I remember when they bought the horses down here to Cornwall for a holiday and a swim,it was really exciting, I'm sure they don't take the horses to the same location all the time for security? Thank you ☺
John, it is a British millitary building and should have a flag overhead. Most of our Canadian military buildings usually do, or did when I lived on base.
Hi John, one of the guys I was talking about is at 27:49. There is about five of them coming and going every day. This guy changed his hair style. They are around taking video just about everyday. The hair stands up on my arms when I see them on video.
Yes John i agree with you 💯 its about time they had a short sharp shock morons!! It makes my blood boil when the gatesman comes a talks to his college and the people crowd round him to get a selfie 😤 so disrespectful you don't know what they are talking about i think its most rude. Another enjoyable video John Thank you for sharing ❤🇬🇧
Hiya john...really enjoyed ur coverage of remembrance sunday.. Ive missed few videos work been hectic, something to do with thing called Christmas 😂😂😂🎄. Sorry to hear you mention that horse guards is closing for renewal work in December, so no christmas pics 😒, never mind, sure its needed. Take care, stay dry n warm, Catwoman.
In the United States, a flag flies every day flies on our homes flies in the center of town’s all the government buildings fly our flag the American flag flies very proudly in our country. Yes, we are the new country or the New World from England but a flag flies very proudly I don’t understand why the union jack is an always out there when the king isn’t in court.❤❤
Those are some beautiful, looking horses. The lifeguards are riding and looking a lot similar to the royal guards horses lately they have some pretty massive, looking horses. definitely would not want to get hit by one of them walking by or even getting pushed by one. Do you know how those crazy Tourister they want to get as close as they can and some of these horses just don’t like tourist😂😂❤❤
John, once again thank you, thank you, thank you. Love your informative videos. Do you know if these magnificent horses get R&R to run and roam and enjoy being free and if so how long do they get. Would love to know if possible. Many thanks.
Horses foam sometimes even when their mouths are closed and they rub the lips together the saliva has something in it. General this is agitated into foam because of the chomping but it’s not because they are disturbed and they usually wipe on their legs hit it gets a bit excessive but because of the bridle they can’t easily do that. Mine used to really foam up as he was chasing a polo mint round The guards will know if it’s a major drama if needed. And generally the horse will lick it up on their own.
We went on holiday one year just to get away from horses, arrived at the hotel, and there at the bottom of the Gardens were the horses from the local Riding School!
Say "Cheese!' 😅 I love Mr. Pointon's work, but can't afford it. Besides, hubby wouldn't like it. I had one my great Aunt painted for me of the horses in the field behind the house, (loved it), hubby took it into the office and traded it for a cheapa## print of a dump of a house. I was a bit upset, to say the least. Thank you for sharing so much of the fun.
Please don't fry the chain..it is innocent! However, I vote for a shocking surprise to be sent to certain tourists. Snaffle..my newly learned term. Missed ya'll and hope none of ya'll catch this flu. Thanks, John, for the uplifting vid!
He might be a bit thirsty😅 but he might just be playing with the bit because he’s bored or reasonably at ease.! (There are other symptoms to look for if you get worried about it). But stop making predictions about good tourists as it is ‘hatcheting counts before they chicken’ ! The tour guide actually told them to move for the guard to come through! They are probably happy they didn’t come yesterday when it was pouring Think about kids coming back to school after their holidays. (They need to be settled in to concentrate again) There was a programme on channel 5 the other evening showing horses being looked after in the stables and the troopers talked of some of and how they rehearsed! I wonder if that was the tv team you saw the other month!
Hi. I love watching your videos. They are very informative. I live in Australia and can’t travel that far, so you make it feel like I’m there. Very much appreciated. I do have a question for you. I’ve noticed that all of the horses have a small white mark on the inner part of both front legs just above the knees. Could you find out if that is a branding or something please?
Do you know if there's a horse memorial somewhere? Not a statue with someone on horseback, just the horses themselves. Many horses have died in service to their country, they deserve a separate memorial.
The horses thar died along with the troopers in 1982 bombing are commemorated on the monument opposite the back of horse guards. There IS a memorial to service animals somewhere can't remember maybe Catterick or Aldershot
The Animals in War Memorial on the grass divide for Hyde Park carriageway in London. The memorial was built to commemorate the countless animals that have served and died under British military command throughout history. I found it a beautiful and powerful memorial when I visited. Just wish it wasn't in the middle of the carriageway, it was very noisy. I looked It up, it was designed by sculptor David Backhouse and opened November 2004. Anne, Princess Royal was there to officially open the Sculptured wall with bronzed figures..
Is it weird that the one thing I think in situations like that is “oh god that’ll be DESTROYING the finish on his boots….that’s gonna take AGES to bring back poor bugger”
One thing I notice is that when the foot guard comes out for a welfare check on the mounted troopers... If the mounted trooper needs to speak to the footguard, he/she will go from at ease to 'carry swords'.... Seems to be a discreet flag for priority attention...?
Unbelievable tourists are laughing at the Guard because he had to yell. I don't think tourists get it the Guards have to yell or the tourists won't hear him.
