This film is based on the book about Vasili Ivanovich Chapaev (1887 - 1919) who was in real life the Commander of the 25th Division of the Red Army. Chapaev is an uneducated peasant and a decorated hero in the World War I and later in the Russian Civil War, that followed the Russian revolution. This man of action is fighting on the side of the poor people. His troops consist of peasants, just like him. Unable to write, he can brilliantly demonstrate various battle tactics by moving potatoes on the table. He is street smart. He never lost a battle against the experienced Generals of the Tzar's Army.

I love this film. I've lost count the times I've watched it. My first time in 1959, that I remember. Excellent direction, acting, technique and sound for the time, 1934, when the international sound system in cinematography was in its infance. Being a socialist myself, needless to say, that I enjoy it even more. p.s.- Its preservation, fortunately, is superb. Long live the Russian Soviet Revolution !

@CAVKING19DELTA TEXAS Learn a difference between communism and socialism. Also seems like you don't understand the context pushed Mao into having to kill some people in cultural revolution, but it was kind of worth it. Also thats other topic than Gulags. Also, socialist countries was more successful than capitalism, say Cuba, USSR, SFRJ, Makhnovtchina, Manchuria, Zapatista, Aragon... Only their socialist period (some went capitalist afterwards), and results relative to point where they started, they became more developed relative to rest of world.

Such a big prison, the Soviet scientists got sick of being trapped and built rockets that could reach space while the Americans enjoyed the freedom of banning evolution and other sciences in schools because it made Jesus mad.
@Tamara-yc8ho
@Tamara-yc8ho 3 года назад
@@UntrusiveThoughts The soviet government used scientists as slaves. I would tell about the death of Serhij Korolyov. I think it will be enough. The official version conceals certain details, which, in fact, were the cause of death. During one of the interrogations, an NKVD investigator struck Serhiy Korolyov in the face with a decanter, resulting in a large-scale fracture of the jaw. In the camps, the bones fused incorrectly, causing the Queen's jaws to no longer be able to fully open. Due to these consequences, during the operation Korolyov could not be intubated urgently - that is, to insert a tube into his trachea for artificial respiration and to maintain the level of oxygen in the blood. Most likely, this is what led to an increase in heart failure and subsequent death.
@UntrusiveThoughts
@UntrusiveThoughts 3 года назад
@@Tamara-yc8ho Wow, what kind of made up BS is this lol? Korolyov was already quite unhealthy towards the end of his life, having had a heart attack as well as abdominal cancer and hemorrhoids. There was no guarantee that even intubation would've saved somebody who was quite literally on the cusp of dying due to ill health. Spare the BS for people who aren't going to fact check your ranting. I'm more than familiar with the ineffectual "debating" methods folks like you think is clever.
