Chaplains Could Soon Be Placed in Texas Schools as Kids Grapple Mental Health Crisis

Texas public schools could soon have chaplains to help students deal with various life issues.
State lawmakers recently passed Senate Bill 763 which allows religious chaplains to work in a counseling role. The measure is now on Gov. Greg Abbott's desk awaiting approval.
Under the legislation, chaplains would have the ability to function as a mental health resource, help with suicide prevention and provide behavioral services for students in public schools across the Lone Star state.

Separation of Church an State. You can't reintroduce God, as before because the damage has been done. Different times, we aren't in 50's/60's. This is going to cause more problems. You need to reinforced the transition slowly by "The Population" of the people. Not by the interest of these corrupt officials for the sake of keeping their Blood NRA money free for all Texas Guns. Ever heard of trying to do right thing ? You cause an even bigger issue ? It's also Parent's fault.

Wow. This is crystal clear. Help , hope and guidance is being offered? The schools have been proselytizing school students with LGBTQ+AI for decades without Parents knowing it. Parents need to stand up to these organizations. Courage! WE need to call out to God for Courage. Pray every day for this situation. God hears the prayers of his people.

The people opposed to these chaplains being in schools are more worried about evangelization than they are about kids having access to mental health assistance! I am Christian and I have a Muslim at my workplace. He is an older man who always checks on the other workers to see if anyone is feeling upset or having a bad day. He feels comfortable talking with the non-Muslims and we feel comfortable talking with him, because we are all concerned with each other's well being

But none of these chaplains are required to have any training whatsoever on how to properly counsel these children. How are they gonna help when they literally don’t know how to help these kids.

Public “schools” are on a decline. Unlikely to get any better. What about helping private schools and parents investing in private education. Tax dollars should go where and how parents want their kids to learn.

Secular studies show Christianity increased education, freedom, economy and overall health in any country it went to in history. Unlike any other religion. And further more studies demonstrate that going to church helps with mental health and social issues. As well as prayer is determined as mentally beneficial. And the list can go on. That's why christian apologists do very well in debates.

Christianity doesn't teach a particular economic system though. Freedom came from reforming Christianity not what it taught. Christianity's subject range is limited to Ethics and does educate you more than that. For Example The Bible states that God created the sun after he had already created plant life, but evolutionary ideas counter that plant life came after the sun. A plain reading of Genesis 1-2 yields a chronology that is incompatible with the proposed evolutionary schedule. Even in an old-earth creationist view where a day could refer to an epoch of time, how could plants survive for thousands of years without the sun?

These kids need more support now. This is a great move. The 3 prominent organizations endorsing them (2:06) reflects that there is likely a vetting for experience in chaplain counseling. We are always talking about multiple disciplines working together. Well, here's an opportunity that is safe and supportive for these youth populations in dire straights. So have the chaplains sign a disclosure saying the won't proselytize, and put them to work! Yes!!! 👏👏👏👏 Trauma training, suicide training, what people are facing now training! 🔥

Doesn't bother me though because my daughter will no longer be in a public school period. This last year was the final straw. Children are being mentally rap**. Not only my own child has suffered through it, but so many other children are doing much worse.

Chaplains have their specific faith however, they work on an interfaith basis. Meaning they are to assist those in need as those people want help. It can be faith based or not. They are a great resource and know this there are Chaplains that are Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Catholic, among many other faiths. God bless our Chaplains

I wonder if individuals who want to work as chaplains (replacing a school counselor) in the school realize that certified school counselors do much more than counsel students. School Counselors are specifically trained to intervene in a crisis. They thoroughly understand and comply with the laws about confidentiality and privacy. I understand that some Chaplains may be up for the challenge of counseling in elementary, middle, or high school but I doubt they would want to do all the other administrative tasks that School Counselors must do. Frankly, I wouldn't blame them. Liability: consider the cost of a lawsuit. The urge not to evangelize may be too difficult for some school chaplains who are fervent and might forget about the establishment clause. FYI, God is still with us, everyone.

I'm disappointed in recommending training to deal with 'mental health.' If Jesus is your Savior, then he is all you need. If he puts someone in your path who needs help, he will also give you the right words to say. The only reason I would get training is to be legal. Walk with God and be a blessing.
