She didn't say some one "asking her for a picture" is the problem, she says people acting entitled to a picture with her and then getting upset with her if she says no, is weird, and I agree.
I think she wanted to be notable but never THIS famous. I would feel so stressed out and paranoid if I were in her position, and remember that she's young and not from a famous background. I think we're going to look back on her attitudes to press and parasocialism positively one day.

I do probably have another take than most people about those photographers. I personally worked on red carpets in different countries and those guys are so vile and rude 95% of the time. I always wondered how those celebs regularly let themselves verbally harass like this from them. People always say that certain things come with being a star, but honestly there is completely no reason for culture on the carpet being so derogatory.
They are absolutely not. I don't know what country you're in but these accredited photographers are heavily scrutinized, they are not paparazzi. They're definitely rude and assholes to each other but cannot be to the talent if they ever want to be covering that event again. They are loud which is annoying but sadly comes with the territory.

There’s an actor called Colton Hanes who attended the VMA’s and has for years, and he said this particular photographer has been known to be vile and rude. Not sure why no one has raised an issue and blacklisted him from events.

i just watched the full clip and i feel like it gives more context than the different angle. all the cameras were screaming different directions at her "look left 2nd row, look to the right in the back, keep looking straight" and as she starts to look down and readjust her dress the guy says "IM not gonna stfu " (like someone behind him was telling him to stop directing her) and she snapped her head back to him and said "you stfu" like in the chaos all she heard was "stfu" and just immediately assumed he was talking to her. The comment he made about her publicist sounded more like shock, like "why are you doing this when you have a publicist telling you what does and doesn't look good." and not an "im telling your publicist" kinda way.
I saw it the same way. Seems like she heard someone speaking rudely to a co-worker ABOUT her or his frustration with the situation, and she thought he was speaking to her. Perhaps the photographer was yelling too loud or obnoxious with his requests, and that's why the co-worker asked him to stfu. But when he responded "I won't stfu..." Ms Roan, who was probably frustrated with all the requests and perhaps being commanded in a rude or condescending way decided to lash out and act unprofessional. In my opinion she could have handled it differently, but what do I know? I'm content negotiating terms with my cats for patio time and treats!

To touch on the rudeness of the cameras if you look up "Chappell Roan vmas confrontation full clip" there's a short from Associated Press where you can hear their tones as they ask and it's monotone like a theater manager giving stage directions to the cast (only difference i can hear is they're screaming since there's like 4 or 5 people trying to get her attention)
I think it's also important to remember that artists can also be very tied down contractually behind the scenes and aren't in total control of "their" choices and whether or not they can even speak up about something. Just like you (typically) wouldn't criticize your boss' decisions in front of everyone and your actual boss, artists don't just work for themselves and everything they post online is like speaking in front of everyone at the office. People love to say an artist has a responsibility to their fans but if it's just going to be something that would get you in trouble with work, it's best to not say anything at all for the sake of job security. We are not seeing an authentic, true version of a person, no matter what we like to think. We're seeing a public person who is contractually bound to certain obligations and managed by others.

I imagine myself in that same position, like as a new artist you want to be seen by your peers and to mingle with them, but at the end of the day they're not going to pay your bills and the statements and comments she's being making will put her on a difficult spot with her audience, so the most intelligent strategy would have being to solidify her fan base instead of trying to prove celebrities she is one of them. Maybe ego and some bad managers, they should've seen the VMA's coming and schedule around it.

Let’s be clear about something: it’s very hard to become a famous pop star. Chappell has been working to “make it” for *years*. At first I was sympathetic, but the more that comes out, I think her true colours are showing. cancelling smaller European shows last minute because the VMAs came along tells me everything I need to know about her true intentions, despite her complaints about fame.
imo, cancelling the European shows sucks especially, because in many European countries it’s a BIG DEAL when American pop stars come and perform here. When Taylor Swift came to Germany, one of our cities temporarily renamed itself after her 😭😭 (it’s normally called Gelsenkirchen, we renamed it to Swiftkirchen for the Eras Tour). Us European fans go really crazy for those live shows, because we often don’t have access to things like US exclusive merch (like the stuff at target), US tours, etc
Honestly, same! I was really excited when I discovered her because her music seemed like a breath of fresh air, but she's just becoming a diva at this point. I stopped listening to her altogether because of the tour cancelling - she's more preoccupied with exposure than her fans.

A dozen people were asking her to spin in every direction and her assistants were also speaking to her- she probably didn’t hear that guys full sentence, she hear and expletive and reacted. Paparazzi rudely scream at celebrities to get their attention and demand them to stop, pose and smile and look at them for their shots all the time. They can handle one person shouting back.
I feel like celebrities, don’t understand what fame is.. My sister back in the day, use to follow some of the dude’s from WWE, she found out they would go to this tiny diner right after they were at the garden. She would see them getting food and stuff, and ask them for a picture, they never once said no or were rude to her because she was a fan. All of this fame, comes with a lot of people, wanting to take pictures with a stranger. This was before social media, so they could’ve yelled at her face and be like no, but they never did. I think everyone handles celebrity differently.
To play devil's advocate: I saw Billie Eilish in 2019. The original venue I purchased floor general tickets. They moved the concert to a larger venue and "raffled" anyone who bought general tickets originally to either be placed in the general area in front of the stage or be randomly given a seat in the stands. We were given seat tickets far away. It may not be up to the artist what happens with dates and venues.
I sympathized her for not wanting to deal with random people coming up to her, but she was AT WORK and she CHOSE this line of work KNOWING what it is like. Maybe in the 80s people had less understanding of fame, but it is 2024. She KNOWS what fame entails and she CHOSE that. She CHOSE to go to VMAs. She CHOSE to be rude. She cancelled a tour to do this and that shows she DOESN'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT FANS. She is SOLELY in it for the money, NOT the art like she wants to claim. I now dislike her.

To be clear those are not paparazzi, they're accredited photographers who needed a bunch of permissions to be there. If they're particularly out of line they will not work the event again. But they're working professionals who need to get the shots in an incredibly high stress and fast situations.

IMO, She needs therapy. The amount of paranoia and anxiety one has to have, to blurt out "YOU STFU!" all because you heard it said in a huge crowd? The paparazzi dude was being rude first. He was angry she didn't hit her mark for HIM to be able to get the shot he wanted of HER for HIS paycheck. So he said "stfu, she missed her mark!" and she snapped back. I don't see the problem there. Paps are so effing rude all the time and constantly break celebrities boundaries (not mention endanger their lives i.e. Princess Diana) to get "the perfect shot" so they can get the most money possible. tbf, paparazzi are known to be completely feral, so to some degree I understand not having a lot of decorum with them. They’re not great people a lot of the time. Cancelling and screwing your fans around to promote yourself while claiming not to care about the industry is hipocritical. Girl needs to take some time out and really think through what she wants. I have only visited a few times and it made me want to always stick to the coasts of America where I'm from because the culture makes sense to me and I get yelled at once in a blue moon not everytime I am at Kroger or just walking around.

Tbh regarding the concert tickets, when artists say they’re going on ‘European tours’ it always just ends up being the standard GB, France, Germany and other West European countries, so I get why if someone’s a huge fan and and their country doesn’t have a tour date they’d want to go all out and sacrifice the expenses.

Everyone is so focused on her telling off the pap, but in my opinion, the real issue is her constant disregard for the people buying tickets to her shows. She can skip walking the carpet and photos; many artists and actors do. She and her PR team need to sit down and have a plan before events. Those were most likely press photographers that have press passes and are doing their jobs and not actual paparazzi.

I can’t begin to imagine what it’s like to skyrocket to that level of fame so quickly, or how I’d handle it in her place. But canceling shows for fans to attend an awards ceremony she claims she didn’t even know she was nominated for until the night before? That’s a terrible look, especially for the VMAs of all things. Awards shows used to be understood and appreciated by fans but now they all feel like little more than an industry love-fest where all they do is celebrate one another. I'm genuinely surprised she'd prioritize that over performing for the people who’ve likely supported her for more than a month. Yeah- her music is pretty nice- I am bi & I like being seen by music in that way... BUT... it's funny to me that big, famous creators act like, "I'm just a normal person, treat me like that, la la"... a normal person cannot afford concerts & is struggling to afford food & rent. A normal person does have to consider their professional life everyday & is restricted due to being spyed on by current or future employers. A normal person can struggle to have privacy. A normal person gets photographed & recorded constantly without permission in public. A lot of people live on the streets & have no escape from cameras at all. I did just go on a trip actually. I drove a few hours to join an occupation protest & provide support so that the government doesn't put sewerage into one of our most beautiful & prestine Iwi lakes. Chapelle as a famous & rich person could actually probably stop it happening. A lot of people travel to see family & safe desperately to afford to see people once a decade. If I traveled to another city to see a concert, that would absolutely be once in a lifetime... lucky I'm old enough to know damn well to never do that now, no matter how much I like the artist... because exactly, a person who makes nice music, doesn't make them your friend, doesn't make them a good person, doesn't make them worth supporting or caring about. She is definitely overwhelmed but imo, she is also really selfish & has had a lifetime of privilege...

I did not react well to the energy she was giving in the TikTok at first but as I started to think about it. it was just a body feeling, I could understand logically where she was coming from and as a person who has a heart I could understand emotionally where she was coming from. Like I'm sure people will try to silence her but the reality of the industry and the world is changing. As much as the people in power want to keep it the same, that's not how nature works. She's doing exactly what she needs to do. I connect energy-wise more to Chappelle roan than doja cat, I feel like in my opinion one has more awareness of society than the other. But my opinion doesn't matter both of these women are doing exactly what they need to do for life to change. The universe is pretty smart and regardless of what people are doing they're doing exactly what they need to do. I see these people as people who cause change. Radical erratic uncomfortable out of the norm behavior is what society changes on. She's not really ever going to be silenced. She's supposed to be this chaotic she's supposed to be this uncomfortable she's a human being. And she doesn't deserve to not have compassion. She deserves to be loved just like everybody else. Just want to inform you that they asked her about people's reactions to that tiktok and she actually said everyone's been sweet and supportive. It was never meant for fans, just creeps.
Problem is, she’s not canceling. If she canceled, they could at least refund their tickets. She’s rescheduling, so if those people can’t return their airline tickets or afford new ones to the rescheduled show, they’re out ALL of that money. If she cares about her fans and not just herself, she’d cancel so they could recoup some of what they’ve lost
@@coleworld4385 I believe the only show that wasn’t refunded and was instead rescheduled was the Berlin show and that may have been due to contractual obligations with the venue.
People getting mad at her for canceling festival dates?.... where she is one of 50 acts? The fact that people only like one artist on the festival lineup and yet buy tickets for that festival is kind of a self-own. She didn't cancel the entire festival lmao
I have no idea who she is. But I respect her wanting to place boundaries. And having the type of personality that will "clap back" at people's bullshit. I dont think it will benefit her career though. I think she might be alienating a lot of her fans.
Listen to the voices in the background before she says it. She told a pap to stfu because they said it to her. She didn't "blow up" she matched his energy - why is it nobody is railing the pap for speaking to her that way but everyone jumped on the woman and acted like she's crazy or hysterical. Maybe we need to start calling out the men chasing women and verbally abusing them for not posing the way they want for a photo
She's showing everyone her true colours. She should not speak to anyone lofe that. Hell shes at the VMAs a public place not like they're invading her privacy. She needs to just stop.
I think Chapell would continue performing the way she wants to and creating her art regardless of her level of fame. Like, to everyone’s point she may not stay this popular because she doesn’t put up with the bullshit! That doesn’t change her core fanbase though, and small venues willing to take her. I really wish i could have seen her at my small local venue when she was in town because that’s just my preferred concert setting anyway. Like, i will NEVER pay to see her at a festival because i hate that environment lol If she’s happy and can support herself doing that, i hope she continues! 🤗 Selling out stadiums and topping charts isn’t the end all be all of singing/performing though, ya know? Maybe if Hollywood “rejects” her I’ll get to see her at a smaller setting haha I just always hope she can continue supporting herself!
The photographers complaining that they can't get a photo is not her problem, if she doesn't want to take the picture she doesn't have to. Why is she getting people against her when the photographers are instigating? Most people are used to others people pleasing and that's just not her. Also she struggles with mental health and has stated hers, in which in high stress situations of course she will pop off. She is selling her music not herself as an object.
I've always had a feeling about her... her "drag" seems disingenuous, she comes across as a mean girl to me. Not saying this proves my hunch, but it's also not NOT proving it.

She has seven songs on the billboard and amazing vocal ability as well as breath control. Plus, her stage presence is phenomenal. She’s not going anywhere unless she takes a break by her own choice.
