Chapter 1: Homelessness & mental health
Spreading awareness and addressing Melbourne's homelessness & mental health problems. Human beings in rough circumstances sleeping on the streets. The number one reason for homelessness is family & domestic violence, people are experiencing mental health conditions while being homeless and had mental health conditions prior, but statistically more mental health conditions following homelessness. Being in such conditions increase the chances of forming bad habits like begging people for money, & or forming drug addictions. Statistics state drug addiction is not the cause of homelessness, but rather the cause following homelessness. Drugs being in close proximity and easily available in Melbourne, make it hard for someone experiencing homelessness. A minority use drugs as a means to cope, even more so if they had addictions before homelessness. Not everyone who is homeless is on drugs, Family's, children, people just like you and I, are experiencing homelessness daily, every race, religious background, age or colour of your skin, homelessness does not discriminate. This is my first attempt trying to help people and educating the youth, to get a better understanding of the human condition experiencing these problems, in Melbourne.
I chose to start with mental health & homelessness as chapter 1, first to spread awareness so people can help others experiencing a crisis in their lives right now.
If you see someone begging on the streets today or tomorrow, stop and ask them ,"RUOK." U.V.M is trying to get in contact with organisations and or services that are under funded to help where we can. We hope to create something in the future that can be funded to help someone sleeping rough. Things like this take time to do, but that's the goal for Chapter 1.
If you want to donate to the homeless now, go on the internet and search "donate to homeless services in Victoria". It's important to find the right organisations and services who are underfunded, needing the funds to reach & help more people, U.V.M will also be exploring and documenting other topics being other chapters in a series, whether it be woman's & men's mental health, addressing issues of homelessness, hardcore drug addiction, addictions, sex-work, family & domestic violence, abuse, trauma, suicide prevention, crime, prison, death & deaths by misadventure, what lead people there and everything in-between. lets listen to these unheard voices, help others share their stories, addressing these sensitive topics & educate people while doing so. I hope this makes a positive impact on people, giving everyone a deeper understanding. These matters do not discriminate.
Regards
U.V.M

Thankyou. I was almost made homeless. Had to make a harsh decision to avoid it. I don't live in an ideal situation but I have to carry on for my child. This is so close to my heart, I feel so deeply for each of these people. You can't be on the streets without being anxious and have panic attacks. That's in addition to any underlying mental health issues.

We also have this huge problem with mental illness and homeless people here in Canada. Where does all the tax money go? Nothing is ever achieved. I think we should look into that aspect.

You're right ,where are they going to go? Initiatives are being made, so people can donate to organisations or foundations to get better funding and can help a lot more people, I'm trying to connect with the right people and organisations to get started, so we don't have people especially the youth, homeless on the streets. I think it's crucial as the channel grows, it has only been around since December, hopefully I can get it all done really soon and make a real positive impact on people experiencing a crisis in their lives.

Not all homeless people are addicted to drugs and alcohol you mention mental health anyone these days caught up in the rental increases and lack of housing it's a certainty that you will have depression and anxiety to different degrees from person to person depending on how bad their situation situation

People have to stop the stigmas associated with homelessness. Correct. Number one cause of homelessness is family and domestic violence
@derek5168
@derek5168 Год назад
@UnheardVoicesMelbourne your right about stigmas but shouldn't that just be replaced by the word ignorance because some who use the word stigma don't even know what it means they just use that word to sound like they know what they are talking about

@UnheardVoicesMelbourne I personally have experienced it myself and the word alienated is so true you feel like an alien even though I knew there are some kind people serving free food like the hare Krishna temple in Albert Park the terrible narcissistic types in the community will go out of their way to crush your spirit which is disgusting and a form of mental violence I saw at launch housing in St kilda a male worker tell a poor desperate woman who had some kind of mental illness (not making a diagnosis)and physically ill because homelessness had taken a toll he said in a supposed polite way but had a cynical smile on his face sorry we can't help you she begged again and same couldn't care less response no there's nothing we can do didn't even suggest alternatives beyond what launch housing could actually do for her like suggest other homeless organisations or even where to get something to eat
