@@Oxide_does_his_best The rounds I'm thinking about, such as Libra Snail, DAG, etc, are mildly difficult to obtain. Not to mention CONUS they'd be illegal...
Seriously considering becoming a patron to fund this ballistic endeavor. Saw Edvin sarkissan shoot a replica thinking it was the real deal and that shit made me mad.
Color me extremely jealous as a body armor collector, enthusiast, and aspiring developer. My limited income prevents me from being able to acquire one of these beauties.
literally. lol Honestly it amazes me how slow it was for armor to make its way to LE like SWAT and military like SOF. For SOF I get that their priority is planning so they won't have to ever truly risk themselves, but a little protection can go a long way in avoiding a lifetime of surgeries. Like IMO I think high cut helmets while comfortable, are really silly because you take away a huge portion of your frag protection.
Oxide-it's really interesting to see you making a Tig/altyn history video, as I was actually writing a short essay on the same subject-though, frustratingly, you've made my work pointless! I don't know if you or jk are interested in finding more helpers, writers, and researchers, but if you are, I would love to be a part of your work.
@@Hazztech i don't care. I always see people like you comment, always claiming that you were working on something that someone else posts, all your doing is begging for attention. @@flagovhate good thing I didn't imply that they did. You've got a serious insecurity complex there if you think words of support are words of control.
I was not expecting this to cover as far back as Afghan! Really happy about that. The 1970/80 KGB teams were really cool, BZT-75s, ZhZT-71s and Psh-77s all dayyy!
Snuck one of these onto my cutter last year when I was in the coast guard..loved being on a MG wearing it while my friends did boarding, most people just kinda laughed some kinda looked scared asf😂. Captain didn’t like it either lol
What i love about this Chanelle is that they dig upp history that ewerybody knows but doesn't know. The fact about storming of palace in Afghanistan is one of "known" facts that few know. A fun fact that i dont know if it's tru is than the guards had MP5s that couldn't penetrait hard or soft armor of the soviets. Ofc it depends on the ammo and so on...
Bought mine for a steal in December. It's missing the comset, and the visor mounts are broken free from the visor but I love my Altyn nonetheless. Thanks for the awesome vid, very informative!
I love my Altyn idk just something about the design I really like about it. Only issue is inside cord is cut and mic is missing a part. Some repairs I probably could get the coms working.
Fuck dude, 3.8kg sounds like pure misery. Can’t believe how far tech has come, nowadays some soldiers are equipped with the ECH which only weighs 3 pounds but can stop 5.56 ball and even 7.62 nato ball under the right circumstances
With all due respect sir, may I ask you for your permission to translate and port this video and Chapter 2 to bilibili(www.bilibili.com/)? I am really tired of everyone talking about "pubg level III helmet" on the internet... If you are interested I could also send you the translated scripts via e-mail.
@@luckyfrost722 but they probably get in the way less than a visor would. You could also leave one out on whatever side you shoulder your weapon on. I could see the visor on an altyn working well if it didn't block the cheek area.
Altyn also means Gold in kazakh and tatar languages. Kazakhstan at that time being one of the USSR republics and tatars being one of most numerous ethnicities in the USSR.
Pretty well researched, new guys could really use more of these educational videos, they are easier to find and digest than years old threads in some abandoned forum. Though i must critique the use of a visor in open woodlands, considering that this is an educational video after all. Should reserve it for urban environments. And where is your upper handguard?
@@capn4553 Yes i do, though I'm aware that isn't something everybody does. Doesn't matter anyway. The visor is for breaching buildings and such, only supposed to be worn for short periods of time due to the helmets extreme weight that can literally break your neck, and will certainly cause damage even if used correctly for too long. Displaying footage of it mounted all the time can give unaware people the wrong impression and make them hurt themselves on top of spreading this myth that the visor is always worn.
@@hohtari1 Different account, same dude. Agreed and reasonable critique in that it gives off the wrong impression and that visored helmets can cause spinal compression and nerve damage which is why you see most photos of dudes in non-urban environments wearing the helmet without the visor, but Oxide does a pretty good job of pointing out that the helmet is a heavy, unbalanced mess with the visor on it. Wearing any type of helmet on your head for extended periods will cause neck damage as even people who have worn ACHs and other lighter weight helmets on deployment come back with neck issues, it's a "risk" everyone takes when they wear any type of PPE for their hobbies and/or jobs. I don't think it really spreads the myth the visor was always worn, but that's just me. He uses a ton of photos of people wearing the helmets without the visor and also talks about the purpose of the face shield to breach buildings.
Upper handgaurd was taken off to make room for a b19. You'll see it in the proper ak74 video. As for telling me I shouldn't wear the visor in the context of an educational video... shut the fuck up
@@Oxide_does_his_best Jesus, relax. I didn't tell you what to do, I just left my opinion, which is what comments are for. If you think its trash then just ignore it.
Great video! Hey, if you find out what grade of titanium they use, you would probably be able to purchase the same grade and have someone shape it for you. That way we don't take any beautiful Altyns out of this cruel world.
When you say all handgun rounds does this include more esoteric rounds such as 5.7 x 28 SS190 and 4.6, as well as 9x21 Gyruza and the new Grau Index 7N31 9x19 handgun rounds?
I understand that you are mainly viewing the Altyn family of helmets but as they all are basically most of the russian counter terror helmets i ask if you could review one russian anti terror helmet not from the altyn family, a helmet that was souly designed in russia with no influence of any other helmet, the russian sfera helmets the Stsh 81 and the Sssh 94. They are a very cool design that you don't really see anywhere with 4 (technically 5 but what ever) titanium/armored steel plates hold together the helmet cover. I personally own one so i am interested in the history of it as well.
I think the indian military took some inspiration from that helmet or it could be coincidence, but they have a helmet that looks like a hat but has a plate on the inside of the cloth that can make it bulletproof up to a 7.62x39 supposedly
@@thegalapagos57 I'm guessing that you mean the Patka helmet? These kind-of look like the helmets that Star Wars rebels are wearing during their attack on the shield generator on Endor's Moon
I can see that helmet being good for open top vehicle gunners or the first few dudes in the room with added prection from breaching charges, but otherwise they look neat but visibility and reaction time will save you more effectively than a ballistic helmet.
@@michelwijnand sup Michel. That's why I said the altyn's progeny. Chapter two will talk about all the specific variants of altyn family. Have any images of Czech and Hungarian use? Also, how many impressions have you done? Must be in triple digits by now!

If I'm to be honest, purchasing some titanium plates of matching thickness would likely be cheaper and faster to obtain than purchasing various helmets to test on. It's likely you could get whoever your buying frm to also bend a number of plates for you to test deflection more effectively. Also, if Steel was used instead of Titanium, what would be the type and thickness of steel needed to match the protection? Hardened? Tempered? Grey-Cast? Each one has their own draw backs, hardened obviously is a very hard steel and will rarely dent, but it often spalls on the other side from impacts if it doesn't outright shatter. Tempered steel dents and deforms from impacts but often returns to it's original shape in blades, in armor it may dent but will rarely spall. Cast would have the issue of impurities in the cast leading to structural weakness if done improperly. Air cavities could cause metal fatigue to become present much sooner than it should.
Interesting how Altin was named afterr a Renaissance era currency, since "Altin" is Turkish for gold. Makes sense. I know because my Yellow Lab is named Altin, owing to his yellow hue and golden disposition.
Just wondering, what is the specific model of the "Angstrom" radio? Also, are only the 19 pin helmets "Afghan kosher?" Mine is a 7-pin, and I'm wondering if I can even use the right radio for impressions.
