This video explains the formation of ester bonds between fatty acids and alcohol to make lipids. The video shows how triglycerides are formed by the addition of three fatty acid chains to glycerol and also explains the arrangement and functions of phospholipids in the cell membrane. There are a few seconds where the video shows an interesting fact about cholesterol. Did you know that cholesterol production is increased due to our consumption of inflammatory foods? :)
Watch this video for the second section of the second chapter of the AS Biology syllabus. It is perfect for revision or to just reinforce your understanding of Biological Molecules. Take it as a Lipids crash course :)

What did you mean what you said that a hydrophilic molecule/compound won't succeed if it tries to pass through the hydrophobic tails? What would happen to them? Do they just get stuck there or are they sent back out?
@biowithdrdemi
@biowithdrdemi 2 года назад
They can't pass through. It's like trying to mix water and oil.

At 14:51, the fatty acid tails are hydrophobic and non-polar and the phosphate head is polar and hydrophilic

Hi Dr. Thank you for this lesson, I really enjoyed this lesson. Pls I want to ask if they is chemistry and physics for As and A level also. Because am currently doing A Level Programme .....Thanks.

along with biology, there's Chem, Physics and even maths for AS LEVEL. Im pursuing these 4 subjects for my AS LEVEL and will try to carry all of 'em till A-LEVELS

14:48 its written that fatty acid tails are polar and phosphate head is non polar shouldn't it be other way around?

hey, there is an error. the phosphate head should be polar and fatty acid chains should be non-polar
