Get Tickets to SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS www.broadway.com/shows/sponge... Watch stage stalwart Gavin Lee get into character (and extra legs!) as Squidward Q. Tentacles in the new musical SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS.
TheRastaRican 2001 what's even better is that you can consider it part of Gavin's character study for Squidward, since Squidward would definitely put up fanart of himself if he had any
@@FreakinSweet1987 The creators of the show wanted the actors to act, look, and sound recognizable but not exact. Spongebob doesnt laugh the same way for example, he chuckles in the show. Squidward keeps the nasally quality but not necessarily the rest. I wish they kept Patrick’s vowel pronunciation though because they didn’t and its important for the character. They actually start out doing more of an impression and then go into their “normal” registers as the show progressed
My family always jokingly called me squidward. I never gave it much thought until one day it hit me: I’m grouchy, I play the clarinet, I draw and paint, I enjoy performing but I have poor social skills. It was a sad, introspective day.
Oh well to me that's completely fine if you are very Squidward cause I love that guy :) I dunno as a kid sometimes you hated him sometimes you felt bad for him sometimes you liked him. But I understand him a bit better now I guess and there are worse things to be than Squidward out there :3
At the end of the day the man wanted friends and be accepted. And truly he was accepted (despite his claims), it's just that he's an introverted in a world of extraverted people.
C'mon, everyone - let's all pray that it comes back to Broadway with all the original cast ASAP!!! Edit: in the mean-time, let's go see the North American tour; they have an amazing cast, too!!
WAIT. HE IS HOW OLD? 46?! WHAT. REALLY???? I honestly would have guessed he was at least a decade younger than that. Now I am even more impressed by that extensive dance number.
C'mon, everyone - let's all pray that the original cast comes back to Broadway to perform this again ASAP!!!!!!!! Edit: in the mean-time, let's go see the North American tour - they have an amazing cast, too!
Gavin Lee is such a great guy. I met him at stage door a couple years ago with my brother and mom. My brother said " I actually play the clarinet." and Gavin just laughed and said "well I can play three notes"
My two main reactions to this video: 1. "I have 3 kids now-" Me, previously unaware: Awww... ❤❤ 2. "I nearly die at the end of my number, and need an oxygen tank." Me: I REALLY HOPE YOU'RE NOT BEING SERIOUS RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!
crying because it’s closing tomorrow... “if spongebob wants to be here in 5 years I’ll still be there putting on my legs” THANK GOD IM GOING TO THE SHOW TOMORROW
Its been three months since i saw the TV special on Nick. I have been meaning to watch this. Gavin Lee was a scene stealer as Squidwird. Especially with I'm Not A Loser! Those tap dance shoes are amazing. If only Iron Man took Pepper on a date to see the show before the events of Infinity War.
I adore you, Gavin! Really you're doing an amazing work on such an interesting and loved character, it's truly amazing. I just wish I could see the show dammit
I love Gavin Lee!!! Mary Poppins was the reason why I started theater!!! If you have not heard him as Bert, then you had better go listen to the soundtrack right now or else!
Once in costume I realized I was about to miss a number and that was the day I learned that the fastest way to go down stairs quietly is two at a time backwards
I met Gavin Lee back in February of 2010. He was playing Bert in the touring company of Mary Poppins. He was really cool. But I have to agree a bit about what he said about Squidward. Sometimes people can be grouchy and they just wanna do their own things before they see or speak to anyone. I’m like Squidward sometimes. Sometimes I can be grouchy and sarcastic
Gavin’s so admirable. “If Spongebob wants to still be here in five years and they’ll have me, I’ll still be putting those legs on every night.” That’s just so inspiring and admirable
stuff like this just....it leaves me breathless being on stage is a way to express your anger your sadness joy fear and confidence its a whole new you some days you have this rough patch where you feel alone and that's good for a character development in acting for film and animation they have the similarities of it as well. Broadway has it's perks from what I see in the Spongebob live the emotions you see can make you relate to them especially Squidward and Gavin Lee has done an AMAZING work as Squidward wish I had got to actually see them live instead of on TV but still watching the whole live event was just beautiful and one of the best live plays I have seen so far.
Well...if you can't see the original Broadway cast perform this, maybe you could see the SpongeBob musical on its North American tour - I'd say the North American tour cast are on par with the original Broadway cast!
I wanna come see broadway, but I live in Houston, Texas. I’ve been watching these kind of videos for a couple of months, and now feel in LOVE with Ethan and lee. Their amazing and so nice!
There's a tour all over North America in 2019/20 (with a different cast, tho), so you could look up the show's website and see if it's coming to Texas (I saw them in Toronto a few days ago and it was FABULOUS!!!!!!!!) Edit: I looked up the website, and the North American tour has 5 dates in Texas, Houston included!!
this whole cast just seems so fun and amazing, i love the soundtrack for the show and i love watching the behind the scenes clips that get uploaded on here. gavin is a really great live-action squidward!!
I saw this show last night and Squidward got a big round of applause when he first appeared onstage! I didn't see the original Broadway cast, since this was the North American tour, but they were still really great - almost identical to the original cast!
Squidward is miserable and talentless. But he’s so relatable and quite frankly a savage XDXDXD I have concluded that over rewatching all 11 seasons over 6 months. I had last watched the show when I was like 4 so ...
I've been a fan of Mr. Lee ever since I first heard him on the "Mary Poppins" OBC recording, where he played a TERRIFIC Bert! When I first saw a clip of him performing "I'm Not A Loser" a few months ago (back before Broadway Preview week), I squealed, "That's Bert from Mary Poppins! Oh-My-Word!" I later commented the same thing on one of Mr. Lee's Instagram posts, and he liked it before (I get excited just thinking about this) he FOLLOWED me!
I really hope Broadway.com keeps doing these character studies they are such great videos and insight into different characters and actors on Broadway. Please upload more soon 😊
