Hi Lili. Your pine tea will be better if you boil the water first, then add your needles and let steep for about 5 minutes.
@CBGMaker
@CBGMaker 9 лет назад
Also chopping the needles into small pieces helps. I like to add honey.
@MaZEEZaM
@MaZEEZaM 9 лет назад
Di Dxpeo perhaps taste wise it would but otherwise as long as its boiled it wouldn't matter.
@CBGMaker
@CBGMaker 9 лет назад
Di Dxpeo Hi, I mean no disrespect, but staphylococcus aureus will die in water that is 63 degrees C or 145 degrees F for 20 min. Because water boils at 100 degrees C or 212 degrees F it kills staphylococcus aureus in just the timw it takes to bring the water to a boil. I would suggest not drinking stagnant water unless there is no other option. Then I would boil it, (rolling boil) for as long as 2 minutes just to make sure. Boiling water does not remove chemicals.
@CBGMaker
@CBGMaker 9 лет назад
Di Dxpeo Not a problem bro. I've been doing dirt time, and practicing bushcraft over 20 years. I'm 52. But certain aspects of these fields we learn get hard to remember as time passes. I have learned so much about trees, and plants, but its my worst subject. I cant seem to retain it much. On the subject of trees and plants, it's like my brain is a bucket, and knowledge is water' but my bucket has a small hole in the bottom. I must continue to pour knowledge into my bucket, or it will drain dry. I like videos, and comments that make me think, and research. I guess I'm just a bucket head.

Good job leaving the fungus on tree till cleaned. I don't use flint and steel though, I use my knife as the steel, and any rock that throws a spark as flint. The way you use the tin to hold the char, and spark down into it is also how I do it.

I prepped amadou last fall, using the boiling in birch ash, beating to "tenderize" it, method. Wasn't overly impressed with the results, even using a fire steel. Being the bushcraft hoarder type that I am ... I still have it all. Will try charring it and see how that goes. I figure it should rock with all the special prep work it's already endured! Thanks for the tip re: charring it.

I am up in the mountains and normally we have a couple of meters at this time and at present moment we have almost none, its been raining combined with temperatures between 5c - 9c every day for the month of February the snow is almost all gone. I am at the 700 meter range on the mountain.

Excellent video Lily. I think the process of carbonizing organic material without oxygen is called pyrolysis. I didn't know that water in the material would make a difference though. Good information, I would have thought that the heat would just drive off the water in the process and not make a difference... so I learned something here... Thanks!

It will dry in the tin as you char it. but it will take longer. 15-20 minutes normally its done, but only if it was dry to start off with. Also keep in mind that you cant over char anything, (over cook it). I have left tins in the fire all night (forgot) and in the morning the char was still char, and works great.

It is good that you allowed the tree to hold the hs fungus. There are so many accidents in the bush with both the axe and the knife. One slip and you can get a nasty cut, or even lose a finger. Your skill also enhances the idea of cutting away from yourself as illustrated. Thanks for sharing another "liked" collection of vids. Jb.
