NOTE: Remember that you can basically use almost ANY brand of USB power bank or adapter to charge your camera's batteries. You do not need to only purchase the Fujifilm-recommended Anker brand (PowerCore 26800). And if you are shooting nothing but stills, then consider that having USB-C PD (Power Delivery) would not be as important. However, if you want to fully POWER your camera and be able to shoot continuously 4K 60fps video, w/o worrying about draining the internal battery, you do need the higher power delivery USB chargers/adapters, regardless of brand. If you have any model or brand suggestions that work for you, feel free to mention them below in the comments.

Great video as usual. An fyi for X-H1 owners, I use a Ravpower 26800 powerbank that powers the camera, connected with a micro-b usb to usb-c cable, with great success. That powerbank also has two usb-a ports, so I can power the camera and a dew heater for my lens while doing long astro sessions in colder temps. As a test of the duration, I shot over 5000 images via the interval timer over about 10 hours, with the dew heater connected. The powerbank still had 2 out of 5 charge indicators at the end of it.

What about xt4 dummy batteries? I want to use my xt4 without the battery. I was waiting for this video for almost a year and i really would like to know about xt4 power option without having a batttery inside. No typec AC adaptor that i tried could power it just by AC outlet. Is this possible?

I have a 2-foot right-angle USB-C cable that I zip-tied to around half of my camera strap. With the cable in the camera you barely notice it's there because it follows the strap exactly until it gets to my shoulder area. After that, it optionally gets plugged into a USB-C extension cable that is coming out of my camera bag or backpack, and that's where the power bank is. It's lightweight, convenient, tangle-free, and I can shoot all day. Basically it's charging the whole time it's hanging around my neck while I'm moving locations, and I don't notice the cable because it's essentially part of the strap. Just make sure you get the right angle USB cable or it sticks out a little far for comfort and you could break it off.

6:48 not sure if someone else already pointed this out, but this isn't true for the X-T4. With that camera & battery grip, you can charge all 3 batteries in the camera via USB-C! I've done it myself and it's pretty handy not needing a separate charger.

I got the grip for my X-T3 even though I grumbled about it seeming overpriced, then discovered that it came with the AC adapter that some other camera manufacturers would have charged separately for. So there it was, Fuji over-delivering again! Personally I like the ergonomics of the grip with a heavier lens, or if I know I'll be shooting a lot in portrait orientation. I've been using that Anker power bank for over a year now and it's great for all day shooting, just heavy. I keep it in my backpack with the cable poking out to the camera while I'm shooting video on a gimbal. I tried mounting the power bank on the rig, but the added weight is just too much when already holding a gimbal. I think Anker has some smaller ones now that also do PD.

I LOVE your videos, Chris and have learned a lot by watching them. That said, I think this one covers too much information too quickly! For example, you gave a strong warning about the risk of using some dummy batteries and AC power adapters without either naming a single brand that is unsafe to use or a SPECIFIC recommendation for one that is SAFE TO USE.

Hi Chris, thank you for the outstanding and informative video. As always great source of inspiration! I would like to ask you a question … For months I have been annoyed by a problem with my X-T3 (about 2 years old) to which I cannot really find any solutions, even on the web. Using a dummy battery to power the cam for a longer time (for video streams) leads to a drained internal battery. The configuration is cleared and starting up the cam again after powering off results in a default setup scenario. In particular, if the camera is stored afterwards without a (np-w126) battery in its battery compartment for quite some time. Trying to "revive" the internal battery (I suppose there is one) by charging the whole camera (with the np-w126 inserted) using an appropriate usb charger, does sometimes help for a short period. After a certain time (sometimes only a few hours) the saved configuration is lost again as soon as you switch the cam off and on again. Do you have any experience with this problem by yourself? Can't find any viable solutions on the internet. Also, I have not yet received any responses about this from Fujifilm support! Maybe some "swarm knowledge" here could help me finding a solution. Thanks a bunch!

Excellent topic and one I was hoping would be discussed. I have noticed that the Fuji X-T30 behaves similarly. However, since the time of X-T30 firmware 1.40 release, certain USB adapters *will not* charge the battery through the USB port on the camera, but the same USB adapter will work with an external battery charger. I further found that the Apple 5 W adapter will charge the battery through the USB port, but its 12 W adapter does not. Upon review of the USB charger specs, the 5 W adapter delivers 5 V @ 1 A whereas the 12 W adapter delivers 5.2 V @ 2.4 A. Note there is a 200 mV difference in the loaded voltage between adapters. This leads me to wonder if the firmware release 1.40 restricts over voltage on the power regulator in the X-T30. I wish to ask Fuji if this is one of the “minor bug fixes” in their recent FW release.

I'd be curious to know what a decent PD USB Powerbank would be recommended for a portable rig set up. Something that is small, compact, not too heavy, a good compromise basically but still gets the job done.

Just got my first ever Fuji camera (XT-4) and the extra battery charger and something is definitely not right; but I can't tell if it's the battery charger, the XT-4 cable, or the XT-4 wall adapter charger. At least your video reassures me that it is OK to get another cable and wall charger so long as they are good brands and supportive of power delivery. I was worried something might go wrong if I used anything except the 5v 3a 20watt suggested in the manual. At this point I've also got a third party external battery charger, which seems to work perfectly (unlike the Fuji version). Just wish I could understand what was going wrong with what. But anyway at least I can go ahead and take some pictures now.

NB! There are actually two (2!) types of original Fujifilm NP-W126 batteries. With exactly the same form factor! The older NP-W126 and the newer, more powerful NP-W126S. For easy identification, the older is marked with an orange square and the newer with an orange circle. When I use the older version (that I got with my X-E2) in my X-T3, I get a warning at startup and in use the camera is not as responsive. As an example the viewfinder gets laggy and virtually useless in scenarios like motor sports. I even think some high performance functions are disabled. I assume the same may be true when using (some?) third party batteries.

Hi Chris, I've got a question. I've been looking for a way to charge my X-T4 while connected to my laptop with the USB-C cable. I use it as my webcam during lectures and workshops and enjoy the ease of the Fuji webcam software because it allows me to adjust the lighting when it gets dark outside. As far as I'm aware I'm not able to do that when using the HDMI port, so I'm kind of stuck to the USB-C port to connect it to my computer. However, it still drains the battery, even with the USB power supply setting turned on. I reckon the vertical grip would do a lot, just by adding more batteries. But it's quite expensive. (Aside: my camera is already a bit too high on the tripod and this will add more height again.) I've not found dummy batteries for the X-T4 that I trust to work properly. So I'm a bit stuck. Do you have advice on how to get around this issue? Thanks for the great channel, it helped me a lot already!

Very useful, thank you. My local camera store said that I needed to buy a dummy battery *and a "(Tether Tools Case Relay) Camera Power System"* as well as a power bank to provide continuous power to my X-T2. I didn't go ahead because of the cost and complexity. But you say that it's possible to connect the power bank directly to the dummy battery, which would be a simpler, cheaper solution. But I guess the choice of dummy battery is critical...

Sorry for my English;) Credits to the Google translator. The video is incredibly comprehensive. Good luck we have the Fuji community with you. I bought a 10000mH PD Anker brand powerbank and it works fine. It is small and I can carry it on top of the camera. For a long shoot it may not be enough. It is true that it does not appear among those recommended by Fuji although I think I have seen it in your video. In Europe we can buy batteries from the Patona brand with a duration very similar to Fuji. Especially the Platinum model. It is true that over time they swell but if you buy from Amazon they give you new units. I really am very scared of the matter. With the Patona battery pack that I mentioned earlier, they delivered a charger for two batteries. Well, with that charger the batteries take a long time to charge and I don't know if that's good. I am also afraid of tethering with the camera when connecting a computer. I guess nothing's wrong but I can't help thinking about it.
@JimSykes

FYI for those considering a dummy battery. There is a small rubber pop-out plug on the battery door that provides an exit point for the dummy battery cable while allowing the battery door to be closed. I've seen some users who are unaware of it and leave the battery door open on their camera when using a dummy battery.

Thank you for explaining all these options. Well done. I got one question regarding power supply (X-T3/T4). Let's assume the camera has a dummy battery but no power source is attached, the camera tether mode is set to fixed and it is set to ON. If now the dummy is connected to a power source does it start up and initiate USB connection automatically? Fujifilm Support told me it would stay in standby mode. Is that correct? Best wishes.

I use the battery grip when shooting video on my X-T3 but have to use the larger cage. I’m thinking of going to a small cage and just fix a power bank to it. I do like the ergonomics of the grip but don’t like the added size of the larger cage. One worry about using the power bank is the usb-c port isn’t reliable, many users have have their port damaged or just wares out from constant use

Thanks for this instructive review. Personally, I prefer to charge my batteries outside the camera with the charger ( i have 3 batteries without the grip) . Charging the batteries via USB-C scares me even using the recommanded Anker Power Bank... You never know, a voltage surges can happen and jump the card into your camera. Does the USB PD Power Bank charge the battery in camera any faster/slower than the Fuji charger that we plug into the wall socket?

Hi Chris, good stuff.. I just bought an Anton battery dtap power supply, but had to by the Dtap dummy battery separatly.. It says on the Dtap cord, output 7.4volts, and the dummy battery saysits for NP-W235, I feel nerviuos to put it in my camera, does the camera take 7.4v or would the dummy battery nock that back to 5 volts..?

I would like to see a video about using D-tap with X-T4 cameras! Thought it was not an option so I bought the anker power bank which works fine as well but isn't as easy (and stylish) to put on a rig.

Could you tell me what the wall mount thing is at 0:45? The silver plate with plastic trays, it looks really useful, and we're really short of space in the camera room at the office.

I have a question regarding powering an XT2 with the Anker PB. I haven't found a cable that will actually power the camera. I tried the link you provided but no luck. Is this possible? Thank you.

Have you heard of any way to power the XT4 with Sony NPF batteries? Andycine has a NPF battery plate with a USB-C PD connection coming out soon -- it claims to be rated for 5V, 2.6A or 9V, 2A in the PD port. I shoot video (including 30-40min interviews) and am looking for a way to supply power for continuous 4k/24fps takes using NPF batteries while also not destroying the camera. Thanks, Zach

Ola. Preciso da sua ajuda. Atualizei o Premiere 2022 e não roda arquivos de video HVEC da Fuji XT3. Arquivos de vídeo HVEC rodam sem problemas. Pode me ajudar ?

Im using a Samsung PD USB charger that works like a charm to keep the camara on forever when using it as a streaming device. And an Anker PD powerbank when on the move. (X-T3)

Short question: Did you ever use a Smallrig VB-V-mount battery to power your Rig? I am just figuring out how to connect camera (X-H2S) AND Atomos monitor to a Smallrig VB50 battery. I do have a "dummy battery to USB-C" cable and an Atomos "DC-to USB-A" cable. Unfortunately, it's not working with those two. I guess, the Atomos should/could be powered with a "D-TAP to Atomos DC" cable. The camera should be fine with a "W235-dummy to DC" cable (which I would power via the 8V port of the VB50 battery. ... Any thoughts ?

I had a massive problem with third party batteries while Tethering!😓😓 the battery fried, it wont charge again and I think it fried my battery charger too when I tried to charge it! I was a strong believer of third party batteries, but after that ... not anymore, I think even my camera got some damage😓 Thank you for this video! It was awesome!
