My T120 developed a charging fault which I noticed when I turned my lights on and the motor cut out.
It was charging just about enough to keep the battery ok with just the ignition on and no lights.
As I don't usually ride with my lights on I son't know how long I have had the problem, though the last time (weeks ago) I had the lights on it wad ok.
Anyway here is a series of vids tracing and repairing the problem, enjoy.

Good stuff mate, I am working on bikes 25 years, 20 of those on old Triumphs, its interesting to see the way you do things, Some of your short cuts are really good, has me thinking, why did I not think of that !

Thought that was a B31 or 33, my mate is to BSA what you are to Triumph. Not that he is solely a BSA man he has Bonnies too just he prefers BSA, Especially Goldies, One of his is kept on a plynth in his sitting room !!! (Im)patiently waiting for part 2 here and part 3 in Wales lol, Dave

lunmad Hi J, How about making a vid of doing the Beeza? It would make a change and might help BSA riders as you help Triumph riders. Cheers mate ride safe. Dave.

You can't test a zener with a multi-meter unless it has a diode tester. Basically zener allows current flow in one direction but not in the opposite direction until you exceed it's reverse bias limit; it's a very crude regulator that designed to break down electrically at a certain voltage- typically 13.8 volts. . Alternator wires should be tested on AC range ( 20volts) but with one probe on one of the wires and the other on the frame. Good alternator will provide about 18 volts AC on each wire if good.

Hi Frank :-) again good advice, you can tell if a zenner is working as a diode, but not see its charging rate without a couple of batteries.

Weak charge is classic broken wire from alternator scenario or one side of rectifier fried. Totally fried rectifier or alternator means no charge at all but good rectifier and alternator should give about 13.6 to 14.5 volts at 2500 rpm. The absolute quickest way to check is to briefly and very lightly dab each alternator wire to frame and it should give a tiny spark or put a light bulb between wire and frame.

Hi Frank :-) good advice as a quick check a flash of the alternator wires works a treat.

Hello "lunmad" I used to live in the Teesside area. Where do you live ? I knew lots of motor cyclists and probably all the motor cycle shops.... Armstrongs, Frank Reynolds, Robsons , Cowies and Dave Larry etc. I would like to hear from you. I still have some Meridian Triumphs including a Bonneville. Yours Doug.

OH!!!!!!!! I can not be the only one that noticed the other bike in the garage. What is that one? Looks early, like a big badge early 60s model.
